Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-5)

Ideally suited for exploring Kingston and the Thousand Islands, the cottage is an 1860s home that was fully renovated in 2011.

The cottage is set on the main street of Marysville, Wolfe Island, the first and biggest of the Thousand Islands. The cottage sits just steps from the summer Ferry dock in the village and enjoys the summer buzz of the seasonal cottagers, ferry traffic, and local restaurants and entertainment. Srping, fall and winter, the village is quieter with the 'islander' traffic, and occasional community event or festival.

The quaint Victorian cottage look and wrap around porch is maintained on the outside, while the inside is finished in white-washed wood for an east coast cottage feel. The front porch is south facing, perfect for people-watching from one of the wicker rockers. Or you can take your place on the upper balcony off the master bedroom and keep an eye on the ferry line up and the lakeside activity at the same time. The waterside deck off the dining room overlooks the large yard and dock with great sunset views and the twinkling lights of Kingston at night. Those are the same great views you get from almost everywhere inside the house.

Downstairs, the kitchen, dining and living room co-exist in one open space. The living room includes a sofa that converts to a double bed. The kitchen is fully equipped including full sized fridge, range, microwave, coffee maker, kettle and toaster as well as all necessary cooking and serving dishes. The upper floor includes a master bedroom with a queen sized bed and attached balcony. The other bedroom has two twin beds, ideally suited to children. In both rooms the beds are set up to make the most of the lake views. The bathroom upstairs has a corner tub, perfect for a relaxing soak or kids' splash.

The city of Kingston and all it has to offer is just a 20 minute ferry ride away. On the island, there are two 9-hole golf courses, biking routes, and a superb and secluded sandy beach. Less than a five minute walk from the cottage are three restaurants, the bakery, general store, liquor store, library, post office, bike rental and the ferry to the mainland.

Property rental includes use of a kayak, canoe or rowboat.

About Carolyn Wiens

With a passion for boats and swimming, our vacations all tend to lead to the water. When we renovated, we aimed for the feel of a cottage on the coast of Maine, overlooking the boats in the harbour.

Carolyn Wiens purchased this cottage in 1997

Why Carolyn Wiens chose Ontario

We bought the home in run-down condition because of the fabulous location and boat access to the lake. Although the home is a mere 3 minute walk from our permanent residence, we use the cottage as a peaceful getaway and waterfront playground.

Absolutely perfect. Loved every minute!

My mom and dad were visiting from Calgary and I wanted to give them a feel for Ontario cottage life. We loved the cottage so very much! It was hard to leave. It's so very clean and absolutely perfect. Carolyn was a delight to communicate with. I will most certainly return!

Great spot. Lovely cottage.

Had a great weekend at the cottage. The free ferry back and forth from Kingston makes it easy to travel. The cottage is only 4 houses down from the ferry dock and you can see it coming in (makes leaving on time easy). The cottage had everything you need for an enjoyable weekend and the bakery across the street was awesome. Would love to stay again on warmer weekend so we could enjoy the dock and water. Thanks again!

Lovely Cottage in the heart of Marysville

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely March Break stay. Convenient location. It is easy to walk to the store, the school playground, and right on the lake. Great views of Kingston at sunset and at night.

Resort-quality Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Our week-long stay at Marysville’s Little Blue Cottage was like a Caribbean resort vacation, and we loved every minute of it! The beautiful whitewashed wooden boards and vibrant blue/green décor throughout the cottage’s interior was so relaxing and easy on the eyes. There is a large back deck with outdoor dining table / chairs plus a barbeque for dining al fresco, and an enormous well-shaded backyard with a lush lawn leading to several Adirondack chairs near the shore and dock for reading and sailboat-watching. Every morning, we did a coffee run to the funky new Café Tenango down the street and then darted across the road to get sticky buns from the Wolfe Island Bakery. But one of Wolfe Island’s best treasures is its little-known Big Sandy Bay beach, barely a 15-minute drive away. This gorgeous white-sand beach, fed by Lake Ontario, has shallow, clean waters, a sandy bottom, buoyant waves and plenty of breeze to take the edge off a hot, sticky day – as much fun as anything we’ve encountered during trips south, minus the salt water! We also took in a church supper, did a Taste of Wolfe Island tour of local farms, were awed by the island’s almost otherworldly (and quiet) wind turbines, and scooted over to Kingston to shop and dine there, since we could easily head down for a free ferry ride, given that the ferry runs constantly. The cottage owners were extremely helpful, and kindly arranged for me to catch a ride on a sailboat during the community’s weekly Family Race Night, after I had enquired about sailing opportunities. I highly recommend the Little Blue Cottage, and miss it already.
