About this property
Newly renovated cottage in Clayton Historic District - a short drive to Raleigh
Walk to downtown Clayton from this freshly-renovated 1928 house in the historic district. With 2 bedrooms featuring Sleep Number queen and full beds, you don't have to worry about the mattress being too hard or soft. You can adjust to your liking.
We've kept the original hardwood floors and historic charm of the home, while updating it for modern conveniences -with features like wifi, keyless entry, smart thermostat, and more.
The full kitchen with dishwasher and butcher block breakfast bar is open to the living space for optimal socializing. We've tried to think of every kitchen gadget you'll need to cook up a meal, bake some cookies, blend a frozen drink, or just microwave some popcorn. There's also a full-size washer and dryer with steam feature to keep you fresh and sharp.
The house is small, but open and efficient, best suited for small groups of 4 or fewer. The back yard is large and open, yet still private with a small deck and patio for gathering or enjoying the outdoors.
It's an easy walk to downtown Clayton (about 2.5 blocks) for local events, dining, playing and shopping. The Neuse River and trails are less than a mile away or hop on the Interstate and you can be in downtown Raleigh in 20 minutes or less.
We hope you'll come, relax and enjoy the slower pace of small town Clayton, conveniently located near all the city of Raleigh has to offer.
We do allow well-behaved pets, but do not have a fenced area, so they will need to be attended and on leash if outside. Keep in mind there are other animals in the neighborhood and your pet is a newcomer, so use caution and stay with your pets if neighboring pets appear.
Also - even the best behaved pets can become nervous and act uncharacteristically in a strange place, Please plan to crate your pets if you must leave them unattended.
Always clean up after your pets.

About the host
Hosted by Rebecca Chandler

I'm Rebecca and I live in the Raleigh area. This is our second property to host on VRBO, so while this is a new listing, we're not new to hosting. We hope our guests feel at home and enjoy their stay, whether they are in town to visit family, for a special event, working in the area, or just as a little escape.
We stay in the home ourselves, along with friends and family from time to time, so we get the same experience as our guests. I think this helps us make sure you are comfortable and have all the little things you need when you're away from home.

Why they chose this property
Clayton is a quiet community, just outside of Raleigh. The historic district surrounds the little downtown area, with numerous shops, restaurants, parks and entertainment. Many of the homes have been lovingly restored and the entire area is very walkable.
On the weekends, you can find a local farmer's market, community events, and live music in several venues within a short walk or drive.
There are greenways and bike trails nearby to explore and the Neuse River is about a mile away.

What makes this property unique
The home was built some time in the 1920's and owned by the same family since the 70's. We started our renovation in December of 2024 and completed it in June of 2025. It was a labor of love - and sometimes, a practice in patience. :-)
It's a small house - and never a very fancy one, but it' solid and we think it's adorable. We tried to keep much of the original character - like the old heart pine floors, but bring it up to date with modern conveniences like a fresh kitchen, full-size washer/dryer, Sleep Number beds, and keyless entry.
The neighborhood is fully residential, quiet and friendly. We two porches and a large back yard with a clear view of the sky on moonlit nights.
We're close enough to downtown Raleigh to make it an easy 15-20 minute drive, but far enough away to escape the bustle of the city.
