About William V. Glastris, Jr.
We are a family of five from the Chicago area who first came to Nicaragua for the wedding of a close family friend. We really love to travel and have enjoyed seeing a lot of great spots on earth together. We are extremely active so our new home at the beach in Redonda Bay is perfect for us. We can completely relax while at the same time know that between surfing, fishing, yoga and the fun tourism in the area (zip line tours, colonial Granada, Masaya markets, snorkeling etc.) there is plenty to keep us and our guests occupied. Our guests love it and that makes it really fun.

Why William V. Glastris, Jr. chose Rivas Department
We were introduced to the development by a close family friend who is a relative of the developer. When we experienced the natural beauty of the coastline, the incredibly authentic atmosphere of Gigante and the surrounding area and the great vibe that the local people and the intrepid American, Canadian and European neighbors created we were hooked. Its a truly unique place, a great value and a great family vacation spot that we can enjoy for a long time.
What makes this House unique
Our home is situated on a unique spot with a cliff on one side and the 24 hour Pacific-surf-on- the-rocks show just below us. We have an easy walk down to the private beach (restaurant, yoga etc.)and get the ocean breezes all day without the occasionally strong winds that occur above. Our house was built for large groups, family reunions and multi-family vacations with plenty of room for everyone to be together or spread out on three levels with everyone enjoying the view.

Beautiful Home and Wonderful Experience
This was a great home, perhaps the nicest home of all the places we have stayed in Nicaragua. The staff was great and very helpful. The house had lots of space, the kids room was a huge plus. Each room had its own bathroom which was a nice amenity. The pool was very nice and well kept! The kitchen was great and fully stocked with the needed pots and pans. Also the cost included everything, there was no hidden electrical fees and purified water was include. There was also a breeze 24 hours a day so opening up the house was awesome. The house had amazing views but the time of year (January) we were there you actually could not see the sun setting because of the amazing cliffs, one trade for another but worth mentioning. Also the beach is more than i would consider a "short walk". There and back is over half a mile according to the health app on our phones on a pretty steep path. The house sits on a cliff and you must get to the beach at sea level so it makes sense and the walk is beautiful but not our definition of short so just be prepared, if you forget something most wouldn't just run back to grab it. The house sits on Redonda Bay which has a resort on site so there is access to food, kayak and paddle boards. This means there are more tourists / gringos... which means many speak English and you have the amenities which come with tourism available... if however you are like us an often travel more local, like to walk to local puleperrias and local towns that is not really an option here. The beach and bay was amazing, totally different at high tide and low tide. The bay has a significant number of rocks and was at time crystal clear great for exploring and snorkling. At high tide the waves were perfect for the kids to play in. There were rocks of to the north where you could climb and explore and catch crabs and stack rocks. Early one morning while we were there I was on the main deck of the house with my coffee and bible when a rain storm moved through and as it did the rising sun created a beautiful rainbow right into the bay!
All in all it is a great place unique in its own way! Great to see that portion of Nicaragua for the first time!
This place is pure magic!
This was our fourth stay at this spectacular property. The home accommodated our group of ten people, perfectly. The restaurant and beach are a short walk away but it's nice to return to the privacy that this home offers. The views, location and ambiance simply cannot be beat. The booking and contact with the owner and local manager were seamless. The security of the community is also top notch. I can confidently recommend this property to you without hesitation! Thank you to the Glastris family for another wonderful experience.
Thank you so much. We look forward to seeing you again!
This is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. The house was beautiful and very accommodating. The only note I would make is that the walk down to the house is a bit steep and the railings are wide open underneath and not too safe for little kids. The snorkeling around the bay is really cool too. We saw lots of colorful fish, urchins, and rays.
This review is actually for 2014 but never got around to writing it. My family of 14 went to this house for a couple of days and had a blast. One one bothered us and it was unbelievable views and a comfortable house. The pricing was what were looking for. We are from the US but have family in Nicaragua and both side of my family loved this small escape we had. I recommend it for anyone that wants peace and quit along with family time.
A Great Choice
I'm only putting 4 stars due to a mix up with the cleaning schedule between bookings. The renters who used this place before our group arrived left used towels everywhere, crumbs on the counter and table, a half-eaten burger in the microwave and old food in the fridge. It was not the welcome we'd expected, especially after the three hour drive from Managua. That being said, the cleaning crew did arrive, but only re-made the beds without changing the sheets.
Once the place was in order, the 8 of us had a great time! The rental is off the beaten path, but no more than 5 minutes drive to El Gigante and within a reasonable driving distance to other sights. My favorite part of the trip was relaxing in the pool and watching the sunset over the ocean.
World class surfing for beginners to experts. Fishing with the local fishermen including private charters available at reasonable prices. Nearby golf course. One hour to Colonial Granada - the oldest city in North and South America. Nearby canopy 'zip line' tours. Nearby San Juan del Sur, live volcano, craft market and absolutely authentic Nicaraguan life in the fishing village of Gigante just 5 minutes from the house. Neighbors are intrepid Americans, Canadians and Europeans. Great value on everything from beachside dining to private cook/cleaning staff.
