About the Property

Gorgeous 3 Room-Suite with upscale furnishings and outstanding mountain setting

The Lodgings at Roaring River Vineyards (RRV) - the hidden gems in the NC mountains. Located just two miles from Stone Mountain State Park, in the Yadkin Valley Wine Appellation in the heart of NC Wine Country, home of the Blue Ridge Parkway, the NC foothills, and overlooking the Roaring River as far as the eye can see.
The Lodgings are comprised of several vacation rentals consisting of Aspen (437203)
the unit you inquired about, Birch (437950), and the Serendipity Cabin (513211). These are located on a vineyard estate reminiscent of a French mountain Vineyard on the banks of the Roaring River. There are not too many units that can boast having all that in one place!
This historic place was inhabited by the early settlers to the mountains, but also paleolithic people who roamed this land 8,000 years ago. The most recent people built a gristmill (on the right side of the river), a sawmill and the miller's cabin on the other side of the river, both were operated by a dam that was destroyed during a large flood in June 1940.
Although built recently, every effort has been made to preserve the history of this amazing place. The Miller's cabin dating back to 1793 still stands near the vestiges of the sawmill. From the Aspen unit you can see the remains of the dam on each side of the mountain that fed the ancient gristmill (now the future site of our wine tasting room due to open January 2016).
Aspen is a 3-room unit (1 bedroom with office area, 1 bathroom with tub and shower, a large closet, and an open room that holds the living room, dinette area, fully equipped in-suite full size kitchen, with stainless steel appliances, and equipped to cook standard meals. There are also items such as spices, coffee, oil and vinegar that are on hand at all times. TV with premium channels, WIFI, and wrap around porch that offers amenities such as: rug covered sitting area, a bistro set for two a bistro table, individual BBQ grill and fire pit, and while sitting there, literally six feet from the bluff that overlooks the river. Enjoy this lovely setting while having coffee or sipping a glass of wine while listening to the sounds of the Roaring River as it rushes down from Stone Mountain. This sound is so calming and relaxing and draws you in.
We have included many amenities inside the unit as well as outside anticipating our guest's needs and comfort. The furnishing and linens are of nice quality, and attention to detail is evident. There are also a number of attractions on the vineyard property such as: private fishing, private riverside beach, with table and lounge chairs, lawn games (croquet, horseshoes, bocce ball, corn hole toss). There also additional building that offer an alfresco sitting area near an outdoor fireplace - this is a common areas where guest can mingle together and socialize over a glass of wine or roasting S'Mores (yes, there are roasting sticks for that purpose, wood, and a lighter just awaiting your presence. Least but not last, we are in the process of building an in-ground spa, with a wrap around deck (projected completion date: end of October 2015).
The private fishing takes place on our ponds and on a stretch of the Roaring River that is private - only the owners and guests are allowed to fish there. Fishing is catch and release, using barbless hooks. The river has trouts (brown, brook and rainbow trouts) as well as small muth bass. The ponds have bass and bottom feeders. The overall setting on the mountainside vineyard and riverside accommodations are just magnificent. All the vineyards in the area have bragging rights about one thing or another but you will have to travel far and wide to find everything that we have to offer on this particular vineyard and that is what makes is so special. Other vineyards may have a river but you might have to hike to get to it -- not here -it is in your backyard. Some vineyards only have a wine-tasting room. We will be opening ours very soon, but in addition to that, we also have tan event venue, and a number of accommodations. With a few more planned in the near future. When you consider all our property has to offer we are destined to become a destination point as word gets out about us. When people realize where we are located -- near one of the most visited parks in NC. Stone Mountain State Park receives 800,000 visitors each year. We are in the heart of NC Wine country, in the Yadkin Valley Wien Appellation. For the last three years we have been making wine and building up our wine inventory to prepare for our Wine Tasting Room's Grand Opening.

We will be open year round for our vacation rentals and wine tasting room. The outdoor event venue will be open from from April 15 through October 31st.

We are the hidden gem in the NC wine country surrounded by magnificent views all around.
… in your backyard, yet a world away from it all!

The main lodge has three rental units: Aspen, Birch and Cedar
Aspen (437203)/ Birch (437950) are 3-room suites located on the first floor of the main lodge. Each suite has a bedroom with a Queen size bed with a small office area, 1 bathroom, a large closet, and an open area with a kitchen, dinette area, and living room. The kitchen has standard size SS appliances and the necessary equipment to make meal preparation a cinch even for the gourmet cooks among us!
The rustic décor is elegant and sure to please. All units come with WIFI, Premium TV Channels, and an outdoor grill.
The covered patio has a bistro dining set, an outdoor settee, and private fire-pit. Imagine yourself having a candlelight diner or sipping a glass of wine while admiring the beautiful mountain vistas and listening to the sounds of the Roaring River as it flows by just a few feet away from you. Yes, it is that close! It just doesn’t get better than that!
The amenities are so numerous that this vineyard is becoming a destination in and of itself. There is a private beach, a swim hole, private fishing on the river and in the ponds. There is also bow-hunting in season. There are a number of lawn games such as Bocce Ball, Corn Hole Toss, Horseshoe Pits, and Croquet. Another fun activity is to picnic amongst the grapevines, or for that matter, anywhere on the 50-acre vineyard estate.

