Cottage Mary Rose is a beautiful 18th century, white-washed, thatched roof cottage. One of Ireland's few remaining, it is what you dream of when thinking of Ireland. Nestled in the pastoral valley of Mount Eagle with a stream running through the peaceful cottage garden. We boast an all natural garden. It is surrounded by its original dry stone walls and fuchsia.
You are welcomed by the bright red double door. As you enter, you get the feeling that you have stepped back in time. With its stone fireplace and high lofted ceilings in the sitting room it is a great room for conversation and games. Antiques fill the cottage with traditional and comfortable furniture as well. It is amazing to think of what this cottage has survived. It has truly come a long way from traditional Irish life to having the luxuries we dream of. There is a Jacuzzi tub and dishwasher as well as a bright red Aga stove so you can actually enjoy cooking. Truly an ideal place to call home while exploring the many treasures of CountyKerry. Internet now available.

About William Harty
My family is of Irish descent. Our first time to the Emerald Isle was in 1996. I fell in love with it as every one does and knew then that some day I would have a home there.........a Thatched Cottage. Being involved in architechture,I had always been fascinated in thatched roof cottages. When I purchased Cottage Mary Rose in 2000 I never realised how much I would fall in love with it. It is my true passion, named after my mother, Mary Rose Bowler, I wanted to share this amazing bit of Irish History with others....
William Harty purchased this Cottage in 2000
Why William Harty chose Cordal
I wanted a historic thatched cottage off of the beaten track but close enough to tourist attractions. I am an avid gardener and knew that this location was perfect for a great garden. There are fuschia & camelias every where! The stream was the frosting on the cake. So dramatic because of the ravine and rushing water below. The sound is so calming and tranquil. I preferred the small village of Cordal because you get a TRUE feel of the real Ireland instead of the touristy areas. I was happy enough with the Church and Kearney's Grocer.....I thought all it needed was a pub......my dream was answered and Hughes Pub was built by Sean Hughes a local Cordal lad in 2006. It is a beautiful pub and great for local gab, a great Pint and a game of pool. All with in a 5 minute walk. Our great cottage has stood the test of time. I love sharing this peice of Heaven with others.........
What makes this Cottage unique
Cottage Mary Rose is a wonderful blend of a living bit of history. Add to this a Jacuzzi tub, rain shower and hot tub over looking a stream and you have it all. We even provide WiFi internet connection. Large kitchen which is wonderful for entertaining. The Heritage cooker is probably the best method of cooking food. Besides the Irish farm table there is also a front patio for dining and the deck where you can dine with the sounds of the peaceful stream and song of the birds. Nothing beats relaxing in the hot tub at the end of a long day while enoying the stars above...........absolute Heaven.............

Fantastic family time
Where to begin? My siblings and I were completely enchanted by the photos of Cottage Mary Rose when we first began looking for cottages for our mother's dream family vacation in Ireland. As a lover of old homes, we knew she would love it too.
And she did. We were a little late arriving because we had popped a tire somewhere near the Cliffs of Moher (woops, welcome to Ireland!), but Denis was very gracious and was there to greet us with a loaf of amazing brown bread and a warm peat fire. There were 6 of us and there was lots of space. We enjoyed our home cooked breakfasts and usually ate lunch and dinner out, save for a couple of nights where we made pasta, drank wine, and hung out playing cards by the fireplace.
We loved the hot tub! So much privacy and serenity with no one but the crows anywhere around.
If you are looking for a remote-feeling spot, without actually being that far from restaurants etc, this is a fantastic place. On one night where we decided to go out to some bars and take in the nightlife in Killarney, we hired a mini bus to drive us. It was 10 euros per person each way, really not bad.
William and EileenMary emailed during the stay to see if we needed anything and made recommendations of places to catch live music, and where to spend St. Patrick's Day.
I already miss the smell of the burning peat fire, the smooth wooden floors and the babbling brook in the yard. I can't wait to return to Cottage Mary Rose some day as our family grows.
Fabulous Irish experience!
My sister and brother-in-law(Gallagher) and us(Flaherty) discovering our Irish roots. Amazing place to explore from. Denis and Eileenmary were wonderful, great suggestions and a very warm welcome. Absolutely lovely cottage, just what we were hoping for. There four nights, three busy traveling days, including Dingle Peninsula and Cork plus one "take a breath day" just relaxing at Mary Rose(hot tub and walking). Dinner at River Island Inn, Castleisland was delicious and everyone needs to stop at Hughes for a pint. Thank you William, Denis and Eileenmary for such a memorable stay in the heart of the Irish countryside! We would love to return one day!
Not enough time!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Dennis greeted us and showed us all we needed to know and gave excellent recommendations for eating in the area. The whole cottage is very well equipped. Store close by for essentials and bigger one in Castleisland. The grounds are amazing and would have loved to have spent more time just enjoying. Even though the cottage is close to the road it was not noticeable at all. For the 5 nights we stayed it was a great base for visiting County Kerry.
Fun, relaxing base 'camp'!
Perfect for 2 couples, lovely fire & hot tub, kitchen worked well for gourmet spouse. Great base for exploring Kerry & Cork, also fun just to chill in the cottage. Excellent welcome!
LOVED Cottage Mary Rose
Could not have loved this place more! Stayed here 2 nights towards the end of our 8 day trip to Ireland with my husband and daughter. It came at the perfect time in the trip. It was so nice to take a break from hotels and b and b's and have this beautiful place to ourselves. We bbqed both nights and enjoyed quiet, candle lit dinners around the farm table in the kitchen. Soaked our weary sight seeing bones in the hot tub each night and slept peacefully in this quiet countryside cottage.
