About the host
Hosted by Paul Johnson
Kia ora and welcome! I’m your local host here in beautiful Wānaka — one of the most stunning alpine towns in Aotearoa New Zealand. I feel incredibly lucky to call this place home, surrounded by mountains, lakes, and world-class outdoor adventures.
Hosting is something I genuinely love. It’s not just about offering a place to stay — it’s about helping people feel truly at home while they explore everything Wānaka has to offer. Whether you're here to hike iconic tracks like Roy’s Peak, relax by the lake, sample our local food and wine, or hit the slopes, I want your stay to be smooth, warm, and memorable.
As a long-time skier and local, I know the ins and outs of both Cardrona and Treble Cone — from which runs to hit first on a powder day to the best spots for a cheeky hot chocolate. I’m more than happy to share tips on gear hire, transport, snow conditions, and where to find the best views (or the least crowded carpark!). Whether you’re a first-timer or an experienced rider, I can point you in the right direction.
The property itself is one I’ve thoughtfully set up with guests in mind — modern, warm, and just a 5-minute walk to the lakefront and town centre. I’ve had the pleasure of hosting families, couples, adventurers, and remote workers from all over the world. Guests often tell me how much they appreciate the little details — fast WiFi, comfy beds, heat pumps in every room, and the quiet, tucked-away location with easy access to everything.
I’m here if you need anything — from local eats to last-minute ski wax — but I also respect your space and want you to relax and make the place your own.
Outside of hosting, you’ll find me in the mountains, skiing in winter, biking in summer, or enjoying a sunset stroll along the lake. It’s a special kind of life here — and I hope you’ll love it as much as I do.
Ngā mihi nui and see you soon in Wānaka!

Why they chose this property
I chose this neighbourhood because it offers the best of Wānaka — it’s peaceful, central, and right next to Lismore Park, one of the town’s hidden gems. The park has stunning 360° panoramic views over the lake and mountains, and it’s a brilliant spot for a walk, a picnic, or to catch the sunset. Plus, it’s home to Wānaka’s popular disc golf course — great fun for all ages and totally free to play.
You’re also just a few minutes’ walk from the lakefront, cafés, shops, and bike trails, which makes it super easy to explore without needing the car. I love how the area feels both relaxed and connected — perfect for everything from quiet getaways to full-on adventure holidays.
