About Susan Brunner

Following years of studying, working and traveling in France, we are complete Francophiles hoping to retire to Burgundy in the future. Our daughters both love France too, and although still at school and university, spend as much time as possible working with us to ensure that the rentals at Rue Montmeix are everything you could want. Sometimes we will be there to welcome guests, but on the occasions we are not, we have a wonderful local manager to look after you. The most enjoyable thing is sharing recommendations of wine and food between our guests and recommending local attractions.

Susan Brunner purchased this house in 2011

Why Susan Brunner chose Burgundy

After years of wanting to buy in France, we had decided on the wine villages of Burgundy as our favorite location. We wanted to be in one of the prime villages of the area, with easy access to beautiful Beaune. Unable to find property to rent of the quality we required over the years, we were thrilled to find the house through a local firm of property designers and builders - although needing total renovation we fell in love with the charm and peace of numéro 6 immediately, totally won over by the stone, woodwork and fabulously peaceful views.

What makes this house unique

Rue Montmeix is truly our piece of paradise, which we love sharing! Uniquely positioned only 150 metres from the village square and all its amenities (2 bakers, great butcher, small supermarket, kitchen shop, Tabac, three or four restaurants and 50 vignerons!), the two houses that we rent out have been newly renovated from the beautiful stone winemaker's barn that our house (yet to be renovated!) is part of. The houses are calm and quiet, light and cool in summer, and warm and cosy in the winter, with some amazing stone walls and a beautiful oak frame, all carefully renovated by local master craftsmen. They face south, with a small vineyard in front, a newly reclaimed one being planted to the right, and views up to the vine-covered hills.

The outside space is huge, especially for a wine village - each house has its own parking space, lots of privacy and its own outside bbq and eating area. In addition, the two rentals share a luxurious decked area, boule court area, and top of the range hot tub.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Could not be better! In the middle of a delightful village with plenty of nice shops and good restaurants. Delightful, newly decorated in immaculate condition overlooking a vineyard. Very spacious. This property has everything you could wish for, a splendid very well equipped modern kitchen with every amenity. The large living room was so comfortable with a wide screen TV which tuned into English speaking channels. The DVD player and DVDs were a nice treat.

Upstairs the bedrooms both have comfortable king sized beds and large bathrooms en suite. One bathroom has a large walk in shower.

The outside patio has lounge chairs, hot tub, bbq grill, and table with a very nice space for outdoor meals or just lounging. Cannot imagine finding a nicer rental. Being in a smaller village made using our car much easier.

Our week here was a fabulous experience which we hope to repeat soon.

Paradise in Meursault!

  • 5 of 5

My wife, 2 daughters just spent a week staying in this tasteful luxurious home. We stayed 3 years ago and loved it so much we came back for a 2nd visit! Susie furnishes the home exquisitely and tastefully. Light, bright and cheerful. A two minute walk to the center of the village. Perfect getaway to relax, explore and of course....eat and drink!

Can't wait to return!

  • 5 of 5

Despite having spent a lot of time in France, this was our first visit to Burgundy ( with our two 20-something children). It won’t be our last, and we will never stay anywhere else! Absolutely no complaints, except that we hadn’t planned a longer stay. Everything was first rate. First, the views, from the beautiful garden and all the windows – so lovely and peaceful. Then the house itself: despite record heat at the time of our visit in July, the thick stone walls made it a welcome refuge. With beautiful furnishings, delightful personal touches and attention to detail, the overall effect was one of charm, comfort and calm. The gourmet kitchen (kindly pre-stocked with a few essentials) makes you want to cook; the master bedroom is a peaceful retreat with a fantastic bath, and everything was so clean – have to admit I really loved that part! The hosts provided countless thoughtful touches - I’ve never been in a rental property where I felt so much a guest instead of a client. Susie was a delight to meet, and an excellent resource on the area. She also responded quickly to any inquiries before and during the stay.

