About this property
Escape to your cozy 1-bedroom cottage near Kingdom Trails
Stay in your own private little cottage with windows on all 4 walls. This unique property is the studio of Vermont/California artist, Meryl Lebowitz, and was created to have prime views of the painter's property. The Artist's cottage has it's own heating system, bathroom and kitchenette with electric fry pan, toaster, mini fridge, rice maker, crock pot, hot pot, coffee maker, microwave and a gas grille. Enjoy hanging out inside (bring your inner artist), or explore the trails that traverse the 40 acres. In the winter you can snow shoe or back country ski from the front door, In the summer enjoy the flowers, visit the cabin in the woods, hit targets with the bb gun, and make sure to have a camp fire.
We have 40 acres of off leash trails for your pets. Pets are not allowed to stay in the cottage alone. Please let us know before booking if you'll be bringing your dog.
Kirby is a scenic gem in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, bordered by Burke, Victory, Concord, St Johnsbury and Lyndon. The Cottage is 5 miles from East Burke, a village well known for it's ski area and biking trails, and 4 miles from Lyndon, home of Lyndon State College.
If you are looking for the true Vermont experience, this place is for you. The property is located on top of 40 acres, with views of Vermont's green mountains in all directions and not a road in sight. Bike or drive 5 miles on a scenic dirt road to East Burke Village, (connector to Kingdom trails about 2 miles our dirt road) surrounded by skiing and mountain biking trails. Or jump in your car and head out on the pavement to beautiful Lake Willoughby. If you're an artist, or just love beautiful places, there are plenty of gardens and stonewalls to sketch, paint or photograph, and some big trees to dream under.
My husband, and sculptor, David Tanych and I (Meryl Lebowitz) have been working on this property for the past 10 years. We designed and built all of the buildings, which include an art studio, woodworking shop, metal studio and house. I consider this compound our finest collaboration. We love having people connect with the property and encourage you to feel creative here! Bring cameras, sketch pads, notebooks...or just chill. It's fun to walk the trails and check out David's ponds at the bottom of our hill. If the cottage is full for your dates, send us a request. We may have something else available for your stay.

About the host
Hosted by Meryl Lebowitz
I am an oil painter, who has been working as an artist for 30 years. David is a woodworker, and metal artist. Together we have collaborated on our property for 11 years. Recently, we have been spending our winters in California, perusing our art careers, returning to Vermont in time to plant the garden.
Why they chose this property
We bought this property with a vision of making it into a compound that would inspire creativity. It was a blank canvas with an incredible vista, except for the acres of clear-cut forest, which made it look as if a bomb had been dropped. First we cleaned up the land, which took a year, David built a barn to house our equipment on the second year, I started the perennial gardens, and together with our son, we began building the stone walls. The third year, my studio and David's woodshop were built, we then were able to work up here, while we lived off site. We began the house the following year, and David had the opportunity to build a structure with a rounded wall, the front wall of our house)....We lived in my studio for 6 months. Our first project in the house was an apartment, complete with David's beautiful wood cabinets and concrete counter tops. We lived there while we began working on the rest of our home.
What makes this property unique
Benefits? This compound is like heaven. Gardens, trails, firepits, a cabin in the woods, fresh air, no traffic, walking and running loops, privacy, organic veggies, beauty, beauty, beauty....
If you want to vacation in a rural area, you cant do better than this. And town is only 4 miles away.
