About Ellen Brennan-Humbert
This cottage is family owned, a dream of ours since childhood. Raised in Cleveland, one of us still resides there and the other in Newport, KY with our families. Our childhood summers always included a week, or even 2, renting a cottage along this area of Lake Erie. Those memories are still among our most precious. For a family of 13 in the 1960's, traveling 60 miles to a cottage was a cross country adventure. We even rented the cottage next to this at one time.
Ellen Brennan-Humbert purchased this House in 2006
Why Ellen Brennan-Humbert chose Huron
We fell in love with this property because of it's location and charming bungalow appeal. The first floor has 20 windows, filling the space with sunlight and lovely views of the surrounding community. It is perfect for family gatherings, and located conveniently between the Lake Erie coastal towns of Vermillion and Huron. The sandy beach is deep and well maintained. Every sunset is unique, but always spectacular.

You feel like you're home as soon as you walk in the door!
Although the hill to the water is a challenge the beach was wonderful. Our collection of beach glass was amazing! We will continue our family tradition of a week together in this house for years to come!
Beautiful property...we have been coming to mitiwanga for fourty years - best stay ever
Perfect for us!
Perfect vacation spot for our family. We had several little ones and the area is so safe, the beach so close to the house and the residents of Mitiwanga so friendly. Our cottage had an open floor plan and great deck that allowed for lots of togetherness. Visited Cedar Point and Kelley’s Island. The town of Vermilion was fun to visit and you could rent kayaks, paddle boards, etc. The paper Moon Winery was also nice.
The owners of the property are so nice and easy to work with. Would highly recommend staying here. My family is already talking about going back next year!
Great visit two years in a row.
The house is comfortable for a large family, plenty of room for various age groups to enjoy themselves. Love the covered structure added to the back patio between last summer and this summer. The main floor is a great gathering place and the finished basement provided a great place for the kids to play while adults relaxed or played games on the main floor and on the patio. The lake access is easy and the lake is beautiful. Several nights we played volleyball and basketball at the shared green space and park shared with all residents and Mitiwanga. This was a great place for my extended family to get together and enjoy ourselves, but not feel cramped. It is comfortable, and charming, but not stuffy. It is updated and we often used the oven in the second kitchen in the basement to heat food for our large group. There was plenty of parking.
It is so gratifying to know that our guests appreciate the beauty and comfort of our house and lake community as much as we do. We try to make little improvements yearly to ensure that guests have a sweet, memorable experience!
Our family had a wonderful time and we are so grateful to have been able to stay here. It was very convenient to our family and all of the attractions. It is always so special to come back home and be in mitiwanga where much of my family grew up.
We had to clean a little when we got there but overall the house is lovely and accommodated us well.
Great Place to Stay for an Extended Family
We had a week long family reunion here in June and this was a perfect location. The house provided space for the children and adults to connect and hang out both together and separately. The kids spent lots of time playing in the finished basement while the adults hung out on the back porch or the great room. It was a short walk to the kid friendly beach where we spent many hours. It is also a short drive to Cedar Point. I would recommend this for a fun, charming place to stay.
Cedar Point is famous for multiple roller coasters with a beautiful lake view from the rides. Historic hotel and large beach accessible. Voted 'best amusement park in the world' for 15 years running. Quaint village with unique shopping nearby.
Local wineries abound. The North Coast is a Bird- watching haven. Whether your interest is migratory birds or birds of prey, there is something for every nature lover. Unlimited family entertainment found on the coast and on the surrounding islands.
