You will be charmed by this tastefully decorated 1 bedroom apartment (located on the 2nd floor of the townhouse, there is one apartment per floor). A 18thC townhouse, combining old and new styles for (what we believe is) a tasteful result. We have paid particular attention to the confort of our guests when choosing such essential elements as the beds and furnitures.

Located on a quiet portion of the pedestrianized main street (rue Nationale). Within easy walking distance from everything that makes Amboise an excellent holiday town.

A bit of history: Rue Nationale, now a pedestrian street full of charming shops and spots for eating/drinking, was in former days the road that lead away from town (the gate in the medieval ramparts is still there, now with a clock and called the “belfry”—look to the left as you exit the house). In the eighteenth century, the stage coaches for Tours and points beyond left from the house next door, and our house was the lay-over accommodations for the coachmen. The livery for horses and coaches was a bit farther down the street, in the courtyard behind the present-day cinema. And whereas the roughnecks of yesteryear probably slept on straw pallets, and with no privacy, we now invite you to enjoy your own private space, with confortable bedding and full modern amenities.

- Historical sites: 13th C St Denis church, Royal Amboise castle, home to François 1er and other kings of France, the Clos Lucé, last residence of Leonardo da Vinci and historical old town center streets.

- Gourmet restaurants, excellent weekly open air Market on the banks of the Loire, featuring local specialities: Cheeses, wines, meats and local produce.

- Bakery, newsagent, supermarket (open 7am-10pm) Mon-Sat, delicatessens, boutiques.

During the summer months, the town is a hive of activity: night-time open air Markets, street performers, local artists exhibitions, open air swimming pool on the Ile d'or nearby.

A short drive will take you to: Chenonceau castle, Chambord castle... (all main Loire valley castles).

Excellent location, excellent host

This little apartment was precisely what we hoped for, cozy but with full amenities. Clean and modern. And the location was perfect, right on a main pedestrian street in Amboise. We spent four nights here and loved each of them.

Beyond the apartment, however, was our host Pascale, who went above and beyond to be gracious and accommodating. We truly felt like honored guests, and it was helpful for two English speakers to have a local who could give recommendations in our language. Thanks for making our vacation exactly what we hoped!

The best rental we have ever!!!

The Coachman's House exceeded our expections! Not only was the apartment more than adequate, Pascale was a joy to work with. She met us at the train station after our arrival from Paris and drove us to the apartment. There are three apartments in the building and we stayed on the top floor (third floor). From the moment we set foot in the apartment, we knew our stay was going to be great!! There is lots of natural light coming into every room. The living room is very ample and great for reading in the morning and unwinding in the afteroon. The kitchen is fully stocked with appliances (frig, mico, dishwasher, washer/dyer, stove & oven) every possible utensil, dishware, drinkware etc is available. The bedroom and bathroom are spacious and very comfortable. There is shopping along the street which is closed to cars from 10a-7p. Right accross the street is a bakery that opens at 7am where we bought fresh croissants every day. There are lots of options along the street, grocery store, meat market, Basque shop that sells an outstanding Jamon Iberico and lots of shopping too. The area is quiet and peaceful and because the apartment was so high up, we had a great view of the rooftops and the church on the hill. Pascale offers a nicely organized book with dinner and local attractions suggestions. We didn;t rent a car so most of our sightseeing was done with bikes that we rented for a few days. Amboise is a great location because it is small and quaint and because Rick Steves recommends it as a "must see". I would highy recommend The Coachman's House!!

Great location in Amboise

This lovely apartment is on the 3rd floor but steps were not a problem. It is spacious and is exactly as it appears in the photos. Washing machine was a big plus for us as we were on a 3 week trip and this was just about in the middle. No cars are allowed on the street but there is free parking about a 5 minute walk from the flat. There was coffee but no sugar. We did not cook there but bought prepared food a couple of nights. There are two places just down the street to buy food, vegetables, bread, etc. It's a great location for visiting the nearby chateaux.

Wonderful stay

We had a wonderful time at the Coachman's House apartment. It is very elegantly furnished and decorated, clean, quiet, and comfortable. It is also in a great central location in Amboise and we found Amboise to be the perfect base point for exploring the rest of the Loire valley. Pascale was a wonderful hostess and was very kind and accommodating. We hope to return here again in the future. Merci beaucoup, Pascale!
