Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bath Plus Loft In A Quiet Rural Setting Just 7 Miles From Downtown.

This newly remodeled cabin hosts an open floor plan with huge windows overlooking the pasture, gardens, and pecan grove. A new modern eclectic kitchen with vintage sink and butcher block counters opens to the main living area capable of supporting festive getaways with friends and family. During the growing season fresh produce will be ready for harvest from the 1/4 acre garden right outside the door. Both bedrooms feature new queen beds with high quality linens for a comfortable rest. Newly remodeled bathroom features a bath/shower combo to accommodate guests needs plus luxurious towels for added comfort. Open loft upstairs off second bedroom allows for extra sleeping arrangements, a place to do yoga, play music or just relax with a book. Outside there is a wrap around deck perfect for grilling, watching the sunrise and stars, wildlife viewing, and all the happenings going on in the gardens. There are hiking trails through the woods, a creek to explore, a fishing pond and during the late winter months maple sugaring adventures to enjoy. We have many projects (and dreams) in the works at Sweet Hills Farm but currently the focus is on an extensive garden project and glade restoration.

About Amy Higgins Stambaugh

We are both native Missourians and have called Columbia our home for over 15 years. We recently moved to the 'country' in 2011 to turn our dream of living on land into a reality. This piece of property has proven to be a bounty of surprises and beauty to behold.

Amy Higgins Stambaugh purchased this house in 2012

Guestbook comments from the owner

Amy, thank you for a wonderful weekend. This cabin in the woods fit our bill perfectly! We are three sisters who take a fall trip every year just to places that are not very far from Kansas City. The cabin was roomy, we all had our own beds, the kitchen had all the items in it we needed. The beds and linens were very comfortable. A suggestion would be to add a couple of mirrors in the house would make getting ready for our day a little easier. We loved sitting out on the deck looking over the property and star gazing at night. We loved the path through the woods which we walked everyday. It was very quiet, except for the birds and the lion! We highly recommend it and hope to come again soon.

This home was ideal for a Get-A-Way.

There were wonderful trails that were easy to hike. The firepit was furnished with wood and we had a terrific time, All three couples said the beds were very comfortable.

Absolutely loved everything about the place. Way off the beaten path and it's awesome. Our family of 5 had a blast.

Paradise close to the city

  • 5 of 5

This house is perfect. It is a short 15 min drive from Columbia (the last mile over dirt and gravel roads- don't drive your Ferrari here) so great for visiting Mizzou. It has basic amenities- hot water, heating, electricity including internet (slow speed so don't plan to stream Netflix). No TV to ruin the ambience! Soft beds, ample towels (bring your own toiletries), comfy living room furniture to sit around and talk or play board games. Kitchen with pots and pans and silverware. Bring groceries- there is no 7-Eleven down the block to grab a soda or snack. There is a fire pit next to the house so consider S'more ingredients too. The garden right outside the house has 8 cute chickens who will immediately bond with you if you feed them table scraps (no eggs or chicken to keep them from eating their own eggs.) There is a sky full of stars at night and a grassy meadow for quiet daytime strolls. Guess you can tell we were thrilled with our time there. Can't say anything bad about it.

Very nice cabin and property! Great owners!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year staying at the cabin for a weekend with family members. The cabin is very cute and well kept. We spent most of our time outdoors walking around their property or just sitting on the porch. Both the adults and kids equally enjoyed themsleves!

Football weekend

  • 3 of 5

Very nice, but too far away from Columbia for a college football weekend, no tv's. Plenty of space , but think a cabin in the country.

Beautiful Guest Home

  • 5 of 5

We spent Mizzou's homecoming weekend here. Charming, bucolic, and relaxing are just a few words that come to mind. The drive up is spectacular and the home is so sweetly and lovingly maintained. Beautiful touches you'd expect to see in Country Living magazine. Our daughter is a student, and it was nice for her to get a little relaxing time out walking around the pond and seeing the chickens. Beds are super comfy and it has everything you need to feel at home. It's a beautiful getaway, yet only about 10 minutes to campus/town. We loved our stay and hope to return!
