Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

Pelican House is situated on the Osa Peninsula, an area of Costa Rica that has remained remarkably untouched – a nature-lover’s paradise. We are right on the water, very private and romantic. Most days, when you walk the beach, you'll feel that you’ve been dropped on a deserted island. Pelican House offers uninterrupted ocean views from every room, the gentle lull of the surf day and night, and a calm, warm ocean just 200 meters away. The house is open and airy, with floor to ceiling louvered doors, and a soaring cathedral ceiling. Wild parrots, scarlet macaws and howler monkeys are the first sounds of the morning. You’ll awaken to spectacular sunrises over the Gulfo Dulce (Sweet Gulf)... and then you'll have to choose from the endless beauty and fun that the Osa has to offer. Of course, you can always opt to stay home and nap in the hammock between dips in the ocean...

Low-impact...Living Off The Grid: We believe in living lightly and are off the grid, completely solar-powered – even the fridge. There are six ceiling fans and screens on all the louvered doors. Our kitchen is open, airy and fully equipped. Each of the two spacious bedrooms has an ocean view.

It’s a perfect setting for a honeymoon – romantic and private. It’s also perfect for a small family or two couples. The bedrooms and two private baths are separated by a large, open great room. On the best beach in the Osa - Pelican House is great for kids (and great without them!)...

It's perfect for adventurers - or hammock potatoes: A beautiful, pristine beach is steps away. World-famous Corcovado Park is only a short drive, as are a few of the world’s most celebrated ecolodges. Hire a guide and tour the park, take a zip line through the canopy, sign up for a dolphin tour, take surf lesson, or hire a private boat to carry you to the wildlife rescue center across the Gulf. Here you can meet many of the Osa’s unique animals: howler monkeys, toucans, scarlet macaws… Or just veg at the house and swim between naps in the hammock. The beach is sandy, and the water is warm and gentle. The bird watching from our deck is great: scarlet macaws and flocks of parrots regularly grace the sky, while kites and local hawks hunt for prey in the nearby pastures. Because we are completely solar-powered, you can feel good (or at least better) about your carbon footprint!

Utterly Private - but convenient: Although remarkably private, we are only 10 minutes from the small town of Puerto Jimenez where you’ll find a vibrant community, choice of grocery stores, a handful of good restaurants and even internet cafes. We love walking 30 minutes down the deserted beach to The Pearl of the Osa restaurant to enjoy a first-class meal! You can rent a car in town, rent bicycles or simply take taxis when needed.

Please note that either e-checks or Paypal are preferred.

About Allison Argo

I am a wildlife filmmaker and Jim is an artist (he designed Pelican House). When we vacationed on the Osa 8 years ago, it was love at first sight!

We live on Cape Cod when we're not in Costa Rica. We care deeply about the natural world and doing all we can to protect it.

Allison Argo purchased this house in 2007

Why Allison Argo chose Cantón Golfito

The Osa is still untouched. It is a nature-lover's paradise.

What makes this house unique

We love to unplug and settle into our natural surroundings. We love to cook our meals at home and swim at least once a day. Watching wildlife is always a favorite pastime. It's a great place to read and write. Quiet and inspiring.

Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5

This home is beautiful, it has everything you could want or need (even a monopoly board for when the sun goes down!). The location is perfect for exploring the Osa Peninsula. Very close to the town of Puerto Jimenez for groceries, gas, bank and amazing pizza. Allison gave us many excellent recommendations for things to see and do in the area, and she was absolutely delightful to communicate with! The beach is incredible - beautiful and deserted most of the time. Having stayed in other parts of the country, what makes this house truly special is the diversity of wildlife and plants. Nothing is better in this world than having coffee on the deck, watching the sunrise, and listening to amazing sounds of the world around waking up. There are Scarlet Macaws nesting on the property and flying overhead, green parrots, 2 types of monkeys...there is a leaf cutter ant super hiway on the way to the beach complete with an elusive anteater! So many amazing bugs and lizards. We did have to escort a few spiders out of the house, but only for the ick factor, they are harmless. The property has so many amazing fruits and nuts growing on it. This is a place to reconnect with nature, slow down, watch, listen, and have some cool adventures too! We will definitely be back.

