This property is perfect for a large group. It was clean and ready and stocked with the essentials. Despite a recent hurricane, it was in great shape. Gorgeous for a historic property nestled in a small town community where people walk around and leave your stuff alone. And the front porch is amaxing great to hang out in the evenings and early mornings!!!

Ideal Location for a Large Group
Walk to beach, pleasure pier, restaurants. In the historic housing area. Close to the Strand. Large front porch always picks up a breeze. Rudy great to work with.
Stayed with friends for the beach blitz on East beach. Short drive to the beach. House had plenty of room and worked out great for our families. We all drive large vehicles so parking had to be plannned but not an issue.
This property was a great place to host our 13 family members for two days while waiting on our cruise to begin. We used this quaint flipped home for sleeping primarily. It was a close walk to the Galveston food district and beach. We never truly used the kitchen because other family members had booked a VRBO with pool, game room, outside activities for children and adult alike. This property has a very small yard space and limited parking. The manager of this house was very responsive after we contacted the owner requesting a date change.
Great spacious house. Very clean. Fantastic location. Be aware: The upstairs bath is a deep step to get into. The upstairs bedrooms were a little warm, but the fans made them adequately comfortable.
The house was beautiful and just one block from the seawall. The beds were the most comfortable we've had at a rental. The plumbing had hot wayer with great water pressure. The living areas were large and well set up. The extras, like baby equipment, chairs, etc. were very nice. We're listing this as our preferred house for future vacations. Everything met or exceeded our expectations.
Vintage century old house is very roomy, long steep stairs to second floor, nice big porch, great location only a couple of blocks from Murdock’s and trolley stop. Owners live nearby and provide prompt response to any needs. (Air conditioner downstairs went out and was restored less than an hour after we reported it.)
It is very obvious that the house is old but we enjoyed it!
The only problem we encountered is not being able to find the remote for the living room tv but we had music with our Bluetooth speakers.
The neighbors are a bit rowdy at night.

Annual Family Getaway
I would like to start by saying the only reason I did not give five stars is because it was an older home and some things could be updated. We had a family of 15 and we all fit comfortably. The home is within three minutes walking distance to the beach and Pleasure Pier. It is conveniently located to Schlitterbahn as well. Everything was just as the pictures also. There were enough items to cook at home as well as other items needed. I would definitely stay here again.
We had a large family group and this home has tons of space. I really like this place for kids because there are not any breakable decor items and plenty of floor space for play. The front porch seems to almost always have a breeze. The all of furniture and beds were comfy and clean. The kitchen was nicely stocked. The refrigerator is a little small, but we used a cooler for overflow and it worked out fine. The location is within walking distance of stores, restaurants and the seawall.

3 minute walk to beach
If you are a group of adults in need of a big place and like older historic houses a little rough around the edges close to the beach, pleasure pier and restaurants and entertainment than this a great location. The owner was attentive and easy to work with. For a lively bunch who enjoys fight night(the couple next door puts on a show), people watching and talking to unusual strangers on the front porch, this will fit the bill. Overall, we had a great time being together as a family and did our best to ignore the peculiar neighbors. Hopefully they won’t be there long as the owner mentioned they were working on evictions.

Tricia, thanks for bringing this nuisance noise issue to our attention. The offending noisy neighbors have been evicted and recent guests are enjoying a more comfortable stay at our home. We appreciate you comments and are working on improving our guests stay at hour home.

BEWARE!!! Filthy house...Rude host...Do not stay!! BEWARE!!!
One block to seawall, three blocks to pleasure pier, immediate contact with filth and insults. After arriving at the house we quickly realized that we could not stay due to the amount of filth on the walls, furniture and in the kitchen, several of the beds were not made from the previous tenants. The cleaning person did make an appearance...he jimmied the lock on the back door and broke in moments after we arrived, I am guessing he was the one frying bacon and smoking cigarettes in the house shortly before we arrived. He had broken back in because he'd forgotten "some of my food in the refrigerator." The front door was completely unlocked when we arrived, at which the cleaning person appologized profusely. This made my family feel uneasy, coupled with the general filth we reloaded the car and spent the rest of our vacation at a very nice hotel.
The host would not give us our money back and has been very insulting. He said we have "Howard Hughes type cleanliness standards and that cleanliness is relative." among other insults.
BEWARE!!!! DO NOT RENT THIS PROPERTY!!!!

Lowell and his party did not rent my home through VRBO and they must have spent considerable time finding my listing here in order to post this review. I didn't know you could do that and I don't think it should be allowed.
Lowell's group arrived at my home an hour before the normal 3 pm check in time and entered the house while it was still being cleaned. Jim, the highly reputable owner of the cleaning service that I and several other home owner's use, had stepped out to get supplies. He was gone about ten minutes and came back into the house without realizing that Lowell was an hour early. Jim doesn't need to break into my home. He has keys and I expect him to be cleaning my home before the 3 pm check in time.
I simply do not believe there is any basis for any of the statements in Lowell's review. The allegations about cleanliness and feeling insecure just don't make any sense to me.
Delivering a quality experience is my primary concern and there are many four and five star reviews on this web site and others that testify to our past successes in providing enjoyable vacations for our guests. Rather coincidentally, the review immediately below is from the guests who left on the same day and 2 hours before Lowell's group arrived. Jack and his family would like to return to my home next year. I hope he does and if you should decide to rent also I am sure you will have a very enjoyable stay as so many others have.
I welcome a call or email if you have concerns and would be happy to provide references from previous guests or references for the reputation and professionalism of Jim my cleaning service owner.
House is very big and spacious and walking distance to everywhere.

