The proud owner of Casa Cristina is Andrea. Andrea's grandmother purchased the house in 1949 and it has been their family home for many years and it is where Andrea grew up. In 1975, Andrea's father restored the house and the latest restoration has been completed in 2013 by Andrea himself. The apartment is named after Andrea's mother, Cristina.
Mandy Bell purchased this apartment in 1949
Andrea is very fond of Casa Cristina because he was born there and spent many happy years of family life in the house. In 2010, the house passed to Andrea and he decided to restore this wonderful historic property in a blend of modern and traditional styles creating a warm and welcoming home.
The apartment is part of a 500 year old Palazzo and has very interesting origins. It was part of a convent which was linked to the nearby important religious seminary called Seminario Vescovile and was only in the 1900's converted for family living. Underneath the house lie several caves ( Grotte ) which date back thousands of years to Etruscan times.
We three close friends stayed 7 nights in Casa Cristina. The apartment is a very large, well-equipped, comfortable, and a great value. The location is perfect, easily walkable to entire town, and close drive to many lovely hill towns in Umbria and Tuscany. Three bedrooms, two baths worked well for our group. Recommend that visitors use the upper parking garage for 12 euros/day. Heating gas cost 5 euros/day which we needed on chilly evenings. Wifi only works in living room.
We all truly enjoyed our time we spent in Casa Cristina. My husband and I were traveling with our three sons. Each one of the boys had their own bedroom which was just great! We also loved having the two bathrooms as well. It was a pleasure to come home from sightseeing all day and be able to relax in the living room and also have access to a kitchen. This works so much better than staying in hotel rooms. Casa Cristina is very clean and centrally located and therefore very easy to get to all points of Orvieto. In addition, we were able to walk to the train and go to Florence as well as other towns in Umbria. We would all truly recommend Casa Cristina!
This property was spacious and clean. It was a perfect fit for us and our two grandchildren. Everyone had their own bedroom and with two baths it was fine. The apartment did not have air conditioning but the host did provide 3 floor fans which were a big help. We loved Orvieto and hope to return someday Mandy provided excellent service and information.
This fantastic apartment in a great location in Orvieto was one of the top spots during our trip to Italy. Orvieto and surrounding highlights, such as Civita and Bolsena, makes this an amazing base for sightseeing, history and culture. Mandy was delightful and provided some great advice and recommendations, it was wonderful meeting her. We wouldn't hesitate to visit again!
We very much enjoyed our stay . The apartment met all our requirements and more. Perfect location...best deal for sure in the town. Mandy and Lois made arrival very easy and even picked us up at the train station. Upon departure their friend Victoria checked us out and gave us great information about the area. We will be sure to return...thanks to all !!!
My family and I arrived to Orvieto late and starved. Mandy met us and had just returned from a party which she had leftovers from. Since we had not eaten hardly at all that day and since everything was closed, Mandy gave us her food! That was our first impression with Mandy and the experience of this apartment and Orvieto. The apartment is literally huge... giving you a reprieve from all the small accommodations that Europe has to offer. It was centrally located, walking distance to everything. You must go to Caffe Montanucci while you are in Orvieto. We went in the mornings for our breakfast for the best cappuccinos and pastries that we have experienced in Europe (they also serve lunch and sell a variety of loose teas to take home with you!) You also must go up the bell tower for the view. We did but not many people seem to know about it and of course... Mandy recommended it. The view is like no other view of Tuscany, truly amazing. We will definitely stay here again if we find ourselves in Orvieto in the future. Thank you Mandy!
Besides the Duomo, Orvieto is bursting with life .... why not try the local Umbrian pasta, Umbricelli, in one of the traditional trattorias, or enjoy a glass of the famous Orvieto Classico wine at one of the many pavement Cafes often there is also live music. Take a stroll through the cobbled back streets and visit the bustling town market held in the Piazza Del Popolo each Thursday and Saturday. Here you can buy fresh local produce, cured meats and there is the most fabulous Pecorino Cheese stall where you can try before you buy. Orvieto is most famous for it's production of Orvieto Classico wines and you can visit many local Cantinas and have a tour and a taste !
