Grandes-Carrières Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible Bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 4)

Tucked away on a quiet street in the village of Montmartre in the 18th Arrondissement of Paris, this charming one-bedroom apartment makes the perfect home base for couples or families for your Parisian holiday.

The apartment is located in lovely Parisian 19th century residential building. Walk less than 15 minutes to the Sacre Coeur basilica, and along the way enjoy cafes, restaurants and boutiques which abound in this typically Parisian neighborhood. For families, you can walk to the neighborhood park at Square Carpeaux in less than 2 minutes, and we will happily provide a baby travel crib and/or lightweight stroller for you as well - just ask!

Tall French windows in the living room and bedroom open from this bright flat onto the building’s inner courtyard, eliminating the distraction of street noises.

Recent renovations have transformed the space into a cozy, inviting haven that will be a peaceful retreat after a long day of sightseeing. Everything has been carefully chosen to best accommodate our guests.

The spacious MASTER BEDROOM is furnished with a king-sized bed (160cm). A decorative corner fireplace adorns the bedroom. A large armoire provides plenty of space to store your belongings.

The LIVING ROOM has a fantastic sofa bed, which offers families versatility, converting either into two single beds or to one double bed.

The wall-to-wall bookcase opposite the sofa holds a DVD player and flat screen TV and plenty of books and DVDs to browse through. The TV has cable television with a few international news channels in English. The storage unit in the bookcase also provides additional space for those sleeping in the living to store their belongings.

If you're here to work or study or just want to catch up with friends and family back home, you can easily stay connected via the internet with our high-speed connection on our Mac computer or use your own computer or phone to connect wirelessly. The phone offers FREE international calls to many countries, including the US, Canada, Australia and Western Europe. Please ask for details.

A small DINING AREA separates the living room from the kitchen. The table can be expanded on both sides to give plenty of room to happy diners.

Our custom-built open KITCHEN, is both classy and efficient, with its granite countertop and beautiful wood finish. The kitchen includes a refrigerator with freezer area, two burner stove, clothes washer, and a combination oven/microwave. Clothing can be dried on an air drying rack. The apartment also has an iron, ironing board, hair dryer and alarm clock.

Off of the living room area is a small-yet-functional BATHROOM with shower, toilet and sink with a mirror. It's a truly Parisian experience to see how we make do with small spaces! The apartment shower has hot water on demand and good water pressure.

For foodies, this is a perfect NEIGHBORHOOD in which to go shopping “à la française”. Visiting the cheese shop, the butcher and the green grocer is French tradition! But don't worry - you'll find plenty of modern supermarkets, too. The apartment’s location is within a short distance of rue Damremont’s boutiques, “fromageries” (cheese shops), “boulangeries” (bakeries), and “patisseries” (pastry shops). It's also a quick walk to Avenue de St. Ouen’s daily outdoor food market. Rue Ordenare offers a twice-per-week market just a 2-minute walk from the apartment, and the lovely rue de Poteau (10-minute walk) also offers a daily market street. Whether you choose to prepare your meals yourself or to partake of the many restaurant offerings, you can be sure to find your heart’s desire in this neighborhood. Savor the possibilities!

About Paula Caballero

This property is managed by Paula Caballero of Frenchy Rentals. Here is the owner's story of how she came to purchase the apartment: After living in Paris for three years with her two daughters, Barbara and her husband decided to buy a pied-a-terre so they could return regularly. Lively Montmartre was an easy choice! Barbara loves being close to the Sunday market on Avenue St. Ouen and the excellent cheese shop and green grocers there. For weekday croissants, she prefers the bakery on the corner of Carpeaux and Lamarck, but for a special treat, she suggests Patisserie Vaudron at 4 rue La Jonquiere, near Guy Moquet.

Paula Caballero purchased this apartment in 2004

Why Paula Caballero chose Paris Arr. 18 (Montmartre, Sacre Coeur)

When Barbara bought the apartment, she was attracted to it because of the airy bedroom, its attractive old fireplace and the large windows opening onto the building's courtyard. In 2004 when she purchased the apartment, there was a very small living room, a very small kitchen and a tiny hallway. When you opened the front door, you faced a wall. In 2004, right after she bought it, she had the wall between the living room and the kitchen removed. Then in 2008, she had the hallway removed and built a new kitchen. She loves the new open-plan kitchen and living room. She had the bathroom tile changed--walls and floor -- and a new shower installed. Now she feels the space is as efficiently used as possible and she is very happy with all the changes she has made to the apartment. And she hope visitors will find it comfortable, too!

What makes this apartment unique

Barbara enjoys the ease of this neighborhood, with everything close at hand. Once a week, she enjoys a Thai massage at Siam Lanna at 95 rue Lamarck. She enjoys lunch at Les Sapeurs on the corner for a good value, and on Friday nights, she walks around the corner on rue Etex to Le Tropicale for live music and a light supper. Barbara also recommends Wepler at Place Clichy, a classic, historic restaurant for fresh oysters and seafood, and she always eat at least once at Bistrot Melrose.

Cozy

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is exactly as depicted and described in the listing. It was clean, cozy and we'll equiped. Paula even provided a travel crib for our infant. The location was a convenient from the Sacré-Coeur, a grocery store, two bus lines and the metro. The apartment didn't have a lift but since it's on the first floor (one up from ground level) it wasn't difficult to get to with all our luggage.

Paula was very welcoming when we first arrived, showed us how to use all the appliances, and providing us with a local map indicating where stores, restaurants, bus and metro lines are. Paula made the booking process super easy, and when we had an issue with the shower drain Paula was quick to respond despite leaving for her own vacation.

