It’s like a fantasy that transports you back in time.. ..a time when Buenos Aires embraced everything French. They became known as the Paris of South America. The French were the last word in style and good taste. A time when the women went to Paris for their clothing and architects were brought over from France to design the beautiful buildings. We’re pleased to offer to you The House of Chanel, named after the “first lady” of style, Coco Chanel.

About Lynn Carlton

I have always loved to fix and design. When I began my real estate career at 24, I soon realized that the best part of the job was meeting with architects and interior designers and watching as the more artistic elements of construction fell into place. After 13 years in real estate, I built two homes, vacation rentals on magical Orcas Island in Washington State. Then I undertook a major remodel of a cabin on the water. Something clicked during that process of transforming the cabin into a unique work of art; I knew I had found my purpose in life.

Through the next several years, I transformed some 30 rather decrepit homes into fresh, beautiful residences, working tirelessly at the rate of two or three a year. Then I decided to turn my creative attention to designing and constructing very special vacation accommodations. I moved to Mexico, the land of color and craft, and began working there.

The most exciting phase of building a new place is when everything gets pulled together. I love the details, making sure that one thing plays with another in perfect harmony. During the process, I'm absolutely consumed. Each project takes every ounce of my imaginative life -- and I love it.

I enjoy being able to see the possibilities in a wreck of a dwelling. When I first set eyes on a place in need of a make-over, I see what it could be. I can envision how the finished place will look...and that vision guides me.

I work an average of six to eight months on each project, directing a local architect and construction team, supervising every step along the way to make certain my vision is embodied in bricks and mortar, paint and plaster.

I'm always on the hunt for that specific hand-selected piece that blends with everything else. The beauty of Mexico is being able to design a particular piece that can be made by one of the talented artisans that works beautifully...like a glorious puzzle.'

Guestbook comments from the manager

My friend and I were the very first guests to this flat and "oh my god" were we in wonderland when we opened that front door! I personally have been to Buenos Aires 18 times and this property is the most luxurious I have seen thus far - it's right out of "Architectural Digest." I also consider myself an art deco connoisseur having had 3 antique shops in San Francisco, Ca. specializing in art deco and this deco remodel is true to the period as well as the furnishings and furniture. BRAVO!

Notes:
The flat is housed in a special historical building that has just ten private homes. It was designed by the architects, Gelly Cantillo and Moy. Several of their buildings are published in the 2008 book, Buenos Aires Art Deco y Racionalismo. It was built in 1928 in the French Art Deco style. You’ll know you’re somewhere special when you walk through the stylized Art Deco doors and enter the marble entry with the period wrought-iron elevator. I did a complete remodel in 2010, paying careful attention to restoring the original floors, doors, and door hardware. I incorporated all new luxury conveniences and materials into the restoration: granite counters in the kitchen and classic black-and-white granite floors in the kitchen and bathroom. To achieve the feeling of high elegance, I used quality materials throughout, from the faucets to the light fixtures. An important antique chandelier glistens in the entry. Several French Art Deco antiques and light fixtures add elegance.

It was nicer than the pictures led me to believe

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is outstanding and in a great location. It is in great shape and is very quiet at night due to the bedrooms facing a very quiet street. The pictures really do not do it justice. The maps and tour guides were a welcomed find.

Mariana was extremely helpful when I arrived and was there when I left for the airport. When I go back I will rent it again and recommend it to anybody visiting Buenos Aires.

Great place to stay in Buenos Aires!!

  • 5 of 5

I live in the U.S. but I grew up in Buenos Aires. This apartment is outstanding! Fourth floor with elevator. The entrance is from a very busy avenue (which is good) and it faces a very quiet street in the back. It is located in the heart of Recoleta, a very safe neighborhood; one block away from Recoleta Village Mall, with many side street restaurants and coffee shops, the Art Museum, and right next to a deli and a mini market. The subway is a couple of blocks away, as well as many bus lines, and taxis drive by constantly. You can walk downtown in 15 minutes, and I recommend doing so through Alvear and/or Posadas avenue. Again, I cannot stress enough the issue of the safety of the area.

The apartment is in top shape, and stacked with every appliance you can imagine, including a cell phone that came very handy. Mariana was very helpful, waited for us when we arrived, and we were able to leave the apartment on our way to the airport. She really catered to all our needs. I will certainly rent it again in future trips and highly recommend it to anybody visiting Buenos Aires.

Beautiful, wonderful, charming

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful, house of Chanel, building. An appartment

with all needs taken care of.

Marianna and her team managed our stay to perfection.

Wonderful, because of the transformation, decoration and style that Lynn added to this property.

Charming, because of the elegant neighborhood it is located in.

We spent a month in Buenos Aires and enjoyed the city completely. Having a beautiful, wonderful, charming place to return to, after a day or night exploring, was the icing on the cake.

Thank you Lynn,

Lovely Apartment

  • 4 of 5

Mgr. Mariana welcomed us. We got the tour which included a tutorial on 3 TV system remotes. (we still had problems). Decor is outstanding! Owner has taken great care to furnish apt w/the right character of art deco style. Well equipped kitchen if needed and laundry is such a plus. Minor issues are bathroom rug needs washing and towels really need some softener.

Nice to have most laundry products available. Had some trouble w/one front door key but we had both w/us most times. We wanted to use shower squeegee as requested but could not locate it. Wifi was excellent, BTW. Queen bed was very comfortable. (maybe it was the Malbec? hehe). We appreciated the extra half bath--it was also quite stunning.

Location was excellent; a simple map of local businesses would be helpful. Carrefour Express, restaurants, cemetery entry, feria, etc.

The owner obviously takes great pride in her apt. The before pics and story are not to be missed. Guests' Manual should be updated but it is somewhat helpful.

I forgot to write in the Guest Book but it would have been very complimentary.

Will I return? I can't wait to bring my sister and niece. Apt is perfect for a chick trip for us!

Owner's Response: I do take great pride in the apartment and appreciate hearing about anything that is not just right. Based on the guests comments we have: 1. Washed the towels with softener and still not soft enough so will be replacing them 2. Bath mat had just been washed prior to her arrival. Perhaps it was the beige and black color that made it look dirty? We have replaced it so no one has a doubt as to it's cleanliness. 3. Checked the front door keys and they all work. She is referring to the key to the front door to the building. It is a heavy door.and perhaps that was the problem? 4. We have scheduled a tv technician to come out and resolve any issues with the operation of the tv. 5. Next time I am in Buenos Aires I will work on the guest book.

Owner's Response: This is the first and only review we've gotten that wasn't glowing and 5 stars. When my manager was waiting for him to arrive, there was a city wide power outage and it disrupted electrical switches, etc. My manager was able to get everything fixed by the evening. I don't think it's appropriate to complain if everything is taken care of in a timely manner. As to the comment that it was "expensive to what it was" he was paying the US dollar price with Chilean pesos and the exchange rate wasn't terribly favorable for him. The other issue might have been that all of our instructions for how things operate are in English. His English was somewhat limited. After he left, I spoke with my manager and we agreed we would never rent to him again. His disposition was such that there was no way to make him happy. We make it our utmost priority to tend to our guest's comfort and needs. I think this is reflected in all our other reviews.

1920's grandeur and oppulence, 21st century luxury

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is everything that the advertisment says! It is in a quiet, safe but vibrant barrio of BsAs! It is art deco in it's style and ambiance but totally up to date for comfort living ( unlimited hot water, dish washer, washer/dryer).

I stayed here with my daughter and son in law and ended up celebrating her transition to fellowship in Paediatrics (New Zealand), so many bottles of wine were quaffed!

We loved it!
