Fantastic property

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I celebrated our 30th anniversary at the Hummingbird House in September, 2017. The house is spacious, beautiful and came with everything we needed. We enjoyed being on our own private island, yet so close to Placencia Village. What a way to spend a week in Belize. Edwin, the caretaker, took very good care of his and we enjoyed spending time with his family. Boots and Moon welcomed us every morning!

True Belizan Experience!!!

  • 5 of 5

We have to admit, the first night we were there, we didn't know if we were going to be able to sleep without AC. The owner Tom was very upfront about not having it, however, so we powered through the first night to get our bodies used to the heat (we were there in rainy/hot season). However, the home itself and the people we got to meet quickly removed any concern we had about our great 7 day honeymoon adventure. The Belizan culture and people have touched our lives in so many ways that we didn't even realize they would. From Edwin and Gennevy, the caretaker and his daughter, to Brenda's Caribbean Cooking, to Mark and Myrna Leslie at Cayequest Tours we were treated to a vacation of a lifetime. This home is a great space and has a lot of room, The thing we liked most about it was that it utilized the local woods and accessories that didn't make it feel like some of the new huge houses being built (we are not a fan of those). The accommodations were more than adequate and the island is extremely safe. If you are lucky enough to get to stay here, you wont regret it. Here are a few places that we enjoyed while in Placencia. Brenda's Carribean cooking (If you go to the main dock and look for the lady who is hollering at people and smell great food, let your nose lead you to Brenda), Cayequest tours (Mark, Myrna, and family our great Belizan people and have a deep rooted understanding of the culture and history of Belize.), and Wendy's restaurant (just off the dock and past the market, this is more of a sit down type of experience with lots of good creole goodies). As you can hopefully tell from this post, our excitement and enjoyment of this trip was second to nothing I have ever experienced, and I have traveled internationally a fair amount.

Wish we had stayed longer!!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 as well as my parents LOVED our stay at the Hummingbird house!! The house is beautiful, the construction and all of the natural wood is amazing! The giant doors and indoor outdoor living was everything you think of on a vacation! It wasn't too hot and there was a very constant breeze so the fact that there was no AC was not an issue for us. We did experience a few bugs, however it was not too bad due to the breeze. The orientation of the house is perfect with the wind hitting the front of the house and the dock and porch on the back side of the house. My parents had the master and said that they really enjoyed the experience of the outside shower. I used the guest bath which the entire room is the shower. I had seen this but never experienced it, I am sold. Edwin and his family were great, very helpful. I had emailed Tom ahead of time because I have a 7 year old son and the house said it isn't suitable for kids under 10. I would say one of the best parts of the visit was my son having another 7 year old to keep him busy and play with, he spent all day playing with Edwin's daughter and didn't want to leave because he was having such a great time. We also loved the dogs, Boots and Moon, but we are all dog lovers!! Our only regret was that we only had 3 days at the hummingbird house. The island is great, the little boat ride to town is perfect! If we make our way back to Placencia we will for sure stay here again. We rented a car in Belize city and drove the Hummingbird highway to get to Placencia. The drive is not for the faint of heart, between the single lane bridges, trucks, people on bikes, and constant speed humps (sleeping policeman) it is a CRAZY drive. People drive whatever speed and pass whenever, be prepared. Placencia is a super cute town, it was our favorite after exploring San Pedro, Belmopan, Dangriga, and Hopkins. Placencia is the place to stay in Belize!!

This home was absolutely beautiful and met all our family needs. It was great to be just minutes from town, but even better for the privacy of being on our own little island. We enjoyed the fishing, evening paddle boarding and the ability to cook our own dinners. Be sure to use the mosquito thing next to the beds it really seamed to help. When the wind is not blowing it gets kinda bad so make sure to have allot of bug spray on hand. Make sure to enjoy the sunsets on the deck they are amazingly beautiful. One night we were paddle boarding and got to see a school of needle fish jumping over our boards. The outside shower was fantastic, but you have to wait a few minutes for hot water which was just fine as we enjoyed waiting looking at the stars. There is a few grocery stores to grab all you needs to cook your favorite meals, make sure to get charcoal and starter if you want to BBQ your dinners. Edwin and his family were very delightful and always helped us out with getting where we needed to go when we needed it. Look out for Boots and Moon as they are shoe thieves LOL. We enjoyed both of them as well. There was some good fishing right there on the island bring bate like shrimp and sardines. You might want to give Edwin a call to find some better rates to get you from Belize City to Placencia as it is outrageous if you do not pre-arrange your ride. We fished, spear fished, snorkled, swam with Nurse Sharks, saw the Manatee's, kayaked with the dolphins, when to Monkey River, Zipped lined, hiked to beautiful waterfalls and took amazing rides on motorcycles, visited chocolate factory had lunch at the spice farm, paddled board, enjoyed great food and drinks from places like: Tipsy Tuna (great drinks(spendy)) , Omars, Secrete Garden (our favorite), Barefoot (great music and best drink prices) and of course Wendy's and Cozy Corner (best breakfast) all this from this location. See Evan on the sidewalk to make you your own personalized carving. Can't wait to return. Thank you Tom and Edwin for making our family vacation the best.

Beautiful getaway

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough good words about this beautiful home! Tom was incredibly helpful and responsive to all questions/requests. The caretaker of the home, Edwin, was especially accommodating, shuttling us whenever we needed to mainland Placencia. 8 adult women slept comfortably in this home. I cannot wait to plan my next trip in Belize!