I would definitely stay here again if we return to Paris. Thank you Paula for helping us enjoy our visit to Paris.

Wonderful apartment to live like a Parisian

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location and comfortable apartment! I stayed in this apartment with my husband and 2 children (6 and 9) for a week in late May. The apartment is small, but incredibly well laid out and well appointed. The apartment was immaculate. We had absolutely everything we needed for a 1 week stay for a family. Yes, the bathroom is tiny, but well laid out and worked for us. The sofa beds were comfortable and easy to use. The clothes washer was very helpful as our small suitcases were running out of clean clothes! Paula even provided laundry detergent for us to use. The coffee maker was easy to use and Paula provided us enough coffee for a few days. The apartment was well located, an easy walk from the metro and bus stops, and just a block from all the market shops you need like fresh meat, cheese, bread, fruits and vegetables. You are really in a Parisian neighborhood and feel like you are living like a Parisian. The building was very nice and I always felt safe in the neighborhood around the building, even late at night with small children. There is a great playground just a block away. Paula was wonderful to work with. She responded to all of our questions promptly and gave us easy directions to access the apartment on the first day. She spent some time with us welcoming us to the apartment and making sure we knew where to find everything and how to operate all of the appliances, sofa bed, etc. Paula provided maps and brochures for Paris tourist highlights, as well as some neighborhood suggestions near the apartment. We would definitely stay here again if we visit Paris again and I will recommend this apartment and Paula to friends wanting to visit Paris! Thank you for a wonderful stay Paula!

Rue Carpeaux Gem!

  • 5 of 5

Delightful apartment - just on the outskirts of the tourist beat of Montmartre.

Loved the situation of this place, quiet and with a suburban feel, but still close to Montmartre and all she has to offer. Loved the free calling to land lines in NZ - which was wonderful. Would definitely stay here again.

Lovely cafe's close by and great spermarket at the end of the street.

Super apartment, very well appointed and extreamly comfortable bed. It did have the worlds smallest shower.

Again Paula provided the best book of facts on Paris I have ever seen - her "Compendium" is to be admired.

She is the most wonderful host.

WOW!

  • 5 of 5

“Wow!” has been the word for this trip! That’s what I said as soon as I walked into Cozy Carpeaux, and I've said it a great many times since. First of all Paula is fantastic, and I should no longer be surprised that a rental from her is going to be spectacular. The apartment was spotlessly clean, tastefully appointed, and perfectly set up for a home away from home. As always with Paula’s apartments, I didn’t feel like I was staying in someone else’s home; I felt like I was in my own beautiful home.

The apartment has windows both onto an inner courtyard and onto another open-air enclosed space. Street noise is minimized while still being able to get cross ventilation throughout the apartment. When a nearby school is in session, you can hear the sounds of children playing.

Even though the apartment is petite by some standards, it still has a comfortably sized, separate bedroom, with a big wardrobe cabinet. When my daughter and I wanted separate spaces we had them. Also the apartment, since it does not front on a street, is very quiet, especially at night. We found the kitchen to be well-equipped, and we enjoyed the dining room table and its comfortable chairs for eating and for working. We were traveling lightly, with few clothes, so having a washing machine in the apartment was great.

The apartment had only three minor downfalls for us (and I would still rent it again in a heartbeat). My daughter found the shower claustrophobic (I had no trouble with it). One night, my daughter said that my walking on the creaky (though beautiful!) wood floors slowed her falling asleep. The stylish and comfortable, cushioned, light-colored dining room chairs have a few small stains on some of the seats.

As for the surrounds of the apartment, I’ve fallen in love with the neighborhood. I feel much more relaxed in the neighborhood of the apartment than I feel in the touristy areas. (Thieves undoubtedly prefer touristy spots.) The architecture is beautiful like almost all of Paris, and groceries, restaurants, buses and metro are close at hand.

It’s hard to imagine anything being better than all that, but best of all is working with Paula! She’s responsive, helpful, and supportive every step of the way. Whenever I need a place to stay in Paris, I always contact her first. Book as early as you can with her though because she doesn’t always have availability, and no one else I’ve rented through compares!

A Paris apartment sans tourist throngs

  • 5 of 5

First off, Paula is outstanding. She takes care of apartment details (everything is as-advertised, plus there are extras like coffee pods, TP, and laundry detergent) and she is always available, answering emails even when out of the country. The flat, thankfully, is outside of the zone where tourists throng and is surrounded by bakeries, little grocery stores (oh, the wines you can get for 5-10€!), brasseries, and restaurants. Living in a Parisian neighborhood sans tourists is such a pleasurable treat. However, if you want tourists they are readily accessible via close-by bus and Metro stops, or you can walk a couple of minutes towards Sacre Couer.

The Wednesday and Saturday markets at rue Damremont are fantastique!

The neighborhood is very safe. Once we tubed home close to one in the morning and felt as safe as we would walking across a suburban cul-de-sac in the afternoon.

We are a pair of mid-sixties travelers who were cozy on rue Carpeaux for four weeks in April-May of 2016. We highly recommend Paula and Cozy Carpeaux.

Excellent stay

  • 5 of 5

This cosy little apartment in Montmartre is an excellent choice for travellers who are keen on discovering Paris. Any daily consumer needs can be satisfied in the immediate vicinity of the home. The apartment provides a homey and comfy atmosphere and is very well equipped. However, the shower cubicle is challenging and might hardly be accessible to people with disabilities. Paula is a perfect guide, and we were highly delighted about her warm welcome and her recommendations. To sum up: Enjoy that five star choice.
