House, 6 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 6 Baths, (Sleeps 14-16)

In addition to all the amenities that can be found throughout the beach community you will find many happy times at our beach house. There are 6 bedrooms (not including the owner's quarters). There are two on the main living floor. The beach side bedroom has a queen size bed and a private bath. the front bedroom has a double and a single bed and a private shower bath. Upstairs there are four beach side bedrooms that all have private baths and a door to the outside balcony overlooking the deck and beach. the upstairs north bedroom has a queen bed and a single sleeper couch. This suite is also connected to a separate reading TV room that has a single sleeper couch. The middle north bedroom has a full size and a twin bed. the middle south bedroom has two twin beds. The south bedroom has a queen bed.

Thirty-two years ago, my wife and I built this beach house on the secluded beach of DeBordieu, We have seen turtles hatching, birds migrating by the thousands, calm seas and hurricanes. We have walked the pristine beach with no other soul in sight. There have been breathtaking sunrises and full moons that cannot be described, only witnessed and felt. The soft sound of the waves breaking on the beach has dissipated the stress of work, and when the water becomes angry and the storms and lightning display their fireworks, there is an excitement that revitalizes the spirit. We have found something primeval about the coast and our beach house that not only attracts the physical but also the inner spirit. We hope you also will find excitement and solace here.

The nourishment of the beach at DeBordieu in 2014 - 2015 provides our guests with a beautiful full sandy beach that is directly in front of our beach house and deck that is located on the dunes. You will not find a location closer to the beach. There are many gated communities along the Carolina coast, but without a question the “best kept secret” is DeBordieu Colony. Located just four miles north of historic Georgetown and eight miles south of Pawleys Island, DeBordieu is the southernmost beach community of the Grand Strand. Not only is the community a vacation paradise, but also a wildlife and nature treasure. As you enter the security gate you will travel several miles through a forest filled with deer, beaver, wild turkey, rabbits and other protected creatures. Before you reach the marsh that separates the beach community from the mainland, there is an excellent tennis facility on the right and a championship Pete Dye designed golf course on the left. The golf course was renovated with new greens and other improvements in 2014, and is now one of the premier courses in the country.

About John L. Jackson

My wife and I owned a chain of photographic stores and an audiovisual design and sales company in South Carolina. We were blessed enough to have children and a nice home on a farm near Columbia, SC, where my daughter and son-in-law have horses and cats. We not only enjoy our farm, but a small lake house and of course the beach. I am a Rotarian and a volunteer business counselor with the SCORE organization. We are both involved with our church and community. I enjoy golf, genealogy, art, woodworking, boating, work around the farm, fish and release, and good friends. On evenings I particularly enjoy sitting on our porch with my wife and a glass of wine.

John L. Jackson purchased this house in 1979

Why John L. Jackson chose Georgetown

When my wife and I were at a business conference at a beach near DeBordieu in 1977, we enjoyed the sound of the waves strumming on the shore so much that we decided to search for a place to build a beach house. After a number of visits to different beach locations we happened upon the DeBordieu development. It was in the early stages of being developed and was still in a wild state with wildlife everywhere and dirt roads to the south beach. After being blocked on 'Old Carriage Road' by a large deer, we decided this was the place we were looking for. We started construction in 1978 and had our first stay in our new home in the Fall of 1979. After hurricane Hugo we did a great deal of rebuilding and remodeling. Of course, with a beach house this is an on going pleasure. We also like to explore the historic towns of Georgetown and Charleston. In Georgetown we like to dine at several fine restaurants. Our favorite is the River Room on Front street in Georgetown.

What makes this house unique

Although, most of our guests enjoy the beach in the summer, we find that each season has it's own uniqueness. We always enjoy seeing the birds migrating in the spring and fall, the full moons rising, the glow and reflection of the sunsets, shrimp boats working, pelicans and osprey fishing, walking the beach, all these things and best of all just being still and absorbing the beauty and wonder of nature.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Lee and John.

On behalf of our family, I want to extend our thanks to you for the enjoyment of your lovely beach home for our Mom's 80th birthday family gathering. The home is lovely...the layout was perfect...and the family camaraderie was priceless! We enjoyed long walks on the beach, Low-Country Boils on the screened porch, fresh seafood from Murrell's Inlet, and beautiful sunrises from our bedroom balconies. This home has certainly tattooed a sweet spot on all of our hearts, and we look forward to spending another family vacation there in the future! Again, many, many thanks for accommodating our crew!

