La Maison des Cochers- 1rst floor apartment-

Bedrooms 1
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 4 - 6 nights

About the property

Apartment, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

You will be charmed by this tastefully decorated 1 bedroom apartment (located on the 1st floor of the townhouse, there is one apartment per floor). We have taken a lot of time and effort in restoring this 18thC townhouse, combining old and new styles for (what we believe is) a tasteful result. We have paid particular attention to the confort of our guests when choosing such essential elements as the beds and furnitures.

Located on a quiet portion of the pedestrianized main street (rue Nationale). Within easy walking distance from everything that makes Amboise an excellent holiday town.

A bit of history: Rue Nationale, now a pedestrian street full of charming shops and spots for eating/drinking, was in former days the road that lead away from town (the gate in the medieval ramparts is still there, now with a clock and called the “belfry”—look to the left as you exit the house). In the eighteenth century, the stage coaches for Tours and points beyond left from the house next door, and our house was the lay-over accommodations for the coachmen. The livery for horses and coaches was a bit farther down the street, in the courtyard behind the present-day cinema. And whereas the roughnecks of yesteryear probably slept on straw pallets, and with no privacy, we now invite you to enjoy your own private space, with confortable bedding and full modern amenities.

- Historical sites: 13th C St Denis church, Royal Amboise castle, home to François 1er and other kings of France, the Clos Lucé, last residence of Leonardo da Vinci and historical old town center streets.

- Gourmet restaurants, excellent weekly open air Market on the banks of the Loire, featuring local specialities: Cheeses, wines, meats and local produce.

- Bakery, newsagent, supermarket (open 7am-10pm) Mont-Sat, delicatessens, boutiques.

During the summer months, the town is a hive of activity: night-time open air Markets, street performers, local artists exhibitions, open air swimming pool on the Ile d'or nearby.

A short drive will take you to: Chenonceau castle, Chambord castle... (all main Loire valley castles).

Beautiful apartment in Amboise

  • 5 of 5

The apartment on Rue Nationale in Amboise is exactly as pictured on the VRBO site. Central location, excellent helpful host in Pascale, well outfitted for comfort and function. Close to restaurants, morning bakery, on a pedestrian walking street with free parking close by. Excellent host, beautiful rental in a beautiful town in the middle of the

Loire Chateau country. Couldn't ask for more.

A Relaxing French Stay

  • 5 of 5

This apartment was incredibly fantastic. The decorating was stylish and classy AND what a location...walk to everything and feel the ambiance of a historical city. All kitchen necessities were there, and the double sinks in the large bathroom made our everyday preparation easy and without hassle. The bed was comfortable and better yet, the room was silent for excellent sleep. Our last and favorite meal was at the charming I'llot, recommended by Pascale. We suggest following her recommendations..they are all right on. She speaks excellent English, is pleasant, helpful and patient.

Thank you for making our September, 2017 stay a highlight of our French trip.

Excellent Choice

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from spending 4 terrific nights in Pascale's second floor apartment. The pictures are accurate as the apartment is decorated beautifully and was very clean and came with all the necessities . The apartment does not have an elevator but the climb up with two large suitcases was manageable. The location is terrific, close to all shops, restaurants, grocery stores and free overnight parking. Pascale is a terrific host and was there to meet us upon our arrival and the bottle of chilled white wine was so appreciated. Renters do need to be aware that the street is closed to vehicular traffic certain hours of the day and you may want to list that information in the apartment guide book. And though our stay was bearable, you may think about putting in some wall mounted air conditioning units., as we found it difficult to sleep with the windows open due to flying insects. But given the chance to stay in Amboise again I would certainly stay again in the apartment, as long as it wasn't the middle of the summer.

P.S- don't be afraid to recommend the Chinese restaurant (Le Pekin) around the corner from the apartment to your American tourists, as sometimes we just need a taste of home :-)

Couldn't have been better!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't ask for a nice place to stay in Amboise. The apartment was immaculate in condition, cleanliness, and decor. It's in a great location within 10 minutes walking to any tourist destination in the town. Bedroom is in the center of the apartment, so it is very quiet with no street noise. Decor is fully modern and fun. The combo washer-dryer was also very nice to have if you're on an extended stay. Pascale was great and gave us ideas for restaurants and town events. Don't miss the open market in Amboise on Saturday morning- it's a 5 minute walk from the apartment!

Fantastic apartment and location!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights this past week and it was everything we had hoped for. The overall ambiance and cleanliness were a 10 out of 10. Pascale was most pleasant and accommodating and went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable. One of the best VRBOs that we have ever used. Try the great coffee right across the street at 8 o'clock coffee!!

Great layout and short walk to all the restaurants.
