About James and Mary Wilhite
We built this cabin in 1996 as our primary residence and now rent it out for others to enjoy. My Wife and I love the peace and quiet of country living and the ability to take a hike in the woods for quiet time.

Cute cabin in the woods.
Cute cabin in the woods. Perfect for a getaway. Enjoyed literally being in the trees.
Wonderful weekend getaway!
What a gem! I’m from the PNW originally and I have found that “getting away to the woods” has not been as easy as I had hoped since moving to the Dallas area. The Mariposa cabin was definitely an answer to this nature lover’s prayers!
Tucked away from the main road just a little less than a quarter mile, you feel you could be miles from civilization. The only hint of nearby inhabitants is the distant hum of a tractor, the proud crow of a rooster, or the bossy gobble of the resident Tom turkey. The grounds were quite extensive (by this city slicker’s standards), and there were plenty of woods and pastures to just roam and appreciate the world around you (the cattle were friendly and inquisitive).
The cabin itself was just the right size for 1-2 people, and I think that even 3-4 could fit comfortably, if they knew each other well. The stairs to the lofted bedroom were a bit steep - while not a problem for me, I would exercise caution if you have small children (or dogs) and use a baby gate to prohibit access. My favorite part of the cabin were all of the windows! When sitting in the main area with the windows open, I still felt as though I was sitting outside - just with less bugs. The bedroom felt like a treehouse and the bed with its pillow top was divine. The outdoor decks were also lovely - I enjoyed having my morning coffee outside with a little fire in the fire pit. I also cooked the majority of my meals on the gas grill, which was easy to use, cooked well and evenly, and had a nice thermometer to help better gauge your cook temp. Oh, there’s also a tv, but I didn’t use it as I was too busy unplugging.
The owners (Mr. and Mrs. Wilhite) were very communicative and helpful. They provided farm fresh eggs during my stay! As well as some staples like cereal, milk, cream for coffee, fresh fruit and even some Blue Bell ice cream in the freezer!
I was staying right after things began opening up after COVID, so I didn’t visit many of the local attractions like the blueberry farm or winery nearby. But, I did spend a considerable amount of time exploring Blue Moon gardens which is immediately adjacent to the property. It’s a wonderful nursery and had so many unique find! The craft shop features beautiful felting and wool work done by Mrs. Wilhite and the gift shop was divine - I came away with a lovely assortment of candles, lotions, earrings, and books!
I really just can’t say enough wonderful things about my stay...book it!
I rented the cabin for my nephew and his new bride as an easy honeymoon location when traveling is discouraged. They loved the location and are hoping to come back each year!
Great Get Away
This place is a GEM. It is a true get away in nature. Everyone and everything is so friendly and welcoming. The hosts add little touches that really enhance the stay. Will definitely be coming back.
Loved the cabin
Loved it. Would go back. No wifi or cell service that could be a plus for most.
