There's something special about a place that can be so clean, well-appointed and functional yet feels so incredibly welcoming - and this was the place! Indoors, the house was clean and had everything you need (and that your kids would need)! "I wish I had a blanket" and boom, you'd somehow find a basket of blankets right next to you! From books on the area, binoculars, to a smartTV where you can log in to your own Amazon/Netflix, etc. it really had it all. The kid space downstairs was perfect - we basically could deposit our crew (4-7) and they made their own fun. The beds and configurations worked great and our kids loved sleeping downstairs in the bunks!
Outside though was the best part! Such stunning views, chairs for enjoying nature, and a nice-sized outdoor table with an umbrella for easy outdoor eating (which somehow we got to do, in blinding sunshine, in mid-APRIL!). The beach was great as the tide came in and out, we found all kinds of sealife under the rocks (crabs galore!) and there were plenty of fallen trees, rocks, etc. for the kids, again, to make their own fun!
We also reflected on the location - just 8 minutes to "town" which was so wonderful. We could easily pile in the car to get ice cream, or just send out one adult to pick up dinner. The food in the local restaurants was surprisingly good! A little pricey, but as expected on an island. We had one of the best fish burritos of our life, and the Thai place is so authentic, it's talked about in Seattle foodie circles. We also found the local grocery story (Thriftway) had all the hits (many common local brands found in Seattle grocery stores) which made us feel at home! (And allowed us to easily feed picky kids!).
We had our family of 4 (2 adults + a 4 & 6 yo) - we took the main-floor master and the kids slept in the bunks in the basement. Upstairs, our sing;le-parent friend took the room with a double/queen + a single bed for herself and her 2 boys (4 & 7). The other upstairs bedroom was taken by our au pair, a single adult (but would have room for a couple). Really great space for a coupel families, or extended family to enjoy!
This is a wonderful place and I'd suggest it for anyone looking for a private, yet easily accessible spot on Vashon! The views were so wonderful to wake up to! We can't wait to return!
