Central Jersey celebrates 4 seasons, with summer serving as the travel peak. The beaches are packed from June through August, and finding a Monmounth County vacation rental in summer can be tricky. For visitors in the spring or fall, expect comfortable days and chilly nights, especially down by the sea. The beaches are practically empty in winter, save for the locals who still enjoy a stroll on the sand... often with their dogs, who are allowed on certain beaches in the off-season. Expect a dump of winter snow, and plan to bundle up from November through March.
From rolling hills down into crashing waves
Aside from a few rolling hills, Monmouth County is mostly flat, right down to sea level. Here, locals enjoy fishing along the Atlantic Coast, and in the rivers and bays that flow into the Raritan and Lower New York Bays. The Manasquan Inlet connects the Atlantic with the Manasquan Estuary, a saltwater body that leads into the Intracoastal Waterway. The 50-plus miles of beaches offer plenty of wildlife dotting the sandy shoreline, and dolphins can often be spotted in the summer months while seagulls fly overhead nearly year-round.
