Nestled between the two financial districts (City of London and Canary Wharf) on the North side of the Thames River, my apartment offers the best of both worlds – close proximity to the action but without all the noise that’s usually associated with city centre living. The apartment is situated on a quiet one-way street, and the bedrooms are at the rear of the property facing onto a converted church (now used for a children's day care centre) so there are no noisy bells to disturb your Sunday morning lie-in.
. Lovely, bright, comfortable apartment close to everything you need to make it your base in the city
. Wooden floors throughout (except for the double bedrooms) and has a homely and contemporary feel. It is light and spacious and is able to cater for up to six people
. Comfortable beds with orthopaedic mattresses are provided in each room
. Super-comfortable single or double blow up mattresses are provided if you have more than four in your group
Available for your use is a TV, video and DVD player, as well as a number of books, guides and other helpful information to make your stay in the city as enjoyable as possible.
WIFI internet is also provided for your use.
The apartment has access to a communal roof terrace with great views over the rooftops of the city with views towards Tower Bridge in one direction, and Canary Wharf in the other. The perfect setting for a few quiet moments contemplating life in the evening whilst looking across the rooftops of London.
Within a 10 minute walking radius you will find possibly the most famous of all London attractions, Tower Bridge (absolutely stunning up close), as well as the Tower of London (centuries of history), Spitalfields (markets), Brick Lane (curry houses), St Katherine Docks (marina, restaurants) and dozens of restaurants, fast food outlets, bars, shops and parks. The closest supermarket is about a 3 minute walk away.
Situated in a very historic old part of London, the apartment is located about a 5-6 minute walk from the local metro/subway station – Tower Hill, which is in Zone 1 (the most central area) on the Circle (yellow) and District (green) lines. There are also lots of bus connections going into the City of London (if you can’t be bothered with the 20 minute walk), as well as buses to take you to Fleet Street, Oxford Street and beyond. Canary Wharf is also conveniently accessed either by DLR (overground train) or the bus, or a 40 minute walk along the Thames riverfront. And if you really want to live like a local, there is always the option of hiring one of the thousands of blue 'Boris' bikes available in the city centre - there are three bike docking stations just around the corner.
*Upcoming events near this property are the Resolution Run London the 11th of March, the London Marathon on the 22nd of April and of course all major events at the Excel London. This property is an excellent choice to be on the 1st row of the action for free!

About Rachel B
I'm a true-blue Aussie living in London. I like being right in the heart of the action and realized long ago that as time is precious, it was far better to live in the centre of town and have a short commute to everything I loved, than to live further out and have to travel everywhere! London offers so much and as a newcomer, I wanted to experience it all! Living so close to Tower Bridge, right in between the two main financial districts, meant that I had the best of all possible worlds, whilst also having an amazing choice of shops, restaurants, Wilton's Theatre (a one minute walk from the front door and a place I highly recommend to EVERY visitor) and so many other amenities, all within a matter of minutes away. This was my home for a number of years. I am sure you will love the apartment as much as I do, and as much as my previous guests!
Rachel B purchased this Apartment in 2002
Why Rachel B chose Whitechapel
Being an Australian growing up around water, it was always important to me to be near water in London too. And as a runner, what better location to live in than somewhere close to the Thames for a morning jog?! The fact that it is so central and close to all the 'buzz' of arty East London were other added bonuses. And it's right next to St Katherine Docks - one of the little known beauty spots of the city!
What makes this Apartment unique
Situated on a small, quiet street, the apartment offers tranquility and yet you will be just minutes by foot from many bustling areas. I am a bit of a keen conservationist, try and recycle wherever I can and also prefer to use environmentally friendly cleaning products (ie as little chemicals as possible). I like to do my bit to look after our planet so I buy recycled products even though they generally cost a little more. However, rest assured that I don’t like to compromise on quality and am a bit of a clean-freak, so I can guarantee you’ll be staying in a lovely clean, well-maintained apartment. After all, I wouldn’t expect anyone to stay somewhere I wasn’t happy to stay myself!

Perfect for our family of 4
This was EXACTLY what we needed for our family (2 adults, 2 elementary-school-aged kids). Close to the tube, walking distance to many great attractions and restaurants. Wonderful to have the space to spread out for our trip and to be able to do laundry and cook our own food. We would absolutely stay here again.
Thank you for taking the time to review our apartment. We are happy to know you enjoyed your stay with us. We do find that guests love to have the ability to use the fully equipped kitchen to prepare meals as not everyone wants to eat out all the time, although there are dozens of restaurants within a short walk from the apartment. Guest feedback is imperative for our growth and with reviews like yours we know we are doing a good job! Our team works very hard to offer an excellent service that keeps improving every day. Our goal is to make our guests happy and there nothing better than having them coming back and choosing us again!
Three women rented this apartment specifically because it had two bathrooms. The ensuite bathroom was the smallest room with the smallest shower stall I have ever been in. The shower door couldn't close all the way (no inside handle) and neither did the bathroom door (swollen.) Really no privacy unless you were alone in the room. Also there are notes all over the place citing reasons your deposit wouldn't be refunded. The tone of the notes was off putting. Otherwise it is an okay location, clean and well appointed. Nothing special, but certainly adequate and a lot cheaper than a hotel.
