Overview

About the property

Secluded 3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Along The Bad Axe River With Breathtaking Views

The Serendipity Cabin is nestled in the center of the Ocooch Mountain Range which is also known as Driftless Wisconsin. Sit outside on the raised porch and enjoy nature at its absolute best. You will hear the ripple of the Bad Axe River as it beckons the many woodland creatures down for a cool drink. Anglers from across the Country have come to Vernon County to test their skills in many of the area’s top producing trout streams. The Bad Axe River runs alongside the cabin and is accessible at the bottom of the hill.

This cabin is ideal for two couples traveling together who like their privacy as it has a bathroom upstairs and downstairs. There is also a small bar area on the lower level which includes a sink, coffee pot, electric tea kettle and a refrigerator.

The closest restaurant is the Norwegian Hollow Hideaway Bar and Grill which is a short drive from the cabin. They have a full bar and offer a variety of appetizers which include fried cheese curds (my personal favorite), burgers, pizza on Wednesdays and Friday night fish. Enjoy a cold one on the outside deck while the cows graze below. You will love this place.

The Driftless Wisconsin area is just south of Lacrosse and half way between Chicago and Minneapolis. It is only a half day drive from many of the cities in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa. You will enjoy the breathtaking scenic drives along the Mississippi River, the Wisconsin River, and the Kickapoo River.

Check-in is after 4:00 p.m. and check-out is at 11:00 a.m. If you need an early check-in or late check-out please ask. We will be happy to accommodate as the schedule permits. There is a 3 NIGHT MINIMUM - NOT NEGOTIABLE.

The cabin's maximum capacity is 6 adults and 2 children. If you do not abide by this rule, you will be in violation of the contract. If we discover there are more than 6 adults staying at the cabin without prior approval, you will be asked to leave. Thank you for understanding that this rule is in place for a reason.

We are certain you will love this place almost as much as we do.

VERY IMPORTANT: There is a steep driveway. The drive will be plowed after snow; however, it is necessary to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle if you will be staying during the winter months.

About Momi Malspeis

I was born in Viroqua, Wisconsin, and currently live in Northeast Florida with my daughter. I only spent 6 years of my childhood living in Viroqua because my dad was in the US Navy. After retirement, my parents moved back to Nottingham Ridge in Viroqua. Their farm is just up the hill from my kitchen window at the cabin.

Momi Malspeis purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Momi Malspeis chose Southwest

This 20 acre piece of land has been in my family for many years. My grandparents lived in a mobile home at the bottom of the hill (near the bridge) during the 1970's. I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase it from my parents in December of 2011. The cabin (which was built off site) was moved to its current location in July of 2012, and is dedicated to the beautiful memory of my late husband, Chuck Malspeis.

What makes this cabin unique

This property is secluded and peaceful.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cabin. Was very clean and inviting on arrival. Great fishing at the end of the drive and permission was easily obtained from the adjoining landowners on the Bad Axe River. Will definitely be returning for another relaxing weekend!

Tranquil beauty

My family enjoyed our second visit to this well appointed home in the hollows near Viroqua. Hiked great trails nearby and enjoyed great local food. Thanks for a fine place to have a quiet reunion. Hope to return.

Beautiful cabin and peaceful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were here with our two grandchildren, ages 12 and 16 and we all had a wonderful time. The cabin is gorgeous with beautiful views on every side. My husband and grandson did quite a bit of fishing right on the Bad Axe river and also on the Mississippi and Wisconsin rivers, while my granddaughter and I shopped in LaCrosse and did some hiking. I got up earlier than everyone else and enjoyed my coffee on one of the three decks/patios and watched the deer down the road. We never got to have a fire in the pit as it was drizzling the two nights we tried, but we used the gas grill and just spent time enjoying the views. We had an ongoing Monopoly game going the 4 days we were there, which our grandson beat us all at. The kids didn't have cell service so that made it all the better and we didn't miss it either. We did get to visit the goat farm and that was a lot of fun, enjoyed meeting John and he gave a wonderful tour and was so interesting to talk to. We milked the goats and even took some goat milk home. It was a wonderful and very enjoyable experience. His dogs are gorgeous and so well behaved!

Relaxing locartion. Tastefully decorated cabin.

  • 5 of 5

We can't imagine having a better time than we had at the Serendipity cabin. Everything we needed was there. It was an amazing setting. We sat on the deck and listened to the trout stream as eagles flew overhead. I can't recommend it more. You won't be disappointed.

Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

The home was wonderful! It was very clean and very well supplied with all the comforts of home. Loved the decks and furniture to enjoy the tranquility . Cell phone coverage poor which was great. It made us spend time together without that distraction but had good wi fi for looking up things to do in the area. I highly recommend this property.!!!
