About DeeAnne Hunstein
We purchased our beautiful country home when our children were young and needed an escape from New York City. We bought at a auspicious time, as we were able to afford a gracious estate with a 17th century home and much land in a sleepy little New England town, which later became a favorite destination for the wealthy and famous. It was also a center for artists, which both my husband and I are, he is an acclaimed photographer and I am a singer. We have continued to maintain our NYC residency but prize our Sharon home for family reunions with the grandchildren and the beautiful gardens I cultivate.
DeeAnne Hunstein purchased this Chateau / Country House in 1978
Why DeeAnne Hunstein chose Sharon
The area is crammed with arts activities and outdoor sports opportunities. Other favorite activities include antiquing, fine dining, and going to art galleries and summer music festivals. The area is now active all year round and doesn't die down after the summer residents depart. And best of all, it is an easy and pleasant drive or train ride from the city.

Everything and more!!!
Absolute perfect home in the perfect location. My only wish is we get to stay a few weeks later so we can see the incredible garden in full bloom. The home is lovely and you can tell immediately of the rich history of its owners. Thank you for your kind hospitality. We look forward to coming back very soon!!!!
We would be very happy to host you again sometime soon, so you could enjoy some of the things you didn't have time for because of the wedding, like the hot tub, the ping pong table and the barbecue. You could also spend time at our lovely little lake.
Clean and Comfortable
My family and I stayed here for a family gathering, and the house was perfect for our weekend getaway. Plenty of bedrooms, living areas, and great location for a relaxing vacation. I would recommend for larger familes and groups of friends.
Nice house, great location, easy rental
This is a nice old house just a few minutes outside of Sharon center. Caretakers live on site and are very friendly. They do their best to leave renters alone except when needed.
Our only comment is that the owner was concerned about us bringing kids and furnished a long list of house rules and things not to touch. We have certainly stayed in nicer rentals and never really been given such a list. This part was a little off-putting. Personally, if I were so concerned about my things, I would either not rent the house or remove those items.
Nevertheless, the weekend went off without a hitch. Coordination with owners/ caretakers was easy. What little time we spent on the property was enjoyable. We would come back and we would recommend to others.
The Shahid family were wonderful renters and seemed to have enjoyed our house. Except for some dirty towels and bathroom rugs, they left the house very clean and neat. The refrigerator was spotless. We usually do not rent to families with more than two children. These two families had five young children who were to be watched by a babysitter while the parents were at a reunion. Fortunately they were able to bring a grandmother along to help, which made me feel more comfortable. The house is our second home and has recently been expensively renovated with no view to renting it. For this group of six adults and five children, we did feel that we had to make up some rules to assure that no expensive repairs or cleaning would have to be charged back to the renters. One spilled soda on the $2000 couch could have cost them hundreds in cleaning fees. Thus no food or drink outside of the dining areas. I'm sorry they felt this was oppressive. We enjoy sharing our beautiful house and hope the renters enjoy it too.
The house was beautiful and well equipped for our family. The caretakers live in guest quarters right next to the house and you can hear them when you are in the kitchen. They were very nice. Beside that this house is a great find!
Relaxing Weekend for a Family of Five
We loved our stay at Fair Rising! The house is a charming old farmhouse but we were pleased to find it has been impeccably maintained and is spotlessly clean. The house is great for families - there is even a charming little bedroom with a cozy play nook. The caretakers were lovely and helpful - especially when we city slickers could not figure out the flue on the fireplace! The house is well situated near Sharon Green yet very private and up a quaint dirt road. We would recommend this house for anyone looking for a quiet, relaxed getaway with their family.
Sharon is a classic New England town with a town green and surrounding 18th century architecture. The area is noted for its historic preservation with a museum of the Historical Society. The town is surrounded by beautiful farms, once dairy farms, but now mostly horses and exotic cattle. The Appalachian trail crosses the town lines and the Housatonic River cascades down the eastern edge of the township, where there is white water kayaking, canoeing and fly fishing. Our property has trails through our woodlands and cross country skiing across our meadow. There is plenty of room for various ball games and croquet on the lawn. It is a four season resort area with plenty to do at any time of the year. There is indoor swimming and tennis in the winter as well as all winter sports outside. Under the ancient oak there is a beautiful lawn just right for a small wedding or other ceremony.
