My husband and I rented it for the weekend and we loved it. We enjoyed the place, it's so peaceful. We definitely be going back. The breakfast provided was so delicious.
Located on the river with view of the mountains from the front porch. Delicious breakfasts served to your door every morning. Wonderful owners. Will definitely be going back and referring to all of my family and friends.
Wonderful, secluded and romantic getaway!! Loved every minute of our stay!
Wow! What an amazing place to stay! The room is beautiful and very clean and well set up. The bathroom and microwave and mini frig are all well done and taken care of. This is the perfect place for a couple to stay. However, after reading the other reviews, I want to point out some things that make this the perfect place to stay. Some people complained about the long road in, but for us, that was a major plus. The remoteness is a huge part of the draw for this place. The drive in and out may be a little rugged, but they are beautiful. We saw an otter, several deer and all kinds of birds just by driving in. The drive is a major part of the charm. It is also a perfect romantic getaway location. There is no one to disturb a romantic weekend.
However, the single best aspect of this location is the access to the river. The huge dock is perfect for putting in kayaks and canoes when the water is at normal lever. For us, the water was low due to preparation for hurricane Flo way up river, but that was easily solved by a boat ramp less than a mile down the road. It worked out perfectly for us as we did a 8 mile paddle upriver and then paddled back down to the boat ramp. The gorge is all around you all the time. For the beauty and the seclusion, this is the perfect place.
One last thing that makes this place stand out is Susan and Jerry. They were wonderful hosts, provided an excellent breakfast and did not try to gouge the customer with massive fees like so many do on VRBO. I love using VRBO, but to find hosts that are more concerned with their guests and less concerned with every penny of profit they can squeeze, can be a challenge. This place truly fits the bill. We loved every minute, and for the price, it definitely can not be beat! Thanks for awonderful weekend! We will be back!
Clean, friendly hosts and peaceful setting. Bed was terrible and road to get there was rough
The owners were really friendly and unit was clean. The setting was peaceful but we had to take a long rough road to get there. Bed was terrible and squeaked every time one of us moved. As a result neither of us could sleep. Freshly made breakfast was a very nice touch. Did come across some small spiders in the room but maybe that is to be expected when surrounded by woods.. If it were not for the bed and difficulty getting to the location I would highly recommend but would not do so because of those reasons.
We love it when our guests come and enjoy their stay. We make it a habit to tell our guests daily to let us know if they need anything at all..so its sad when we only hear about something after someone leaves. We would have been happy to work with them on it. Its a new mattress; and we haven't heard this before- but beds can be individual for sure. As far as it being a bit away-seclusion and relaxation in the country is what our guests come for-so we can't really apologize for that. We hope their next vacay is a better fit.🐟
The location is beautiful right on the river. The Mallard room wasn't that big but was perfect for two people and the interior was beautiful. The only downfall for the property which is a bit misleading when looking at the VRBO site it looks like it is on the south side of the river which would be close to everything but it is actually on the north side and it is an 11 mile trek either way on a very winding road to get to another roadway which will add an extra 15 min on to any GPS and the closest bridge to get to town is another 10 min but if you really want privacy it is perfect. It has a great dock and the breakfast is homemade and really good and the bed is comfortable. If you are coming back late you may not want to leave the outside light on the moths are crazy. The room is very well sealed as even though the frogs were very loud outside you could not hear them in the room
We had a great couple of days away. Susan was great and the breakfasts were awesome. If you’re okay with a one room with kitchenette and bathroom it works fine. The place was kept nice and cool to get out of the heat!
