Overview

About the property

Secluded 3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Along The Bad Axe River With Breathtaking Views

The Serendipity Cabin is nestled in the center of the Ocooch Mountain Range which is also known as Driftless Wisconsin. Sit outside on the raised porch and enjoy nature at its absolute best. You will hear the ripple of the Bad Axe River as it beckons the many woodland creatures down for a cool drink. Anglers from across the Country have come to Vernon County to test their skills in many of the area’s top producing trout streams. The Bad Axe River runs alongside the cabin and is accessible at the bottom of the hill.

This cabin is ideal for two couples traveling together who like their privacy as it has a bathroom upstairs and downstairs. There is also a small bar area on the lower level which includes a sink, coffee pot, electric tea kettle and a refrigerator.

The closest restaurant is the Norwegian Hollow Hideaway Bar and Grill which is a short drive from the cabin. They have a full bar and offer a variety of appetizers which include fried cheese curds (my personal favorite), burgers, pizza on Wednesdays and Friday night fish. Enjoy a cold one on the outside deck while the cows graze below. You will love this place.

The Driftless Wisconsin area is just south of Lacrosse and half way between Chicago and Minneapolis. It is only a half day drive from many of the cities in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa. You will enjoy the breathtaking scenic drives along the Mississippi River, the Wisconsin River, and the Kickapoo River.

Check-in is after 4:00 p.m. and check-out is at 11:00 a.m. If you need an early check-in or late check-out please ask. We will be happy to accommodate as the schedule permits. There is a 3 NIGHT MINIMUM - NOT NEGOTIABLE.

The cabin's maximum capacity is 6 adults and 2 children. If you do not abide by this rule, you will be in violation of the contract. If we discover there are more than 6 adults staying at the cabin without prior approval, you will be asked to leave. Thank you for understanding that this rule is in place for a reason.

We are certain you will love this place almost as much as we do.

VERY IMPORTANT: There is a steep driveway. The drive will be plowed after snow; however, it is necessary to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle if you will be staying during the winter months.

About Momi Malspeis

I was born in Viroqua, Wisconsin, and currently live in Northeast Florida with my daughter. I only spent 6 years of my childhood living in Viroqua because my dad was in the US Navy. After retirement, my parents moved back to Nottingham Ridge in Viroqua. Their farm is just up the hill from my kitchen window at the cabin.

Momi Malspeis purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Momi Malspeis chose Southwest

This 20 acre piece of land has been in my family for many years. My grandparents lived in a mobile home at the bottom of the hill (near the bridge) during the 1970's. I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase it from my parents in December of 2011. The cabin (which was built off site) was moved to its current location in July of 2012, and is dedicated to the beautiful memory of my late husband, Chuck Malspeis.

What makes this cabin unique

This property is secluded and peaceful.

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for five days to celebrate my dad's 65th birthday. It was so beautiful, comfortable, and well supplied with everything we needed - multiple poarches for birdwatching, grilling and eating out, a fire pit, super comfy rooms to accommodate three couples, a stocked kitchen, plenty of room to lounge and do puzzles and play games. Momi and the property caretakers were very welcoming and responsive to questions. We didn't make it to the goat farm but hear it's a highlight. Already planning another stay next year!

Beautiful property!

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. It's secluded and peaceful with plenty of space yet still feels cozy. Everything was very clean and comfortable. Momi and her family were very helpful, friendly, and easy to reach if we needed anything. Relaxing on the decks was one of our favorite things to do - peaceful, quite, and beautiful views.

We loved the cabin and everything about it. Great place to enjoy what Wisconsin has to offer.

Serendipity was perfect for our family. Trout fishing was fantastic. I can't say enough about the area and the beauty of our lovely state. We visit this area twice a year and are always refreshed after our vacation. Thank-you so much to Momi's parents for dropping off 18 eggs . I called to find out where the nearest grocery store was (I was short 2 eggs) for my brkf. bake and her father brought up a dozen and a half. Now where else but WI would something like that happen. We will be back to stay at this class A property. Thanks from Oshkosh

Seclusion with modern conveniences

  • 5 of 5

This is one of the best VRBO experiences we have had. The cabin is very secluded, up a long STEEP driveway, no neighbors and NO cell service. There is Wi-Fi, cable TV and a land phone line. Do bring a calling card if you need to stay in contact with anyone by phone. The "cabin" is charming, appointed with everything you could need, extremely well maintained and clean. It is far more than a cabin. It is a beautiful vacation home. While the river is right at the end of the drive, access for fishing is a bit tricky but my husband persevered :-) and fished multiple times every day. I enjoyed lots of peace and quiet on the beautiful decks. Momi was very helpful prior to our arrival and everything was perfect when we checked in so we never had to contact anyone.

Amazing cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We use VRBO a lot and this definitely was one of the best accommodations we've been to. Great location fairly close to Viroqua but far enough to have some great peace and quiet. It's equipped with everything you need for your stay and we can't wait to be back!
