About the property

Dreaming of a Romantic Get Away filled with peace, tranquility & nature?

How can one choose between the sunrise, the beautiful canoe and row boat rides during the day or the unbelievable summer sunsets? Luckily, you don't have to, they are all right in front of you when you stay in our Getaway Cottage on Daniels Pond! Available for year-round rentals so you can enjoy the natural and unspoiled beauty of the Northeast Kingdom during Winter, Spring, Summer & Fall.

Have you ever stayed at a mountain top lake? Daniels Pond is a little slice of Vermont heaven - a perfect place to enjoy some peace and tranquility. It is a nature lovers delight!

The cottage is waterfront, with the shoreline only steps from the door. It has an open floor plan with natural cedar walls, exposed wood beams and views of the water and mountains at every turn. This fully appointed lakefront home, ideally for couples, small group of friends or small family with children over 8 yrs. It has easy one level living with a bedroom on the main floor, perfect for older couples.

It is located in an area known as the Northeast Kingdom, named by the National Geographic Center for Sustainable Destinations as one of the most desirable places to visit in the United States. Daniels Pond is a 66 acre pond of quiet, pristine water, well known for the spectacular, romantic sunsets. It's "quiet water", because Vermont does not allow powerboats or jet skis here.

Enjoy snowshoeing, skiing, fishing, swimming, use of our canoe, row boat and 2 pool floats. Feel free to bring your own kayaks as it takes about an hour to paddle around the pond. Right outside your door is the level yard, picnic table, private dock and shoreline. The cottage is located on a very quiet dead end road. A great place to walk, play, ride bikes, explore the back roads and enjoy the water. This is a majestic place that gives you a wonderful sense of getting back to nature and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. Gorgeous Fall Foliage colors intensify and change every day, right in front of your eyes!

Why not just sit back and relax, watch the clouds go by and gaze up at the stars each night....when was the last time you did that? Don't you deserve A Getaway?

About Kristi & Ed Bride, Owners

The owners, Kristi & Ed are from VT. We have been married for more than 30 years and love this calm retreat that is our 'secret' on Daniels Pond. We grew up an hour away from Glover, near Montpelier, the capital city. Kristi has been visiting the pond with family since she was a very little girl. We like to shop at at Currier's Store, Pete's Greens Farm Stand and Burtt's Apple Orchard. You might pass us on the Mt. Pisgah hiking trail, bid against us at an Albany auction or catch us floating the sunny afternoon away on the pond. We have fun by chasing a golf ball down the Westmore golf course, standing in line for an ice cream at Pick & Shovel and eating a Strawberry Shortcake at the Irasburg Church Fair. One of our summer favorites (July) is a day trip to Fitch Bay (Quebec-so bring your passport) where wineries and Bleu Lavande (Lavender Farm Fields) are located. We love exploring the towns of the Northeast Kingdom (and Eastern Townships of Quebec) and all they have to offer. We love winter too, Skiing at Jay Peak and Burke Mountain and show shoeing around the pond on snowy day followed by a glass of wine in front of the fire!

Kristi & Ed Bride, Owners purchased this house in 2012

Why Kristi & Ed Bride, Owners chose Vermont

We love the beautiful and unspoiled location, the quiet sounds of the Pond and close proximity to mountains and small towns. From May to October we like to shop for vegetables, eggs and more at farm stands on the side of the road and the many local Farmers Markets. Visit local country stores, small family owned shops, county fairs, festivals & church suppers. Make time to check out the Bread & Puppet Theater Museum, Circus Smirkus, Craftsbury Chamber Players as well as the many artists that reside in the area. This is where you get outside to enjoy hiking, biking, fishing and boating on some of the most beautiful land & water anywhere. In the fall, the leaves change color and the foliage is legendary - you have to see it to believe it! From December through April, skiing/riding Jay Peak, Burke Mountain or Stowe, and snowshoeing, ice skating and snowmobiling are available throughout the area. Jay Peak also has a huge, amazing indoor water park that is open year round! Each spring brings the 'Maple Sugar Season' where the famous VT Maple Syrup 'Liquid Gold' is bottled for all to enjoy on pancakes, ice cream & more!