Thank you for taking the time to review the apartment and we do appreciate the four stars :-)
Unfortunately in a city like London it’s a rarity to have more than one bathroom as space is at such a premium. As a result, bathrooms in the UK/Europe will always be smaller than American ones as more importance is given to living spaces being as big as possible! Thankfully most guests appreciate that and it’s never been an issue before (please see the previous review). However, we are continually looking at ways of improving what we offer to guests and in fact have been in discussion with a designer to upgrade the bathroom and somehow squeeze a larger shower in there! Thankfully the other bathroom is a good size and as we often have up to six or seven (at a push) guests staying, they do appreciate having two bathrooms. We have notes around the apartment on how to use the appliances but there is also a note asking guests not to remove their makeup with our white towels. In the past we’ve had to throw away many towels because of this, and as people who care about the planet we live on, that didn’t gel well with us! We now provide makeup remover wipes especially to prevent this from happening, so there should be no reason for guests to remove their makeup with our towels and therefore no reason to not refund all the deposit. Hopefully, it’s a win win :-)
Five women stayed here for 9 days and it did not seem cramped. Having 2 bathrooms was excellent. Apt was very well equipped. Location is perfect for walking to many good restaurants, tube stations, grocery store, many sightseeing spots. Area felt safe walking at night. With 3 of us in our 50's and 2 in their 20's, we often wanted to do different things at different times. Because we only had 1 set of keys and got no response at all on our request for a 2nd set of keys, it did make it difficult to juggle who had to be home to let the others in. With a 350 pound deposit paid, it would have been easy enough to charge us if we had lost the 2nd set. I recommend this apt if the group is going to be all doing the same thing so you wont have to juggle the keys. Otherwise we did enjoy our stay at this apt and loved the location and rooftop terrace.
I enjoyed staying at this beautiful apartment. The apartment was in good condition, pretty updated, and clean. The owner looks after details such as having tourist guide books available, fresh flowers, and others. As a word of caution: the apartment has heating, but no A/C. This may not matter depending on the time of the year you visit, especially given the weather at London. Even though the weather was in the 50's (Fahrenheit) and technically the temperature inside should have been fine with little or no heat, even after I turned off the heat, I found that heat from nearby apartments and hallway made the place a bit warmer than I would desire. Also, I would recommend the owner get rid of a few signs in the apartment (for example, the one about not staining towels -- if you loose one towel in the process of making 200 pounds, most hotels call this the cost of doing business). Aside from these two details, I have a very favorable opinion of the apartment / flat. The owner seemed very diligent in her communication, delivered the product / service / experience, and refunded the deposit on a timely basis.
Thank you for the five stars and your lovely comments and yes, I try and think of everything guests would want in a home away from home! I know most people choose an apartment over a hotel for many reasons, but I like to provide as many facilities as possible so my guests get the best of both worlds - a lot of what they'd have at a hotel with all the benefits of staying in an apartment.
As is the case with most properties in the UK, there is no air-conditioning in the apartment but thankfully it has a great through-breeze when windows are open on both sides of the apartment. An added benefit - security latches are on all windows so they can remain open at night. I also provide fans in the summertime. And yes, we used to get through quite a few towels which my 'inner conservationist' became concerned with, but I've gone the extra mile and now provide make-up remover pads in the bathrooms for any guests who've forgotten to bring their own. Just one of the many little touches to hopefully create a positive experience like the one you had!
Great apartment but wouldn't rent it again because of deposit requirement and method of payment
Between the deposit and rent payment it cost me an excessive amount in fees. From now on I will stay at hotels that accept credit card payment
I'm glad you enjoyed your time in the apartment - thank you for the four stars and your feedback.
Actually some specialist insurance companies (mine included) require the owner to take a deposit from a guest when an apartment is rented out as a holiday let, in much the same way a hotel would take an imprint of a credit card at check in to cover any 'eventualities'. Many owners don't seem to realize their regular insurance doesn't cover an apartment let out short term, and do not take out the type of insurance I have - thereby leaving guests vulnerable in the case of something happening. The welfare of my guests when they're under my roof is just too important to me - thus I must take a deposit to keep my insurance company happy. Regarding fees, all financial institutions do charge fees and what they charge is unfortunately beyond my control. However when a guest decides they want to go ahead and book, I provide them with full details on different payment methods so they can use whichever method of sending funds is most relevant to them.
Wonderful London Flat
This is the second time we've stayed at Rachel's flat, and we expect that we will stay there again on a future trip. The flat is well furnished and well located. Rachel has been very responsive to any needs (the building's elevator had a light go out while we were there, and as soon as we let Rachel know, it got fixed!) Rachel keeps a folder with information about the appliances and about things to do and see, so we were never left trying to find things. The location is a convenient walk to some great restaurants (Smith's is not to be missed) and the tube. The convenience of having a taxi meet us at the airport with the keys to the flat was perfect. Even though our plane arrived late, we were met. The cost of that taxi was the same as taking one from the ramp. Take advantage!
Thank you for your lovely review and it was a pleasure to have you stay again, this time with your granddaughter. I must say I'm fairly blessed with the number of return guests I have - especially the ones who travel from so far away! I do try and be as responsive as possible to guests needs and I'm continually refining my procedures to make that happen! (Feedback such as yours allows that to keep happening, too, so thank you for that) Part of giving my guests as much information as possible includes leaving the famous 'pink folder' in the apartment so they have information and instructions on all the apartment appliances at their fingertips, whenever they need it. And yes, my recommended car service is there for a reason; unfortunately there have been guests who've ignored my advice, took a taxi from the ramp and discovered upon arrival they'd paid 50% more than they'd have paid with our pre-arranged car service! I would be very honoured to have you back again!!
Our apartments are not serviced so once your booking is confirmed we will send you information via email on how to collect the keys from our local office and how to get to the apartment. The waterside bars and restaurants of St. Katherine Docks are a 5-minute walk from the property. The historic Wilton’s Music Hall is less than 200 metres away. The Tower of London and Tower Bridge are less than 0.5 miles from the apartment. Canary Wharf is 20 minutes away by public transport and Liverpool Street is a 20-minute walk away.
