About Zak Rahman
We have made New Orleans our home since 1974. I went to under-grad and grad school at UNO & Tulane. Our 3 kids were born and raised here. We have owned and operated Silk Road Tavern, for over 30 years. We love renovating old properties in historic New Orleans neighborhoods, like Marigny, Treme and the French Quarter. We also enjoy describing the local creole/cajun cuisine, music, architecture culture and charm of Nola, the city we fell in love with at first sight. Kindly wine, dine & recline in our tavern & guesthouse.
Zak Rahman purchased this Bed And Breakfast in 2016
Why Zak Rahman chose Treme - Lafitte
1206-08 Esplanade was a plantation style home after the civil war. Prior to hurricane Katrina, it was a illegal, functioning brothel for many decades. We were looking for a vacation home for our nephew Sal Khan, founder of who was born and raised in New Orleans like our 3 children. After we found this grand old house for Sal, he changed his mind and ended up buying a home in San Francisco. Naturally, by now we had fallen in love with the beauty, architecture and location of this gorgeous building.
What makes this Bed And Breakfast unique
Besides location, location, location...a block from the French Quarter and the new street-car line, this house has spectacular views of Esplanade Avenue, one of the oldest and grandest avenues in New Orleans. 300 hundred year old Oak tress grace the front of this property. You can sit on the swing in the covered porch and see the street-car and people go by in front of you all day and night. The entire property has been renovated, from inside out, since we bought it in 2016. 12 foot ceiling, 300 hundred year old heart-pine floors, marble bathrooms - besides new plumbing, electrical and air-conditioning. We have also planted a tropical garden with over 100 trees and a fountain in 2017. Lovely, home indeed!

Perfect place for a big group/reunion
Stayed here with 6 coupled for JazzFest. The rooms were clean and lovely, the besds were comfortable. The porch was a great place to hang out and watch the world go by. And SO convenient both to the Festival and to Frenchmans St and the Quarter. Hope to stay here again.
I've been meaning to write this review for over a year now! We were the first guests to stay in this newly renovated house and we were blown away by how amazing it was. Zak was so accommodating and great to work with. Doors were still being hung and finishing touches put on when we arrived- and it was better than expected. Our group of 10 friends couldn't have had a better time- the location was perfect and the house was so beautifully renovated with charm and modern comforts. We enjoyed the balcony out front and being close to all the action! We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to the Big Easy!
Esplanade Guest House is 1-block from the French Quarter and 1-block from the new(2017) street-car line. Stone's throw from Frenchmen Music Corridor and St. Claude Cultural District.
We love hanging out at Buffa's for Daily Meal Specials and music. Port-of-Call is the renowned burger & steak legend.
Our Silk Road Tavern, is a century old icon.
Kindly come wine, dine &...recline with us at Sulk Rude;)
