Badalona was built around the old Roman town of Baetulo, and the excavated site of that ancient city is now a museum, offering a unique look at a long-gone way of life. Visitors can get a glimpse of former streets, bathhouses, and public squares. On the edge of the Baetulo remains is Dalt Vila, another preserved neighborhood, this 1 from medieval times. If you prefer a healthy mix of history and art, head to the Museum of Badalona, opened in 1955. Its collections include artifacts from throughout Badalona's history, as well as the work of local artists, past and present.
Walking the waterfront in Badalona
Badalona offers many of the same attractions as its larger neighbor, but on a more intimate scale, including a shopping and dining promenade often compared to Barcelona's Las Ramblas. La Rambla de Badalona runs along the waterfront, offering glimpses of the Mediterranean as you pop in and out of shops or pause for coffee at a local cafe. Walk far enough along the avenue or the beachfront and you'll stumble upon Pont del Petroli, a public pier stretching over the sea for almost 250 meters. A stroll to the end will reward you with incredible views of the blue beyond and the Serra de la Marina mountains on shore.