"normal" mice
First, the location is amazing & all of the instructions provided were very detailed with great suggestions for local stores/restaurants. The house is spacious & yes, old, but our own house was built in 1930 so we appreciate the character of old houses. On arrival Wed evening we noted an exposed electric outlet in the sitting room. We have young kids so ok, put the dog kennel in front of it to block it, make a note to let the owner know & hurry to make dinner. The pots/silverware had dried food on them, no biggie we thought, we usually wash before use anyway but note a trend forming. We clean up head to bed & clean the wall due to the amount of accumulated dust above the headboard (purple room). In the morning we discover an army of ants all over the food on the counter. We're frustrated now but determined to focus on the positive. The rest of the day was great, we thought the kinks were all out after spraying the provided ant spray. Evening comes, we're sitting in the dinning room when my 65 y/o mother frantically rushes in from the back bath after watching a mouse scurry over the washer/dryer while going potty. That finally pushes us over the edge, we email the owner regarding these & some other issues that I can't even list here due to space. He quickly responds with several excuses & offers a refund that wouldn't even cover the cleaning+service fees. We're so upset we ask to sleep on it to respond outside the veil of anger. We explore the island the next day, get back the kids rush in to grab some chips, as we come in to help the youngest we see chips all over the floor, we remind them to be careful/not make a mess & see that chips are falling out of the bag the little one is currently eating from. They are eating out of the same bags the mouse has already been in. Another email & response stating this is a "normal" problem & another small refund offer as we basically just have a difference in opinion on what's an acceptable level of safety/cleanliness. Some other "opinions" we had, an arm chair & dinning room chairs with a broken leg, bed propped up with a book, ceiling fans with exposed wiring, smoke detectors that did not appear to be functioning(we tested after all of the electric concerns), a gaping hole at the bottom of the backdoor that could deter the "normal" occurrence of rodents if fixed. Most reasonable people expect at a minimum clean and safe accommodations which this house does not meet, I would caution

The Thousand Dollar Mouse
Melissa's artfully written 500-word essay seems to be motivated by concern for future travelers. She says she is advising caution because we misrepresented unclean and unsafe conditions in our home. We believe that Melissa may be more interested in punishing us rather than cautioning others. We refused to meet Melissa's "bottom line" demands for a one thousand dollar refund on the next to last day of her four-day rental. During her entire stay in our home, Melissa never requested us to fix, repair, or even view any of the problems about which she complains. She endured cleanliness issues, including the appearance of a mouse, along with numerous additional cleaning, disrepair and health, and safety hazards. We were first notified of the cleaning problems in her first email sent late in the evening of the second day. Melissa did not email us again until the evening of her third day. Although cleanliness was her only concern in the first email, Melissa now accused us of failing to provide an "accurate description of the property". In addition to repairs to blinds and lamps, "There are exposed wires and exposed outlets". "There is not a single smoke alarm in the house." Melissa now demanded close to a thousand dollar refund because ..."not only is the property grossly misrepresented but there are significant health and safety concerns". For an hour we tried to decipher and understand the extent of Melissa's grievances, particularly about unsafe wiring and missing smoke alarms. Then we got the third Melissa email "I need to correct the smoke detector statement....my husband asked me to include that but. .I did find the smoke detectors". At that point, we decided to end our discussions with Melissa. We simply did not believe that she was fairly representing the conditions in the house. Melissa and her family stayed through the fourth and final day of their rental and left on the following check-out day. We have confirmed that the smoke alarms were never missing and worked properly. The dangerous wires from the ceiling fans are connected properly and safely to the circuit in the ten-foot high ceiling. On two fans (of five) the decorative covers over the ceiling holes have moved enough so that the wires are partially visible. This is not a safety issue even if you were tall enough to reach the wires in the ten-foot-high ceiling. The outlet that Melissa says she covered with a dog kennel does have a plastic cover that seems to have been pried off and then placed back on the outlet box at some time in the past. The cover appears safely attached when viewed from a distance but it can be easily removed from the outlet box. It did need to be replaced with a secure cover. The minor repair issues she mentioned have been completely fixed. We don't think we were unfair in refusing Melissa's financial demands and we think she exaggerated cleaning and repair issues and completely invented safety issues that did not exist. The guests that stayed in our home for a week and left two days before Melissa arrived left this comment in our guest book..."thank you for seven days of memories that will last a lifetime". We hope you will be reassured by these guests and others who have been generous with five-star reviews.
The house is 2 blocks from Murdoch’s and the sea wall/beach. House is older but with updates to common areas. Upstairs rooms has 3 (comfortable!) queen beds and library and sunroom had twins. All upstairs rooms had a/c window units that kept the rooms comfortable and blocked all outside “noise”. Downstairs central a/c was a champ and LOTS of common space. Love it!
It was a very wonderful experience we had for our first time family mini vacation in Galveston, would definitely try it again