Relaxing Beach Front Home!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 16 (some there for 2 nights most there for 4) had a wonderful Thanksgiving week at the Jackson's perfect beach front house. We loved the quietness of being near the end of the row of houses and the peaceful walking in the uninhabited beach area. We ALL truly relaxed...Having a bathroom with each bedroom makes a huge difference with such a large group. The kids had plenty to do between the pool and ping pong, football games on the beach and of course the family competition to see who could find the most sharks teeth. (Between us all we found over 100!) We all played tennis together at the club and spotted 18 alligators on the nature trail from the golf cart. Adults enjoyed every morning of coffee in the rocking chairs on the deck literally feet from the waves. I would highly recommend and will hopefully be back...Thank you Jackson's for your hospitality!

A wonderful beach-front beach house

  • 5 of 5

My family was delighted to spend a week at this lovely beach house for a re-union and hopes to do so again. The owners were kind and attentive and created a wonderful atmosphere in their home. The home is literally right on the beach which makes it so easy to enjoy time in the sand and water. The location of the house is perfect since it is only a few houses down from a nature preserve featuring miles of uninhabited beach. Every room in the house is a stand-alone suite and has its own bathroom. We loved it. Thank you again.

A Great Debordieu Beach Rental

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Jackson Beach House for a birthday celebration. The home was clean, well maintained, and accommodated all 13 of us with no problem. Mr. Jackson was very cordial and even called me to wish me a happy birthday. The kitchen was fully equipped for families, the screened porch is great if you want to stay out of the sun and still enjoy the outdoors and comes in handy if it rains. Each bedroom has it own bathroom which my guests loved. I would definitely recommend the property to family or friends that are looking for a beach rental. Thank you Mr & Mrs Jackson!!

Beachfront Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We discovered the wonderful Jackson Beach House "gem" several years ago; the first stay exceeded our expectations, and the following years' experiences have been equally satisfying! While we actually loved sitting by the former seawall, we have now returned from our late September visit where we were able to enjoy the recently renourished beachfront. Wow! We were able to take just a few steps from the deck, and "Voila!"...you're on the beach!! The location is perfect; the house is very close to the end of the beach that is an "uninhabited" wildlife preserve -- an amazing place for shelling and tranquil beach walks. The house itself is truly a home; it's very clean with an attractive and charming decor, but comfortable and inviting! Each bedroom has a bathroom; a huge plus! The large screened porch is a great respite from rain or bright sun that still offers incredible views and space for family and friends to gather! The Jacksons are very attentive, treating you like their personal guests as opposed to "renters." The setting always revives our spirits; we have traveled to many coastal communities, but the Jackson home and its lovely DeBordieu location is our favorite!! We feel privileged and blessed each time that we stay here, and look forward to many more visits! We also find the rates to be a great value for what you receive! We really don't have enough writing space to extol all of the virtues of our experiences here! Thank you, Lee and John!

Jackson Beach House

  • 5 of 5

My family has stayed in this house for our annual reunion for the past 3 years and have already reserved the same week again for the coming year. We have loved every minute of each stay. The house is very clean, comfortable and attractive, with adequate sleeping space for all. We like that it is not too formal or elegant and we felt at home immediately. Our 10 year old granddaughter summarized our feelings describing it as 'casual'.

The layout is nice, with the kitchen being centrally located and with a view of the beach. It is adequately equipped for family use.

The owners, Johnny and Lee Jackson, are extremely cordially and attentive and go to great lengths to insure that their renters enjoy their time there. They called us on our arrival to be sure every thing was satisfactory and to give us their number to call if any need should arise. (Two small repair items were reported on one of our visits which were immediately taken care of the following day after a phone call to the owners. One was a small tear in a porch screen, the other a minor plumbing problem.)

In our estimation you just can't beat the location with a wide and uncluttered beach just outside the screened in back porch. The house is on the south end of DeBordieu, a beautiful gated resort area with literally miles of uncrowded beaches. A few yards walk south on the beach is Hobcaw Barony, an uninhabited wildlife preserve with likewise secluded and beautiful beach. Traveling north in the other direction either by bike, golf cart, or by foot takes you to a very nice beachfront swimming pool with outside bar and sandwich pavilion. Non property-owner renters can use all this for a one time weekly household fee of $20.00, a real bargain in my estimation.

Our children and grandchildren also love the pingpong table and pool table is the basement of the house.. This year a family pingpong tournament was enjoyed by all and will become an annual event for us.

We heartily recommend this house for a family or any one whole longs for a restful time in a beautiful setting.

Beach House

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our extended family! Each bedroom had its own bathroom, and we had enough bedrooms and beds for us all. The pool table and ping pong tables in the basement were perfect for rainy afternoons and for the kids (24-29) to hang out. The golf cart and bikes were a great plus too! I appreciate the hospitality John and Lee! It was close enough for my husband and son to be able to work a couple of days and run home to feed the dogs. My family from NC and Tenn loved the house, the golf course, and the security of the Debordieu area.
