About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6

Please Note: This condo is offered for rent by an individual owner, and not by the Apple Valley Condominium Association. Service fees are charged by and paid to VRBO, not to the owner.

You will love returning here after a day on the Lake (or you may find it so relaxing that you never make it out onto the Lake). Unit D-1 is a two floor, townhouse style unit.

The first floor features a fully equipped kitchen, including refrigerator, stove, microwave, and dishwasher, along with plates and utensils. The kitchen opens onto a dining area with a high top table and chairs. An adjacent living room area offers a comfortable sectional couch, large ottoman, and new flat screen TV (with Dish Network). A first floor balcony opens off of the dining area giving guests a beautiful view of a wooded ravine typical of the Lake Cumberland area. Completing the first floor is a full bathroom.

The stairway to the second floor opens into the master bedroom, which contains a king size bed and full dresser with mirror. There is plenty of open floor space for kids in sleeping bags, an air mattress, a playpen, or luggage. The second balcony opens off of the master bedroom, and with its treehouse feel is the perfect place for morning coffee. The second bedroom is also upstairs, and with bunk beds and a pull out couch, can sleep four. A second full bath, accessible from both bedrooms, completes the second floor. All upstairs rooms have vaulted ceilings. The entire condo was freshly painted in 2013. There are hardwood floors throughout the first floor, and carpeting throughout the second floor. Both bathrooms have ceramic tile. In addition to the private balconies, guests can also enjoy the outdoors on a deck just outside the front door. It's a perfect place for picnics, and is a great staging area for your day on the Lake. Unit D-1 is located in a private, gated resort. The resort makes enjoying Lake life easy with ample boat trailer parking, a station for cleaning fish, and easy access to two major launching ramps. There is also plenty to do at the resort without ever going out on the Lake. Guests can enjoy a newly renovated swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball court, fire ring, and playground area. There are also several hiking trails that lead from the resort down to the Lake. In addition, the convenient location allows guests to easily enjoy all the amenities offered by Lake Cumberland State Resort Park. We think you will love it here. One visit and you'll never want to stay in Lure Lodge or the State Park cottages again!

Please Note: The geography of this area is hilly, and the walkway from the parking lot down to our condo is relatively steep. We think the privacy is well worth it, but those with physical limitations may find the walkway challenging.

About Chris Moell

Our family lives in Champaign County, Ohio, in rural West Liberty. Our three kids range from high school to middle school age, and we have enjoyed boating at Lake Cumberland for many years.

Chris Moell purchased this condo in 2013

Why Chris Moell chose Jamestown

Our family has been coming to Lake Cumberland for more than 20 years, and my wife's family for many more than that. We love the West end of the Lake, and would always stay in either Lure Lodge or a cottage in Lake Cumberland State Resort Park.

Although our condo is located just inside the entrance to the State Park, it is so private that we drove by it hundreds of times (literally) over the years without ever even realizing it was there. We 'discovered' in 2012 and, after a disappointing stay in one of the State Park cottages earlier that summer, decided to try it for a spur of the moment trip. That one stay hooked us. Not only did we find it to be much nicer than the State Park cottages, but it was a better value. We bought our own unit shortly afterwards.

The condo resort really is the best of both worlds. It offers easy access to everything the Lake Cumberland State Resort Park offers, but with the amenities of a privately owned resort.

What makes this condo unique

Our favorite part of the condo is the balconies. The balconies on our condo in particular overlook a wooded ravine. The slope of the ravine combined with the height of the structure put these balconies in the midst of the treetops, giving them a treehouse feel. It's the perfect place for morning coffee with birds chirping in the background, or to relax in the evening surrounded by night sounds. Just about every one of our days starts and ends on one of the balconies.

Peacefully beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

The resort area was very quiet and peaceful. We were there to go trout fishing on the Cumberland River putting in at Wolf Creek Dam by Kendall Campground, and Apple Valley Resort was a great location.

The condo was stylishly decorated with all the conveniences of home. It says it sleeps 6 persons, but the leather sectional sofa downstairs in the living room is so comfortable and large, it can accommodate two adults.

