Overview

About the property

Lovely Cottage Under the Oaks is Close to Everything

This cozy studio cottage is nestled on a private lane in the heart of Arden Park/Wilhaggen, two of Sacramento's most desirable neighborhoods. It is centrally located and within easy walking distance of the American River and its wonderful bike trail. CSUS is 5 minutes away, a 2 mile straight line down Fair Oaks Blvd. where you'll also pass a picturesque 9-hole golf course bordering the river. Downtown Sacramento and the state capitol are about five miles, also on the Fair Oaks/J St route. There are dozens of restaurants within a one-mile radius, from exceptionally fine dining to great local greasy spoons and everything in-between. There is also a Whole Foods about two miles away.

The cottage is a quiet place, about 500 square feet in size, cozy and well-appointed. It's nestled under numerous tall oaks and next to a green belt. When you are there, it is hard to believe you are in the middle of a bustling city.

The fully-equipped kitchen has a four-burner stove, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, Cuisinart coffemaker, mixer and toaster. Also included are dinnerware and flatware, linen napkins, a variety of pots, pans and bakeware, candles, wine glasses and a selection of spices and oils.

The double french doors open to an expansive redwood deck under a canopy of oak trees in this rustic setting, courtesy of the green belt which is complete with a seasonal creek below. It's perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine or dining al fresco under the stars. The deck has a table, chairs, and lighting and, if you're lucky, an evening view of the family of wild turkeys that has been hanging around for generations.

The cottage typically stays very cool due to its location under the trees, but has an oversized central heating and air unit to insure your comfort any time of year.

Comcast is our cable and Internet provider and the Hi-Definition Digital service includes HBO, Starz, Encore and other premium channels.

The walls are adorned with classic Fillmore and Avalon Ballroom posters and handbills and other music-themed art. A selection of books, including many about music, music art and the music business are also on hand.

The queen-sized bed comes with down comforter and pillows. A futon or hi-profile aerobed is available for a third person, also upon request. There is an iron, an ironing board and a hair dryer.

The tiled bath has a shower with shampoo and soaps.

There is a front-loading washer and dryer. We keep laundry detergent on hand.

The cottage includes a covered carport. There is also usually ample additional parking available along the lane.

The cottage is truly centrally located. There is easy access to Hwy 50 to Tahoe and the Foothills where more than 100 wineries abound; I-5 leads north to Lassen and Shasta or South to the San Joaquin Valley; I-80 to San Francisco, Napa and the Redwoods and Highway 99 to the levees of the expansive and wondrous Sacramento Delta, including the historic levee towns of Locke, Walnut Grove and Isleton.

About Mike Farrace

I am Mike Farrace, Berkeley-born and a Sacramento resident since 1972. I grew up in Antioch, Ca., and worked for Tower Records for almost 30 years, publishing Pulse! Magazine and creating and managing Tower's towerrecords site and direct to consumer businesses. My full-time gig now is selling rock art and photography which can be found in abundance in my VRBO dwellings. I am very excited to be doing this and enjoy it very much. I like learning and improving so, please, do not hesitate to comment or ask questions. I will respond promptly and enthusiastically. I want to be a great host and will make sure you are happy and satisfied.

Mike Farrace purchased this cottage in 1997

Why Mike Farrace chose Gold Country & High Sierra

Even in my college years I lived near this neighborhood and wanted to buy here. In 1997, I found the right deal and that became a reality. It's a fantastic property -- full of trees and drama, great light, a stone staircase and creek, really interesting and fun. It is secure and very private, yet close to great restaurants and grocery, a library, quality retail, golf and excellent public schools. As you will see, it's a special place.

What makes this cottage unique

We're committed to offering a great experience to our lodgers. I am always be available to see to it that you will be 100% satisfied with your stay.

Great space

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the small cottage while other family members rented the bigger house next door. We had our own bathroom, dinning table and kitchen area. Great for us, fits 3 comfortable, and we could go back and forth to the bigger house while still having our own privacy.

Mike responds very quickly to emails and was available during our stay if we needed him. Would definitely come back! Thank you Mike!

Cute Cottage Great Location

We very much enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Very pretty setting, safe neighborhood and close to Sac State, shopping and restaurants. The owner was a pleasure to work with. We would definitely stay here again.

Absolutely perfect for our needs in every way - an incredible find!!

  • 5 of 5

We were visiting Sacramento from England to see our eldest grandson and his wife who emigrated to the U.S. last October and were living with her parents nearby.

We wanted a place, which was not a hotel, not a Bed and Breakfast but where we could enjoy being with them after their days work and as a base for weekend day trips.

This woodland cottage was very comfortably furnished, had excellent facilities and a very peaceful , 'upscale' environment .

The owner Mike Farrace provided excellent detailed information about everything we might have wanted to know about finding the cottage, local shops, restaurants, and all our other potential needs/interests. Quite the best we have had from any place we have stayed all over the world in our holidays/ travels!!

A 'magic' place which contributed hugely to a very happy time with our family. Thank you Mike

GREAT

Last of multiple stays. Great space, perfectly suited to one but two would also do well. Location is near perfect for access to all of Sacramento. Impeccably maintained. I plan to stay again

A wonderful weekend retreat at the cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the cottage for our visit to Sacramento over marathon weekend (California International Marathon). We truly enjoyed our stay. Mike had left a bottle of wine, coffee, tea, etc. for us to enjoy. The kitchen was full stocked for everything we needed (including salt/pepper/olive oil). The cottage was cute but more than enough space for what we needed. The location was perfect --> close enough to downtown and about a mile from a beautiful biking/running path. Our only complaint was that the bed was a bit too soft, but all the positives of this VRBO experience outweigh this minor negative. Thank you Mike!