As others have noted, the location is the best of both worlds – a quiet, scenic village right on the bike path, and yet so close to Beaune and countless other villages and vineyards waiting to be explored. A la prochaine visite!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your lovely review - and looking forward to seeing you again. You are right, the biggest complaint we get is people didn't stay for long enough - there is so much to see in the area. A la prochaine!

Incredible property in the most charming Burgundy town

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at over 12 different VRBO/HomeAway properties in the past 8 years. This was our favorite. The house #1 is spacious, beautifully decorated, and completely outfitted with every possible thing you could need. Beds, very comfortable, bathrooms, large and spacious, kitchen made you want to cook. But, best of all is the extremely large deck overlooking the vineyard and the hills of Meursault covered in vines. We spent every evening in various parts of the deck listening to the birds chirp and taking in the vast view of Meursault, Vilnius, and Pommard. Equally impressive we're are hosts Susan and Andy, originally from GB, now living in Frace and Portugal. Gracious, accommodating , and a lot of fun. We asked them to join us for some Champagne and we enjoyed their stories and company very much.

Meursault is the perfect jumping-off place for Burgundy. Ten minutes to Beaune, 40 min to Dijon, and many great Burgundy wine villages all within 20 min. The town has 4-5 restaurants, 2 boulangeries, fish and meat market, fresh veggies store. Everything you need is less than a 5 min walk.

Better than I could have ever hoped for

  • 5 of 5

My mother, husband, toddler and I had the most magical stay at House 1 last week. The setting is even more beautiful than it looks in the photos. It will take your breath away and you can see it from literally every window. The house has been impeccably renovated with modern conveniences while maintaining the charming old wood beams and stone walls. Susie has thought of everything her guests could ever want for a pleasant stay. I have never stayed in a more well-equipped, clean or beautiful rental house. We were so relaxed and blissful our whole stay. The two bathrooms are huge - one with a lovely soaking tub, the other a luxurious shower. The very short walk (even with a stroller) into town is incredibly convenient. Both boulangeries in town are delicious. We had a great meal just off the town square (which is charming). We rented bikes in Beaune (including a baby trailor) and rode through several of the small wine towns, stopping along the way to try wine. The house is actually on the wine bike trail. The drive to Beaune is an easy 10 minutes and it is a lovely town. We ate and drank very well there. I could not possibly recommend this place more and am so thankful to Susie for her guidance and responsiveness.

Amazing House in the Middle of the Vineyards of Meursault

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the house with my parents and my husband for one week in early March. We absolutely loved the house and would highly recommend it. It was very comfortable for two couples. The bedrooms were spacious and had king sized beds and the bathrooms were good sized as well. There was plenty of room to relax, a great kitchen and dining area, and a wonderful patio overlooking the vineyards complete with a hot tub. The house is a two-minute walk from the beautiful village of Meursault. We loved staying in a small village over staying in a bigger city like Beaune. Meursault was a great place to access all of the famous wine towns in Burgundy. To top it all off, Susan was very helpful in giving tips and always responded to our questions promptly. If you visit Burgundy, you must stay here!

Feels like home

  • 5 of 5

Our group of two couples enjoyed a fabulous 5 night stay in one portion of this beautiful stone house in Meursault, a stone's throw from wineries and fabulous restaurants. The "house" we stayed in was by the far the most well equipped of any rental I've experienced over the last 10 years. No detail has been overlooked - from kitchen cooking utensils/pans, to luxurious towels and sheets. The owners have gone out of their way to ensure that you'll feel right at home from the moment you enter. Our house had two master bedrooms, each with an ensuite. The only "interesting" quirk of the house is that there is no partial bathroom on the main floor near the family room and kitchen. The outdoor garden area has also received the full treatment with a large comfortable seating area, gas bbq and, wait for it....a hot tub. Unfortunately for us the hot tub was closed in late October, however this simply means we need to head back in the spring so we have a chance to use it. The owners are responsive to all enquiries and accommodating to requests. They couldn't have been kinder. We had a fantastic time in this area of Burgundy - the house is perfectly situated to explore the region from top to bottom within easy driving distances. There are also hiking and biking trails near by, loads of great restaurants and, of course, any number of wineries.
