About this space
Privacy, history and rest. This 1 bedroom cottage has a stocked kitchen & bath as well as a bunk beds in a sleeper sofa. Step next-door and tour the nation's oldest outsider art museum, the home and art environment of Women's Rights Trailblazer, Laura Pope Forester. Whether staying for business, a relaxing getaway or a destination stop, this guest house will give you the best of both worlds. Located on 6 Acres, surrounded on 3 side by forest there is lots of room to enjoy the environment or run your dogs in the fenced acreage beside the cottage.
The space
Pope's museum is the oldest self-taught art museum in Georgia and the southern USA. The guest house is next store. This WPA house was once the night watchman house at the Roddenberry syrup plant. Moved here decades ago it is now part of the Pope's Museum property which has been placed on the National Registry of Historic Places in the categories of Art and women's history

Included is a stocked kitchen, a washer and dryer, stand up shower, full length couch and a 2nd couch that is also bunk beds, and more.
Other things to note
Chickens are on site, if possible fresh eggs are shared with our guests, and pecans are available for "u-pick' when in season. Owner operated and on site in home/museum located on same 6 acres.

Turn off the lights, lock the doors, and return the keys
Leave used linens, etc. on kitchen floor. Garbage can stay in the can, but please pick up trash if there is any on tables etc. Thank you for staying with us!
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
Absolutely no smoking/vaping of any kind inside house. Porch is permissible.
No underage drinking or illegal activity. This is a family friendly site with onsite security by a law enforcement professional.
Pet owners must clean up all mess and provide for their animal safely. Damage to property must be accounted for by renter.

Pope’s Museum Cottage is a welcome cozy respite in the most beautiful setting of the exquisitely manicured grounds of the historical landmark. My pet was so at home at happy to run in The enormous fenced area available, especially after a long drive.I so enjoyed learning about the history of the museum… and meeting the owners.I look forward to visiting family again and the opportunity to stay in the cottage again! Christmas at the museum

We stayed at Pope’s cottage during Christmas of 2024 while we were visiting family in the area.The cottage was as advertised. It was clean, comfortable, & the outside was decorated beautifully for Christmas.We loved the tour of the grounds & learning the history of Laura Pope Forester. Dan and Michelle Dean moved just over the FL/GA border to South Georgia with their two youngest children in 2018. They have restored the Museum, the Guest Cottage and the historic gardens according to the state and nation's highest preservation standards. They are stewards of the works of Laura Pope Forester and this historic site and enjoy assisting guests in their hospitality needs.

Why they chose this property

This property is located in rural area where farming and fishing go hand in hand in this area. The natural habitat includes wild birds of many sizes and species as well as deer, rabbits and more. We love fields of "Georgia snow" (aka cotton) and groves of pecan trees throughout the area.

Unquestionably, Pope's Museum and the cottage is more than just an overnight accommodation; it is a destination. Be sure and schedule a tour of the entire grounds and learn why the U.S. National Park Service lists it as a feature destination for lovers of art, women's history and U.S history.