Note: The Cedar Unit – is a two-story unit that is currently occupied for a long-term period. When it becomes available it can be rented as a single unit. There is the potential of renting all three units (the entire lodge) for special events.

There are many festivals in the area: Merle Fest takes place the 3rd week in April, wine festivals also abound in the region many taking place in May. Winery offer music and food events. We have two wineries within a few miles: McRitchie Winery & Ciderworks, and Jones Von Drehle Winery and very soon we'll open the doors to our very own wine tasting room! But son't wait until then, come and check out our vineyard as it stands today and come back many times to see all the changes that are taking place over time.

There are a number of historical sites in the area as well as fishing, canoeing, hiking, biking, For full details, photos, and actual testimonials from our guest book, visit our VRBO and read our guest reviews.

The cabin is situated in Traphill, NC on the banks of the Roaring River, inside a picturesque vineyard estate named "Roaring River Vineyards," in a beautiful natural setting, just three miles from beautiful Stone Mountain State Park (NC), close to the Blue Ridge Mountains and scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. Bird-Watching, wildlife observing, and foliage viewing are popular activities. Year-round fishing available on stocked private ponds (no-license required), and bow-hunting on the private estate. Arrowhead hunting is also a great pastime - we recently found an Indian arrowhead dating back to 8,000 perfect condition. There are many idyllic spots perfect for a picnic: among the grapevines, along a babbling brook, or on the banks of the river. Or you can lounge on a sandy beach along the river, and relish the tranquility of the place, or just cool off on a hot summer day in the refreshing water of the river. And last but not least, experience the great wines produced around us, in the Yadkin Valley Appellation, at numerous wineries on the NC Wine Route. There is an event venue ideal for weddings, receptions, rehearsal dinners, family reunions and business events. Lodgings available during Merle Fest and other events.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2011

About the owner: Josephine speaking: I was born in France of German parents, and moved to the States when I was 15 years. Graduated from San Jose State University with BS in Business Administration. I worked for IBM for 17 years, and was transferred about every 3 years to a new location, including oversees assignment in Tokyo, Japan for 3 years. After that, I worked in Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) at First Union Bank (now Wells Fargo Bank). My husband and I now live on our vineyard. Tom Silvey's Speaking: I am from Harriman, TN and grew up on my beloved mountains, overlooking a beautiful lake. I graduated from Le Tourneau University with an Engineering degree, and have been working for Westinghouse which later became Siemens. I had to work on numerous projects which required extensive travel abroad (China, Japan and in Europe). I developed a taste for traveling and was happy that Josephine loves traveling as well. Josephine and I met in Charlotte and got married in 1993. Both of us were married before so we blended our children into our new family (Josephine‘s daughter and my two daughters and son). We are now empty-nesters, but the family keeps growing with the addition of grandchildren, three grand-sons, and a grand-daughter so far and another on the way. Since acquiring the vineyard, we have traveled extensively to wine growing regions to develop our knowledge of viticulture and enology. Our knowledge must include best practices used, not only in our region, but also in other parts of the world.

Why the Owner Chose Traphill, NC, USA:
The setting of this property is gorgeous and reminiscent of French riverbank hillside vineyards. We knew we had a gem as soon as we saw the property, and soon after that the dream was born. We wanted others to discover what we had found, an area rich in history, of moonshine and NASCAR, close to Stone Mountain State Park, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and dotted with many wineries along the NC Wine Route. People come here from all over to enjoy the foliage in fall, to hike, fish, hunt, and partake of all the things the region has to offer. We are in the country but close to both Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Charlotte and to the VA border.

The Unique Benefits at this Lodge:
You have the opportunity to stay in an upscale apartment located on on a 50-acre estate, at the Roaring River Vineyards. You enter the property through an elegant stone entrance, with two fishing ponds on each side, and see the vineyards going up the slope in front of you. You drive to the apartment situated on the river bank, literally just feet away of the Roaring River. The three-story home has a two-storywrap-around porch that offers great views of the river, the grist-mill ruins, and the 'The Gathering Place', an event venue that can be rented or for use by the guests when they rent all the available rental units. The beauty of the setting slowly registers with you, as you take in the view. You hear the sounds of the river cascading over large boulders, and the next thing you know you’re fishing and hoping to catch that “prize winning” trout. If you are not in the mood for fishing you might decide instead to relax on the sandy river beach, catch-up on some reading, cool-off in the river or picnic amongst the grapevines. Nature lovers will enjoy the sightings of the abundant wildlife. You can do whatever you want when you are here. You can just relax or you may want to engage in as many activities as the region has to offer, it’s up to you! One of the benefits of being on a private estate is that you can fish on our private ponds year-round without a license. We also allow bow-hunting on our grounds. For those of you “wannabe” grape-growers, you can pick the grapes at harvest time or help crush grapes. We are open to that! Who knows, there may be a budding winemaker among you! We have our own attractions on the estate such as skeet-shooting, archery, target practice and many other lawn games: horseshoe, croquet, bocce ball, and corn toss.
