Serenity & Beauty At Vintage Craftsman/Farmhouse-Double Mountain View, Hot Tub

Bedrooms 4
Space 2,500 sq. ft.
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Comfortably Furnished Antiques/modern 4BR, 2BA, 2 Fireplaces Sleeps 8-10

Recline in the glow of the fire, choose the luxury leather reclining sofa in the living room or the canopy bed inthe Master. In this historic* country refuge, brand new to VRBO, feel your tension ease whether inside or if you're drawn outside, to soak in the hot tub, watch the stars against the alpine glow on Mt. Hood or Mt. Adams. Venture beyond the immediate 3/4 fenced acre, 20 minutes to Mt. hood Meadows, 12 to Hood River, windsurfing or ?, or if weather permits, snow-shoe/crosscountry out the door. Inside, enjoy the cozy feel of a true early 20th century craftsman farmhouse, catch a different grove or peak from each of the 4 bedrooms original windows, luxuriate on the heated terra cotta kitchen floor as you pull up a stool for coffee and a long gaze at Mt. Hood.

Spring brings pear/apple blossoms all around as you imagine yourself in a sea of popcorn from the coziness of the canopy bed, or overlooking the puffs against the lingering snows of Adama. Later in the season, pick cherries, raspberries, and other fruit right in your own garden.

Wild life may be as close as the walks 2 'blocks' away with deer and the rare sighting of bear, martens, cougar, and fox - or a duck or albino peacock may surprise you right in front of the house. They like the pond and the miniature koi too!

Currently, the sauna is being refurbished, but by spring, the lawns and gardens will draw you outside to barbecue, sit and enjoy mountain views and scents of flowers, or hot tub and sweat. Meanwhile, pick a BlueRay or Netflix or Amazon Instant Prime or music or head to Parkdale (5minutes) for music, beer, and barbecue, or down to Hood River for a variety of activities.

A special place, the century-old grove outside the French doors of the Master, and fire ring from long-ago stage trails draws one in a calm, reflective, nurturing embrace with nature.

Come for a weekend, stay a week, get in touch!

About Dolores Maggiore

The Dee home has been my refuge since 1994 when I relocated to Hood River. Coming from the suburbs of New York, I was smitten with the beauty of this area and had to pinch myself everyday driving back from work in Hood River to Dee (12 minutes of ecstasy) to believe my good fortune and to insure that Mt. Hood looming up as I rounded a bend was truly real and not a mirage.

Dolores Maggiore purchased this farmhouse in 1994

Why Dolores Maggiore chose Mt. Hood, The Gorge

The property has always provided the buffer from too much activity, whether city activity(Hood River) or sporting activity(Mt Hood Meadows/Government Camp). And yet, hiking, snow-shoeing, cross country skiing is right at the doorstep.Good food and drink and entertainmentmcan be found 5 minutes away without sacrificing the calm and meditative serenity that my home and my property inspire.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Not being a morning (or late night) person, I am brought to life each morning (weather permitting) as I feast my eyes on the view of Mt Hood from the kitchen, especially when the magnolia or the Hawthorn are in bloom. At night, the stars and the alpine glow on Mt Hood and Mt Adams delight me. Over the years, I have made it a practice to sleep in every room for the unique feel and view each offers. For example, last summer, the upstairs 'Adams' room offered spectacular lightning and thunder storms over the Washington Cascades.

fun weekend

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed the house outside of Hood River. Very quiet, everything that we needed was there. Short drive to restaurants, shopping and beverage tasting.

Lovely old home surrounded by a vineyard.

  • 4 of 5

My friends and I really enjoyed our stay at this unique home located in Hood River, OR. The house was well-kempt and surrounded by a beautiful vineyard. The inside decor was fun and the big back yard included a deck and hot tub. The home is in a great location right in between Hood River City Center and Lost Lake resort. The only complaint we had was the lack of air/cooling upstairs. Fans would have proved helpful. Regardless, a great time was had by all.

