About this property
Sip, Hike, Relax - A Private 20-Acre Haven in Wine Country
Nestled in Alto Pass, Alto Cabin is the perfect escape for wine lovers, adventurers, and families alike. This three-level retreat offers comfort, charm, and plenty of space to relax. The first floor has a cozy rec-room feel, complete with a bedroom featuring two twin beds, a full bath, washer and dryer, and arcade games for a bit of fun. Walk up the spiral staircase to the bright and welcoming main level, where you’ll find a brand new fully stocked kitchen, complete with spices, olive oil, and everything you need to whip up a feast for your loved ones. This floor also houses a spacious king bedroom with an attached full bath. The final floor offers a beautiful lofted queen bedroom, a gorgeous fully remodeled bathroom, and a full-sized desk, making it an ideal spot for both rest and remote work.
Step outside and unwind in the brand new hot tub or gather around the firepit under the stars. Fun fact: the large stones leading up to the firepit were excavated right from the property, giving it a touch of authentic Alto Pass character. Surrounded by 20 private acres in the heart of the Shawnee National Forest, the cabin is less than a mile from three wineries on the Shawnee Wine Trail. Whether you’re here for a romantic getaway, an outdoor adventure with family, a girls’ trip through the vineyards, or a hunting retreat with friends, Alto Cabin has something for everyone. Even after years of visits, our family is still discovering new gems nearby! Fall in love with Alto Pass, like we did, and experience the magic.

James was a fantastic guest! He was respectful of the property, easy to communicate with, and left Alto Cabin in excellent condition. We'd be happy to host him again anytime and highly recommend him to other hosts.
We stayed here for a hunting trip and it was amazing. The house was very well-appointed and the hot tub for sure got used after some long day out in the cold looking for deer! We will definitely rent again!
Great experience for a young family. Property was well stocked with essentials (e.g., cooking items, spices and seasonings, grilling items, firewood, cleaning pods) and extras (e.g., brochures for area attractions, lawn games, board games, rock hounding information). We enjoyed exploring the trail at the bottom of the driveway and finding fossils everywhere. Host should consider adding info about nearby Rolling Oak Alpaca Ranch and area trail ride experiences like Giant City Stables to the materials at the house. We appreciated the dedication toward cleanliness with linens!

Thank you for the wonderful review, Christopher! We're so glad you and your family enjoyed your stay and were able to explore the property, hike the trail, and hunt for fossils.
We also appreciate your suggestions about Rolling Oak Alpaca Ranch and Giant City Stables. Those are great recommendations, and we'll look at adding them to our guest information for future visitors.
It was a pleasure hosting your family, and we hope to welcome you back to Alto Cabin again soon!
Beautiful property, very charming! The spacious guest rooms were very clean and well maintained. Nicely stocked kitchen, and labels on all the cabinets and drawers was a nice touch. The hot tub was the perfect temperature and the fire pit worked great even though the firewood got rained on in the morning. Couldn't be better!
Loved loved LOVED our stay! It was close enough to everything, yet we still felt away from the world (which is exactly what we wanted). We always stay at VRBOs and this was the first one that had a knife set (we aleays bring our own because usually the knives suck). The hot tub was absolutely perfect. Beth was super responsive and helpful. We will definitely be back, hopefully next time with my mom, sister, her partner, and their baby.
