The south bedroom has a queen bed.

Thirty-two years ago, my wife and I built this beach house on the secluded beach of DeBordieu, We have seen turtles hatching, birds migrating by the thousands, calm seas and hurricanes. We have walked the pristine beach with no other soul in sight. There have been breathtaking sunrises and full moons that cannot be described, only witnessed and felt. The soft sound of the waves breaking on the beach has dissipated the stress of work, and when the water becomes angry and the storms and lightning display their fireworks, there is an excitement that revitalizes the spirit. We have found something primeval about the coast and our beach house that not only attracts the physical but also the inner spirit. We hope you also will find excitement and solace here.

The nourishment of the beach at DeBordieu in 2014 - 2015 provides our guests with a beautiful full sandy beach that is directly in front of our beach house and deck that is located on the dunes. You will not find a location closer to the beach. There are many gated communities along the Carolina coast, but without a question the “best kept secret” is DeBordieu Colony. Located just four miles north of historic Georgetown and eight miles south of Pawleys Island, DeBordieu is the southernmost beach community of the Grand Strand. Not only is the community a vacation paradise, but also a wildlife and nature treasure. As you enter the security gate you will travel several miles through a forest filled with deer, beaver, wild turkey, rabbits and other protected creatures. Before you reach the marsh that separates the beach community from the mainland, there is an excellent tennis facility on the right and a championship Pete Dye designed golf course on the left. The golf course was renovated with new greens and other improvements in 2014, and is now one of the premier courses in the country.

About John L. Jackson

My wife and I owned a chain of photographic stores and an audiovisual design and sales company in South Carolina. We were blessed enough to have children and a nice home on a farm near Columbia, SC, where my daughter and son-in-law have horses and cats. We not only enjoy our farm, but a small lake house and of course the beach. I am a Rotarian and a volunteer business counselor with the SCORE organization. We are both involved with our church and community. I enjoy golf, genealogy, art, woodworking, boating, work around the farm, fish and release, and good friends. On evenings I particularly enjoy sitting on our porch with my wife and a glass of wine.

John L. Jackson purchased this house in 1979

Why John L. Jackson chose Debordieu Colony

When my wife and I were at a business conference at a beach near DeBordieu in 1977, we enjoyed the sound of the waves strumming on the shore so much that we decided to search for a place to build a beach house. After a number of visits to different beach locations we happened upon the DeBordieu development. It was in the early stages of being developed and was still in a wild state with wildlife everywhere and dirt roads to the south beach. After being blocked on 'Old Carriage Road' by a large deer, we decided this was the place we were looking for. We started construction in 1978 and had our first stay in our new home in the Fall of 1979. After hurricane Hugo we did a great deal of rebuilding and remodeling. Of course, with a beach house this is an on going pleasure. We also like to explore the historic towns of Georgetown and Charleston. In Georgetown we like to dine at several fine restaurants. Our favorite is the River Room on Front street in Georgetown.

What makes this house unique

Although, most of our guests enjoy the beach in the summer, we find that each season has it's own uniqueness. We always enjoy seeing the birds migrating in the spring and fall, the full moons rising, the glow and reflection of the sunsets, shrimp boats working, pelicans and osprey fishing, walking the beach, all these things and best of all just being still and absorbing the beauty and wonder of nature.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Lee and John.

On behalf of our family, I want to extend our thanks to you for the enjoyment of your lovely beach home for our Mom's 80th birthday family gathering. The home is lovely...the layout was perfect...and the family camaraderie was priceless! We enjoyed long walks on the beach, Low-Country Boils on the screened porch, fresh seafood from Murrell's Inlet, and beautiful sunrises from our bedroom balconies. This home has certainly tattooed a sweet spot on all of our hearts, and we look forward to spending another family vacation there in the future! Again, many, many thanks for accommodating our crew!

Regards, Jan B

Clean, roomy, wonderful porches, great shell hunting, fun nature trail ride in the golf cart, much belly laughter with 15 older women. A house to remember for the peacefulness, views, set up was great, everything we needed was there, and we'd come back anytime!

Simply Special!

  • 5 of 5

The Jackson home is a not merely a rental; it is a unique and welcoming oasis. This is due not only to its listed amenities, but primarily because of its host and owner. The comfortable accommodations allow privacy and guests are able to savor the setting, the spaciousness and the casual feeling of home. This is enhanced by cordial and prompt communications before, during and after our stay and the privilege of enjoying Mr. Jackson’s artwork which adorn the walls. We seven women, who have been friends for 50+ years, have paid the Jacksons the highest compliment possible, having already booked this magical dwelling for next year!

Relaxed Weekend on the Ocean

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay! Highlights were the amazing ocean side screened porch, pool and ping pong tables, and all the comforts of a home away from home!

Also, loved the beautiful watercolors painted by the owner that were displayed throughout the house!

We would definitely visit again.

Recommend highly.

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property for a family reunion and my 70th Birthday party. It was perfect. The four upstairs bedrooms have a balcony overlooking the ocean. Great view to get you going in the morning! Large screened-in porch leading to an open deck and short walkway to the ocean. We had the beach to ourselves in April. Nice floor plan for our large birthday gathering. The garage/basement level is great for games and the golf cart. Mr. Jackson was an incomparable host, very accommodating and personable. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Relaxing Beach Front Home!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 16 (some there for 2 nights most there for 4) had a wonderful Thanksgiving week at the Jackson's perfect beach front house. We loved the quietness of being near the end of the row of houses and the peaceful walking in the uninhabited beach area. We ALL truly relaxed...Having a bathroom with each bedroom makes a huge difference with such a large group. The kids had plenty to do between the pool and ping pong, football games on the beach and of course the family competition to see who could find the most sharks teeth. (Between us all we found over 100!) We all played tennis together at the club and spotted 18 alligators on the nature trail from the golf cart. Adults enjoyed every morning of coffee in the rocking chairs on the deck literally feet from the waves. I would highly recommend and will hopefully be back...Thank you Jackson's for your hospitality!

A wonderful beach-front beach house

  • 5 of 5

My family was delighted to spend a week at this lovely beach house for a re-union and hopes to do so again. The owners were kind and attentive and created a wonderful atmosphere in their home. The home is literally right on the beach which makes it so easy to enjoy time in the sand and water. The location of the house is perfect since it is only a few houses down from a nature preserve featuring miles of uninhabited beach. Every room in the house is a stand-alone suite and has its own bathroom. We loved it. Thank you again.