What makes this house unique

Daniels Pond is so beautiful and this cottage was hand built in the 1980's by Kristi's Dad. He cut down the cedar trees on the lot and used them to build the cottage-all the wood you see inside, he put up by hand! As you can see it is waterfront and has a small sandy beachfront on the edge of the pond, perfect for wading in the water slowly or sitting on the dock and kicking your feet. In the winter, it's perfect for Snowshoeing, Ice Fishing and Cross Country Skiing on the pond. This is a magical place to relax, reconnect with nature (and each other) and get away from it all. Don't you deserve A Getaway on Daniels Pond?

Perfect home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful week at the cottage and were sad to have to leave! Kristi and Ed are so welcoming and accommodating, and the cottage is a true home away from home. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could possibly need, all linens and towels are provided, and many other personal touches at the cottage make it feel so welcoming and comfortable. As a family of 5 we had plenty of space to cook/eat meals, relax on the porch, and enjoy the yard and water. The kids loved the loft sleeping area!

The pond itself is so incredibly peaceful! We spent many hours watching the loons, saw the eagle and heron soaring over the water, and enjoyed much success fishing from the dock. So many wonderful memories were made and we can't wait to come back! Thank you for making our vacation so relaxing and fun, Kristi and Ed! Hope to see you next year!

Owner's Response: Dear Vicki, Mike, K, M & T, We love that your family felt so well cared for and comfortable at the cottage. We try to prepare the cottage the way we would for very dear friends - so all you have to do is bring in your bags and everything else is done for you! Now that's a vacation! Thank you for our wonderful 5 star review :) Hopefully the "fish tales" will last until the next time we see you! Cheers, Kristi & Ed

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We had such a relaxing time at the Get- Away Cottage. It is so incredibly peaceful here. Each day we would take the rowboat or canoe out on the " pond". Most always we saw loons, but better than seeing them is hearing them at night. I don't think I ever heard a car at night. The beds were wonderfully comfortable, and the appliances were all top quality. We took day trips sometimes - Stowe is an hour and 10 minutes away, Cabot Creamery is about half an hour. Many times we went 10 minutes into Glover to the general store that has everything, including an old screen door that slaps shut as you enter. As we took walks on the dirt roads the neighbors would all wave. It was just a wonderfully relaxing vacation, with a beautiful, homey cottage to stay in. Dale, Becky and Laura

Relaxing week!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this house on the lake the week of July 8th. The weather could have been better but that did not dampen our vacation. We were greeted with a basket of goodies, the house was spotless and welcoming. There's a book of information about local restaurants, places to go, we usd it frequently. The bed was very comfy, and the kitchen well appointed. It was a fun, relaxing week! Kristi is very thoughtful and couldn't be more helpful.

Wonderful home in a picture perfect setting! A++++

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four with two girls ages 10 and 13 had a terrific, fun, and restful week on Daniel's Pond in this immaculate and well-supplied cottage. Kristi and Ed have thought of everything and we felt warmly and genuinely welcomed by them to stay in their family's home.

We rented two paddleboards for the kids from Clyde River Recreation and we had our kayaks with us so we spent a lot of time out on the water. We fished and swam and floated around on this very nice and clean big pond. There were loons to watch and a family of ducks swam close by every day.

Kristi is terrific and we took all of her advice about the best local places to visit and she was "right on" about all the neat places to tour and eat, etc. The setting here is pristine and beautiful in all kinds of weather. The house is comfortable with all the amenities we needed with kids (e.g. good Wifi at the end of the day!). It was a wonderful and memorable week. This home and location deserve 5 stars all around. We lucked out with this rental for sure and hope to go back!
