This was our great-grandparents’ house. Over the years, and after the family moved to the city, it fell into very poor condition, but it never stopped being part of our story.

We grew up listening to stories about the river and the land, and spending whole days at Castelo river Beach, playing until the sun went down. This place shaped us more than we realized at the time.

When we decided to restore it, we knew we didn’t want to simply renovate walls - we wanted to preserve the soul of the place.

The entire restoration was carried out with deep respect for the past, while always thinking about the comfort of those who visit us today. The stones that now form the walls of the house are the original ones, each carefully recovered. We opened the house to the river, allowing the light and the views over the Douro to flow into every room. Every corner was designed so that you feel truly at home, in a balance between tradition and modern comfort.

Rebuilding this house was also a way to carry forward a long-held dream of our father. He truly believed this place deserved a new life. We didn’t manage to finish it in time for him to see it complete, but we did it for him too. To honor his vision and the love he taught us to have for this land.

For us, this isn’t an impersonal business.

It’s a people-to-people project.

We opened the doors of Costa Douro to share with you the little paradise that has always felt like a part of us.

And if, when you leave, you take with you a little of the peace we’ve always found here, then we’ll know it was all worth it.