Cute farm house

  • 4 of 5

This is a cute farm house. It was in the exact location we wanted so excited we were able to rent it. It is clean. Walk behind the property and see a full view of Mt. Hood. We had 4 couples so appreciated all bedrooms with queen beds. It's a bit rustic because it is an old farmhouse but that is also the charm. Lots of floor and bed squeaks. The kitchen was large and fully stocked. We enjoyed sitting out in the backyard in the morning, I would suggest trimming back the large tree growing across the deck. It took up half the deck so easier to sit in the yard. We enjoyed our visit.

Unsafe for kids, stinky!!!

  • 1 of 5

Our family had booked this home for 3 days, we arrived late evening to a musty home. No hot water in the downstairs bathroom, dangerous rigged staircase railing, it had a old door turned sideways with a metal clip holding on there. My son put his hand on it and it rocked back and forth. The "hot tub" was an inflatable dirty gross mess. The side room off the kitchen wreaked of animal urine. There was animal poop on the deck that I scrapped off with a snow shovel. There were a few cigarette butts on the deck. The house is way out of town. We left the next day and stayed in a hotel. I called the owner the day we left and she was apologetic and i asked her for some of our $ back. She said she would. The owner sent me an email saying the housekeeper refuted all my complaints except for the hot tub was dirty. We will see if the owner does keep her word and refunds our money. Seriously disappointed!! The owner should really take the time and go see it herself. The house did not look like the pictures.

Owner's Response: I have never had a complaint like this, nor has my integrity ever been questioned before. My housekeeper and workmen have been with me for several years: I trust their word. As the guest said, they refuted her claims, including the claim of the presence of a red fox(extinct in the area). The guest booked by phone very late the previous day; I told her up front that the hot tub might not be ready as it was too late for my workman to get to the house to clean outside facilities. I am sorry that the guest didn't read the description of the setting for the home: located 12 miles South of Hood River, closer to the mountain and obviously snow covered (no poop visible). Nothing is "rigged", but I wouldn't allow a young child to wander unescorted in any farm house. Despite my better judgment and further details being added to the complaints, I refunded over a full night's rent. As I initially apologized to the guest, I told her I was troubled that she didn't call me immediately, allowing me to address and correct any concerns she had. Again, I must add that my integrity has never been questioned before.

Comfortable home near Mt. Hood

We enjoyed our stay at the Parkdale house. It is simple and comfortable and met all our needs. I especially appreciated the owner's quick response to questions and her readiness to correct small mistakes in billing. Overall a good visit!

Lovely home, responsive owner/operator!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with 10 friends for my annual birthday trip, and it was wonderful. The house is gorgeous - it's clearly older, with some interesting additions along the garage and kitchen, but it has excellent modern amenities and upgrades. We stayed over a bitterly cold weekend with temps in the single digits, but the house stayed warm and cozy the whole time, and the hot water didn't suffer at all.

We arrived after 2+ feet of snow had fallen and the driveway and walkways were clear and easy to navigate. The entry way was more than big enough to accommodate our boots & gloves after our Saturday hike. We had a wonderful time talking, reading, and playing board games by the fire; and the kitchen was big enough to pull together big meals for us all.

Dolores was incredibly responsive and helpful to all our questions, as well as some changes to my itinerary. She even sent a maintenance person out midday on Saturday to try to un-freeze the hot tub. (Their efforts were no match for the weather, but we were hesitant to brave the short trot to the tub in the cold anyway, so we didn't suffer from the lack.) Very easy to work with.

I would say the only significant downside of this house is that while it does indeed comfortably sleep 10 or 12 people, there is definitely not sufficient seating (living or dining room) for that many people. We didn't mind hanging out on cushions on the floor, but if you're more civilized, the common areas are better suited to 4-6 people.

Overall a wonderful time at a great house - I'd love to see what it's like in the summer!