Secluded beachfront gem

  • 4 of 5

The Pelican House is a special place situated as close to the beach as you typically can be in CR. We often had the beautiful beach to ourselves. The property is good proximity to town where we enjoyed several wonderful local restaurants. It’s also the perfect location for traveling to visit Corcovado. The home was appointed with all we needed. The only reason we’ve rated it a 4-star is that it could use some maintenance & clean-up. That aside, we truly enjoyed the wildlife & adventure that the home and area offered. Rafa, the caretaker, is truly special- his care & generosity were beyond expectation. If truly being immersed in the beauty of CR with some adventure mixed in is your thing then look no further than this gem of a home.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for staying with us, Eric! I'm so glad you had a lovely time. I realize that our little piece of "paradise" is a bit rough around the edges. I'll try to make that clearer in the listing. Again, I'm so happy you had a wonderful time and enjoyed the house, Rafa, and the area! xAllison

Very comfortable home in remote region

  • 5 of 5

This home is simple but very comfortable. We enjoyed the nearly deserted beach which is just a few hundred yards from the house. The caretaker doesn't speak English but is lovely.

Perfect place to decompress

  • 4 of 5

From the moment we entered the home, feeling the ocean breeze, and hearing the abundance of LIFE outside the louvered doors, we knew we had arrived in a magical place. On our first day, we spotted squirrel monkeys, a toucan, and a group of scarlet macaws. Just amazing.

Our internet and phone service did not work at all at the house, which was a good thing. Each day was beach/hiking/exploring weather, each night, a light and sound show of thunder and lightning. Spectacular.

Highly recommend this home and/or the area of Puerto Jimenez for a relaxing getaway.

Incredible house in paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We had an outstanding week at Pelican House. From the very moment we arrived, we soaked in the relaxation and tranquility of this amazing house. Rafa was incredibly welcoming and arrived the first morning to show us the monkeys that hang out near the property. The beach is absolutely stunning, and the access to wildlife is incredible. While at Pelican House we did a day hike in the Corcavado National forest with a super knowledgeable guide as recommended by Allison (Osaadventura). We also hiked up to a waterfall with Rafa and his daughter, Suyen, which we would never have found on our own. Such a treat! There were a number of great experiences throughout our week… walking to the Pearl for dinner (although, skip Friday night unless you like buffets ), cocktails on the porch, the seafood restaurant in town, walking the beach at night to see the crocodile’s eyes from the lagoon and the great coffee at the Coffecina (directly across from the BM. Allison was incredibly helpful when planning our trip, and we truly couldn’t have enjoyed this house more. Thank you for sharing your piece of heaven with us! We hope to be back again!

Wonderful property with wildlife all around

  • 5 of 5

The house was very nice. Rafa, the caretaker of the house was exceptional. He was our personal guide pointing out different wildlife including monkeys, toucans, scarlet macaws, etc. If you walk to Pearl de Osa, be careful...we were greeted by a 6+ ft crocodile on our walk back to the house. Private beach, clean house, it was wonderful!

Map

Car: recommended

Pelican House is located in a gloriously unspoiled area of Costa Rica: the Osa Peninsula. The property is only ten minutes from the small town of Puerto Jimenez; it is utterly private but more convenient than properties farther from town. It is a 50 minute flight from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez -- or a 6 1/2 hour drive. You can rent a car in Puerto Jimenez -- or hire taxis. You can also rent bicycles. There is LOTS to explore in the Osa (rain forest trails, zip lines, bird or monkey watching, deep sea fishing, surfing, horseback riding) but once you see Pelican House you might not want to leave... !...
