About Curtis Absher

I grew up in Blacksburg and got a B. S. at VA Tech. That stimulated me to get graduate degrees from Oklahoma State and The University of Tennessee. I retired from the University Of Kentucky. After my late wife died, Kaye and I blended our families making for one with 7 children and 17 grand children. We value family and like to provide places for families to celebrate significant life events. As a 10 year old boy , I helped my father build the Harding Place. ( I doubt I helped as much as I thought I did but the house is well built anyway.)

Curtis Absher purchased this house in 2013

Why Curtis Absher chose Blue Ridge Highlands

Comfortably furnished, secluded but so close to everything, especially to Blacksburg and VA Tech Campus. Short drives can put you on hiking trails. A little longer drive can take you to the country village of Floyd, VA or the Blue Ridge Parkway.

What makes this house unique

The side porch and yard provide space to relax and watch birds and deer.

Perfect VT Alumni Reunion!

  • 5 of 5

Curtis was more than helpful and accommodating for my VT Alumni weekend reunion. The house was well-maintained, cozy and comfortable for my friends and I. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and it is a great location from downtown Blacksburg. We were easily able to grab an Uber - and some people even walked! Coffee on the porch with the beautiful view was exactly what we needed to start our mornings.

Looking forward to staying again!

Cozy and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was great, warm and inviting. Curtis was wonderful to work with. The proximity to VT campus was a plus for us. We especially enjoyed the deer that came to visit the apple tree every evening.

Love it here

  • 4 of 5

This is the second year we've stayed at Cozy Cottage and it was just as great at the first time. Curtis provides excellent customer service helping me with the reservation process and my parents to get into the cottage.

The cottage itself is immaculate, it always feels cleaner than a hotel. All of the rooms are quite comfortable and my daughter (5yo) especially loves the attic and counting the beds ;-)

Can't wait to return!

Owner's Response: We want each stay to be a reason that guests want to come back. That is our challenge and we take it seriously. We look forward to having you back for the third time!

Quaint and Comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

This is a well-maintained older property with everything you need for an extended stay. The owner was extremely responsive by email and text about questions and issues. Groundhogs and deer wander through at night, drawn by the crabapple tree on the property. Great views and breezes at night! Super close to Virginia Tech--just a seven minute drive.

Owner's Response: We are so glad that it worked out for you to stay at the HP Cozy Cottage. It is an older home that my Dad built for himself in 1950. He didn't have money for extras but he knew the principles of "Built to Last." Hope your experience at VA Tech summer institute was a good one. Come Back!

Late minute escape

  • 5 of 5

This house was just what we needed. We made the reservations at the last minute and Curtis was fantastic to work with. The house is comfortable and welcoming. I spent every morning drinking my coffee on the porch and my husband and I spent hours just relaxing, talking, and enjoying the views. Our son loved the upstairs room and wants to live here forever.

We found a great restaurant near campus, Gillie's. The food is affordable and great. We have eaten there twice and will return today. I recommend hiking in the Cascades Recreation Area (Pembroke). It was well worth the trek to see the waterfall, with an impressive flow of water (it's not just a wispy thread). The trail goes along the creek (more like a river) for most of the way.
