Relaxing getaway

My husband and I were reflecting back on our favorite trips in 2016, and we think Sunbury is one of the best kept secrets in Georgia. Fisherman's cottage, in Sunbury, provided every amenity needed for the beach, boating, cuisine and kitchen supplies, and pure relaxation. This adorable cottage has so many attributes: Delicious sea food restaurant, Sunbury Crab Company, within walking distance; spectacular sunrises; porpoises and sea otters in the morning; boaters and sailors passing by,, and plenty of space for the kids - including the four-legged kind.

Fisherman's Cotage is a fantastic family retreat from busy Atlanta - about 5 hours drive. During our stay, we enjoyed a beach day at Jekyll Island and bought fresh-caught shrimp on our way back to the cottage. Nice outdoor grill at the cottage for your fresh catches!!!

My husband and I were blessed to spend 5 wonderful nights at this amazing cottage. It was the most peaceful, relaxing, stress-free, vacation that we have ever had. We caught fish, watched dolphins swim next to our dock, and were able to completely disconnect from this crazy world for a short time. Dana is WONDERFUL. Although we had NO problems, she was available 24/7. The rental process, from beginning to end, was a breeze. The cabin was spotless and everything we needed was provided. We can't wait to return. Hoping to stay longer next trip.

Fantastic Weekend!

If you are looking for a great getaway, look no further! My wife, three kids, and my parents stayed three nights and it was truly relaxing. The property was everything it said it was and more. It was fully stocked with everything you need with items such as coffee maker, filters, soap, cookers, gas grill, crab traps, you name it. The views are amazing and well worth the trip. Even though the crabs were somewhat out of season, we experienced everything from dolphin watching, boating, fishing, sight seeing, and even catching some small sharks off the dock. I want to also want to give a great big thank you to the person who planted the two magnolia trees on the bank so many years ago. They provide the perfect place sit in the shade, relax, and watch the boats in the waterways! We will definitely go again!

will worth the money

we have stayed at this property numerous times, and have enjoyed it each time. the neighbor next door as always been willing to offer tips about fishing, are places to eat. this cottage is will taken care of, and everything one needs to have a good vacation, is there waiting for you. the dock is a plus to tie your boat at, plus the boat landing is only about 500 ft. from the dock, and you can get in and out on all tides. there is three places to buy bait from, and if you should need any boat repairs, as i did the last time i was there, there is a boat repair shop about three miles from you. and they went out of their way to fix mind so i could enjoy my time there

Not a peaceful retreat

  • 2 of 5

The manager was perfect and we found a welcome package on arrival. The house had the large screened porch we wanted. There is a public fishing dock just down from the house at the boat ramp and it was in use every day we stayed. Boom boxes, screaming babies (5 hours) and being on the water the sound carried right to our cottage. The local Army airbase decided to practice bombing runs while we were there and it shook the house from 6AM until late afternoon. Our dogs were terrified as were we until we looked on the map to see what it could be. These things cannot be blamed on the owners but the lack of thorough cleaning should be looked into. The blinds in the living room had not been cleaned in a long time and there were dead insects hanging in spider webs on a couple. We vacuumed lots of long hair from under the kitchen table and behind the bathroom door and wiped down the back of the door, too. We love rustic but a clean rental is a must.

They did include everything we needed except the peace and quiet so we left a couple of days early and were not even concerned with getting any money back. We were offered a discount on other properties if we wanted to return.

Owner's Response: I was surprised by this review because I did not hear any comments from this guest until after he departed but I assure you I would have remedied the items immediately that are in my control. This is my first less than stellar review on this property or any property in my rental program and as I strive for 100% guest satisfaction. Most guests have commented on how they love the serene direct waterfront environment in the small rural community of Sunbury. I apologize for the Fort Stewart manuevers 25 miles away during your stay. We have taken your comments to heart and will address what we can immediately.
