About Rand Lounsbury and Maggie Myers

We live in New Hampshire, USA and have family and friends in Placencia that have lived there for over twenty years.

Rand Lounsbury and Maggie Myers purchased this bungalow in 2012

Why Rand Lounsbury and Maggie Myers chose Placencia

We actually fell in love with Placencia on our first visit 15 years ago. Once we decided to build a small home there our search for the ideal location began. We found this lot that faces the sea, with unobstructed views of the Caribbean. Our property is a the end of a small community development, with common land that can't be developed between our property and the beach. The home is built from local hardwood to be strong and beautiful. Facing east is the sea and looking toward the back of the house to the west, a glass window in the peak of the wall lets in the western sun.

What makes this bungalow unique

The view of the Caribbean Sea from the hammock on the veranda is just stunning. There is always a breeze coming off the water and if the breeze is up, you can hear the waves breaking on the beach. The house is a nice size for two and with the open concept, peaked roof and ceiling fans, one is always comfortable.

We couldn't have asked for a better place in Placencia to stay. We loved having coffee on the deck in the morning watching sunrise over the Carribean. It's a short walk into town for dinner or music and walking home at night felt completely safe, even walked home on the beach one night. The people of Placencia are the kindness we've ever experienced while on vacation. One morning I walked into town and every single person, locals and gringos, said "Good Morning". What a breath of fresh air to have people look you in the eye and give you a greeting - such an inclusive feel. Then there is Penny who took care of us and even came up with a phone to use locally. Thank you so much Rand and Penny for providing such a comfortable home away from home. We'll be back.

I wish I was the owner of this wonderful casita!

  • 5 of 5

I am a traveler and I have often said "I will return" on many of my travels. I never have. Never until my son and I rented this house last year during the Christmas holidays. We enjoyed it so much that when the holidays came around again we became nostalgic and rented it again this year. It is exactly like the photos you will review. Actually, it is better! Open with high ceilings it has very good fans and a constant breeze coming from the sea so there is no need for AC. It is a simple casita and only a one bedroom but the high ceilings and its many windows give out a lot of light and make it appear larger. I found it decorated with taste and it has a very good kitchen and bathroom. The best part of the casita is its beach front balcony, where you can have your coffee in the morning at sunrise. You can relax in the hamac in the shade all day, if you want to, and have a few drinks while you look at amazing sunsets. It is located in a calm area of the village, which I appreciated. My son's Dive Shop was close by and we could easily walk to the village when we wanted to experience Placencia's night life. It would be a good idea to rent bikes for the time you are there. Penny is simply wonderful! Do not hesitate to contact her and ask her for information on the casita, on Placencia or Belize. Thank you again Penny and Rand.

Amazing Stay January 2018

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I had two fabulous weeks at the Casita Margarita from December 29 - January 12, 2018. The house was wonderful, my favourite part being the view. Loved having coffee on the deck every morning and looking out at the beautiful ocean. Can't beat that view!!

The house had everything we needed. It was really nice to have a good stove and fridge so we could cook some meals at home, not that we felt like it much! The bed was very comfortable and the house was always cool thanks to all the windows. Some nights were a little noisy from neighborhood dogs and increased road traffic early in the morning but otherwise very quiet and peaceful.

Penny was very helpful and looked out for us during the Tsunami warning which was very good since we were oblivious! Thanks so much Penny.

We did have a gecko or two join us for our stay, can't be helped in the area I understand, kept the rest of the bugs away anyway.

I really enjoyed being on the north end of town, it was a short walk into town and close to a good store and not far from the sidewalk and only minutes to the beach.

We would very much recommend Casita Margarita for your Placencia vacation and will definitely stay there again, if we don't buy our own place before our next trip!

Incredible Time!

  • 5 of 5

Rand, Maggie, and Peggy- THANK YOU for opening your home to us in Placencia! We had an incredible time and wish we were still there. The place was perfect for the 2 of us and the location was convenient to everything. The beach is literally out the front door, and you can easily walk everywhere but we also rented bikes which made it even more fun. The place was quiet, the kitchen was well equipped, and Peggy was very helpful in offering recommendations and answering questions. We met some wonderful people that we'll never forget and had some amazing adventures paddle boarding, exploring mayan ruins, and getting our dive certifications. The most memorable of them all was when Brian proposed to me at the bottom of the ocean while diving! We'll never forget that moment or this place! We'll definitely be back! Thanks again, Brian and Jaima

A perfect place for R&R; Great access to local fare and activites

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't be happier with our stay here the past week. The house is super cute, clean, and relaxing. We love the hammock and deck. We used the kitchen well, cooking various meals throughout the week, finding we had all that we needed. The bedroom, bathroom, and shelves are all thoughtfully arranged and placed.

The sea is in view and a short walk away. Restaurants are close by as well as several grocery stores. We enjoyed walking the village and beach and getting out to snorkel. We used Discount Belize Shuttles to get down to the house, and we recommend them heartily. Placencia is worth the extra travel to get off the beaten path, yet it offers the activities and amenities a traveler wants. Penny is great to work with and answered our questions and gave us recommendations. We are so thankful we found Rand, Penny, and Casita Margarita!

Placencia Village is situated at the southern most point of a 20 mile long peninsula. The peninsula is not more than a few miles across at its widest point. Facing east one looks out on the sparkling Caribbean sea with numerous cays and the 2nd longest barrier reef in the world. To the west is the lagoon rimed by mangrove trees which is teeming with marine life. Make the short walk down the beach, or the historic sidewalk into the village, or head north up the beach for miles of uninterrupted beach combing.
