About James and Mary Wilhite

We built this cabin in 1996 as our primary residence and now rent it out for others to enjoy. My Wife and I love the peace and quiet of country living and the ability to take a hike in the woods for quiet time.

Great stay

Stayed two nights. So cozy, peaceful and quiet. I slept like a log! James was great and provided lots of local info. Would definitely stay again.

Sweet cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

This was our first VRBO experience! I took my mom for our usual East Texas getaway for antiquing & she was so happy with choice of the cabin and the charm of it. The panoramic windows to the outside views were her favorite. The queen bed is in a loft (very comfortable bed) & although the stairs are steep, there is a good handrail and sturdy steps that my 70 something year old mom was able to easily navigate taking her time.

On a nature note: We were awakened by an aggressive cardinal who decided the window reflection was his enemy but we first thought it was someone knocking on the door, so don't be alarmed if you hear knocking, it's probably the cardinal still trying to take himself out. Also, if you're not used to a donkey braying randomly in the middle of the night, he's also in the distance doing his job apparently =)

Hospitality and Communication: James was super easy to communicate with via email and phone. Even left us with some snacks, fresh eggs, fruit and yogurt which was super appreciated because we were there the weekend of the really bad storms and didn't want to venture out. We'd love to stay again!

Owner's Response: Karen, Loved having you. Do come visit again. I'll speak to the donkey and have another conversation with the Cardinal. The both like to welcome city folks to the country in their own way. James and Mary

Perfect quick trip

  • 5 of 5

We took our two children, ages 4 and 8, for a quick trip to the piney woods. The kids loved the cozy cabin and wandering around on the trails. The owners' home is close by and they made sure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed our time there!

Amazing place if you like the woods and peace. James the owner is so kind and very helpful. We were looking to get out of the big city and see the stars in the sky.

GREAT get away!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed for the weekend and we LOVED it. At first, I was getting a bit frustrated with the wifi but it was a blessing. You enjoy your time there a lot more that way. We went to Tyler, Texas which is really nearby and we did a lot of stuff out there. We rented some movies, watched movies out in the dark (it's almost pitch black out there) and we are definitely going back! They also have a nursery with beautiful plants which is awesome. Thank you guys!