The only thing to be aware of is the walk from the parking lot to the condo. Since it is situated in a row behind another time of condos, there is a fairly steep blacktop wakey that can be challenging to those with physical disabilities, especially when bringing belongings to and from your vehicle. Otherwise, it was nice to have the condo backup to the woods.

The condo has two back decks: one on the first floor off the dining area and one off the master bedroom upstairs. Sitting outside makes you feel like you have your own peace of Heaven, especially early in the morning.

Chris was a very gracious host. Any questions I had were immediately answered by him. All details for the stay were clearly disclosed. Between information given by Chris and VRBO, I was never in the dark on what to expect. I highly recommend this condo, Apple Valley Resort, Chris, and VRBO.

Great

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time at this condo. It was very clean for the most part. Some of the pots and pans, especially cast iron were a little gross and not taken care of, but we brought some of our own cookware, so we didnt nerd them. Paper towel would have been helpful. Chris isn't joking when he says it can be tough to get to the condo....the hill to get down there is steep!! We got quite the work out in loading and unloading the truck. Chris was easy to communicate with and we had no probably checking in or out. We would stay here again. It was in a great location and Lake Cumberland was gorgeous to kayak on.

Owner's Response: Saying you’d come back says it all - another point on “the hill is worth it” side 🙂? Sorry about the pans and glad it wasn’t a problem. Thanks for the heads up and that’ll be taken care of!

Great place!!

  • 5 of 5

My son and I went to Lake Cumberland for the Memorial Day weekend. This place was a great location, right at the State Park. I was glad that the owner had warned on the steep hill to get down to it, so we were prepared but to me, it was worth it. The condo was nicely decorated and had majority of what we needed (would have loved to have a skillet one night tho.. haha).

We arrived fairly late but the instructions were perfectly laid out and we got thru the gate and in the condo with no problems. I was concerned with how hot it was inside when we arrived but it cooled off very quickly with the AC and fans on. Will definitely look at staying here again if we visit again.

Owner's Response: We agree that the hill is worth the privacy. I’ll put a skillet on my shopping list !

Tough to Get To

  • 2 of 5

Thank goodness we had on tennis shoes as the very steep walk down to the condo from the parking lot was treacherous. The condo was nice, but the bed arrangement was not clearly explained. Because the 2nd bedroom is just on the other side of a partial wall and you share a bathroom with that bedroom, you have no privacy from your children. The television did not get hardly any channels. So, we were unable to watch the Kentucky Derby, which was supposed to be one of the highlights of our weekend. It would also help if there were some directions to local grocery, gas, etc. since we arrived in the evening and did not know what was around us.

Owner's Response: You're right that the geography of the area is hilly and the walkway to the condo is steep. I try to make that clear in the property description, and I'm sorry that if it was more challenging than you may have realized. That's the tradeoff for our unit's privacy, which we think is worth it. The unit has a full Dish package, so the Derby should have been available. Maybe it was an issue with the remote -- those Dish remotes aren't always user friendly. Sorry you missed it!

Great weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say how great this property was! We had to schedule a last minute trip due to a fishing trip being cancelled. The place was right near the Cumberland river and it was a nice place to come back too after a long day fishing!

Map

Our condo is part of Apple Valley Resort, which is located just inside Cumberland State Park. If you've been to the state park you probably drove right by Apple Valley without ever noticing it was there (it took us years to 'discover' it). This convenient location gives our guests easy access to all the amenities the state park offers (horseback riding, hiking trails, Frisbee golf, Lure Lodge, miniature golf, to name a few), and, most importantly, to beautiful Lake Cumberland itself. Located close to the launching ramps at both Pumpkin Creek (State Dock) and Wolf Creek Dam, our condo makes the perfect home base for your time a Lake Cumberland. Our family has boated at Lake Cumberland for the last 20 years, and had always stayed at Lure Lodge or one of the state park cottages. In 2012 we discovered Apple Valley when planning a spur of the moment trip, and enjoyed so much we quickly bought a unit of our own. Our condo is updated, clean, private, and a great value. Once you've stayed here you'll never want to stay in the state park lodge or cottages again!
