Well appointed condo in a safe interesting area.
This is a lovely spacious upstairs condo with two good sized bedrooms both with comfy mattresses. The property is very clean and well maintained, with attractive decor throughout. There is a good double headed shower with plentiful hot water. The kitchen is well appointed. There is a good modern cooker as well as micro wave oven- a few more dishes/ bowls would be welcome - but I suspect that many clients do little cooking whilst they are staying. The owner provided a generous supply of mini milks, jams sauces and sugars/sweeteners. There is a pleasant deck at the back with table and chairs for outdoor eating/relaxation- although we were there in september there was a heatwave so it was very welcome!
We loved Verdun! Melrose is a quiet street but just around the corner is an eclectic, diverse neighbourhood with a range of restaurants supermarket and bottle shop. As a massage fan I have to mention IKRA spa two blocks away which provides a range of treatments 6 days a week. Ask for Samira she was excellent!.
Re transport you are a ten minute walk to the subway - buses around the corner if needed- with a frequent service taking around ten minutes to downtown Montreal. No need of a car.
Have to mention the cycle tracks which are all around the city - as a cyclist from London UK- I am so envious particularly of the routes which take in the glorious scenery around the canal and river. We hired our bikes from the friendly and efficient Ma Bicyclette two subway stops away near Charlevoix and did a half day 30 km ride around the Lachine canal, a wonderful water side sculpture park and returning via the St Lawrence river. It provided the highlight of our trip.
Wendy was a fantastic host. She replied very promptly to our initial inquiry and then to subsequent questions. We were very pleased to be able to pay our security deposit in sterling as we were heading home after Montreal. All instructions pre our visit and in the condo were very clear. She was great to deal with throughout as was her lovely mum who met us and showed us around on arrival. We shall definitely return to Montreal and look forward to staying here again.
Beautiful condo in a fantastic neighborhood.
Wendy's condo was stylish and lovely, with two comfortable bedrooms and plenty of space for a family of three to enjoy a full week in the Montreal area. The care taken with design detail was evident, and the back deck was breezy and a great place to spend the late afternoon. The block is friendly and full of families, and street parking was ridiculously easy.
Wendy went out of her way to provide information on the area, and had several useful recommendations about activities and restaurants, most of which we took. The neighborhood of Verdun was a great home base with easy access to the Metro, but also a huge array of restaurants of all kinds. At the end of a long day of activities, we frequently found ourselves back in one of the restaurants close to the condo.
It's also extremely close to the beautiful waterfront park and the bike path, so we rented Bixi bikes and rode for several miles toward LaSalle, which I'd recommend. We also hiked up Mont Royal, visited Vieux Port and several museums, went to the exquisite Botanic Gardens and extremely crowded Biodome, and took a drive to the countryside to visit some small towns.
We would definitely return to this condo and recommend it to others visiting the area. Cozy, pretty, well-equipped.
Comfortable, Clean, and Near Metro
My family of four enjoyed our stay at this condo. Upon our arrival, our host was very gracious and helpful, even though we arrived later than expected and screwed up the deposit (twice) and we were clearly interfering with her evening plans. The apartment has rather steep exterior stairs, which didn't bother us at all. It is comfortable, tastefully decorated, and clean. We rent houses fairly often and I've never stayed in a house that was so organized (brochures, metro maps, instructions for appliances, a bin of condiments in the fridge, etc.). The kitchenware was plentiful and clean. There was a jar of fresh ground coffee on the counter. The metro is a short walk as is a bus stop, a great café, and a street of restaurants. Street parking was free and easy - we got a spot directly in front of the apartment. It's a packed neighborhood, but also very quiet. The neighbors were friendly. The only reasons why I didn't rate it as 'Excellent' are as follows: I thought it strange we were not able to adjust the temperature, which is controlled by the owner. During the day, we were away. We spent our last night rather hot, with all the fans running. Since the deck opens to the bedroom balcony and is accessible from the yard, we didn't feel comfortable leaving the door open in the night. Also, and I recognize this is subjective, I have never slept on a harder bed. The second bedroom is seriously firm, but the Master Bedroom bed feels like a board.
I`m sorry to hear you had some issues during your stay that I would like to address... I strive to provide a pleasant stay and have always responded immediately to issues that arise during a guest's stay when informed. It should not have come as a surprise that the thermostat was locked, it is clearly indicated in the rental agreement you initialed and signed, as well, right beside the thermostat, the instructions are posted and starts by saying that if you need temperature adjustment to email owner. The night in question was a cool 66 degrees, your 3 night stay was the same average temperature.
You are right, everyone has a personal preference and different comfort level. The mattresses are firm, but had you told me, I could`ve provided you with a mattress topper to make you comfortable.
No worries about the late arrival, after a lot of ice cream, my son has forgiven me for missing his soccer game.
I do appreciate your feedback and thank you for taking the time write a review.
A Perfect Place
If you are looking for that perfect place to stay while visiting Montreal, this is it. This lovely apartment/condo is on a second level and located in a quiet neighborhood away from the big city. The street parking is free and we were able to park right in front. The Metro is only a short walk away and we took advantage of it the whole time there. This place is very spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated. Wendy was waiting for us when we arrived and was very friendly. She had many tips on visiting Montreal and was happy to share her travel expertise with us. She made sure to tell us if there were any issues or we needed anything to contact her right away. We had a wonderful time in Montreal and after long days of sightseeing, coming back and relaxing on the deck was a welcome treat. The beds were very comfortable and the double headed shower was absolutely heavenly! We would definitely recommend this place. Thank you, Wendy, for wonderful time!
Wonderful visit to Montreal, via Verdun!
Great location, wonderful apartment, close to the metro (Subway). Lots of parks nearby for our kids, and the bike path is also close at hand. The neighbourhood was very quite and lots of shops and restaurants close by. Would stay again, and highly recommend it for anyone going to Montreal, as Verdun is close to downtown without all the noise and rush. Wendy was great, we were well received and the apartment had everything we needed.
Wonderful location and superb apartment. We enjoyed walking along the river, only a block away!
