About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5-7)

Cottage Mary Rose is a beautiful 18th century, white-washed, thatched roof cottage. One of Ireland's few remaining, it is what you dream of when thinking of Ireland. Nestled in the pastoral valley of Mount Eagle with a stream running through the peaceful cottage garden. We boast an all natural garden. It is surrounded by its original dry stone walls and fuchsia.

You are welcomed by the bright red double door. As you enter, you get the feeling that you have stepped back in time. With its stone fireplace and high lofted ceilings in the sitting room it is a great room for conversation and games. Antiques fill the cottage with traditional and comfortable furniture as well. It is amazing to think of what this cottage has survived. It has truly come a long way from traditional Irish life to having the luxuries we dream of. There is a Jacuzzi tub and dishwasher as well as a bright red Aga stove so you can actually enjoy cooking. Truly an ideal place to call home while exploring the many treasures of CountyKerry. Internet now available.

About William Harty

My family is of Irish descent. Our first time to the Emerald Isle was in 1996. I fell in love with it as every one does and knew then that some day I would have a home there.........a Thatched Cottage. Being involved in architechture,I had always been fascinated in thatched roof cottages. When I purchased Cottage Mary Rose in 2000 I never realised how much I would fall in love with it. It is my true passion, named after my mother, Mary Rose Bowler, I wanted to share this amazing bit of Irish History with others....

William Harty purchased this cottage in 2000

Why William Harty chose County Kerry

I wanted a historic thatched cottage off of the beaten track but close enough to tourist attractions. I am an avid gardener and knew that this location was perfect for a great garden. There are fuschia & camelias every where! The stream was the frosting on the cake. So dramatic because of the ravine and rushing water below. The sound is so calming and tranquil. I preferred the small village of Cordal because you get a TRUE feel of the real Ireland instead of the touristy areas. I was happy enough with the Church and Kearney's Grocer.....I thought all it needed was a pub......my dream was answered and Hughes Pub was built by Sean Hughes a local Cordal lad in 2006. It is a beautiful pub and great for local gab, a great Pint and a game of pool. All with in a 5 minute walk. Our great cottage has stood the test of time. I love sharing this peice of Heaven with others.........

What makes this cottage unique

Cottage Mary Rose is a wonderful blend of a living bit of history. Add to this a Jacuzzi tub, rain shower and hot tub over looking a stream and you have it all. We even provide WiFi internet connection. Large kitchen which is wonderful for entertaining. The Heritage cooker is probably the best method of cooking food. Besides the Irish farm table there is also a front patio for dining and the deck where you can dine with the sounds of the peaceful stream and song of the birds. Nothing beats relaxing in the hot tub at the end of a long day while enoying the stars above...........absolute Heaven.............

Fantastic Traditional Cottage in Beautiful Location

  • 5 of 5

Cottage Mary Rose was definitely a highlight of our Irish vacation. This thatched roof cottage has been impeccably restored with modern touches added, like a hot tub, dishwasher, and washer/dryer. The caretakers were warm and friendly. Really nice garden and patio area. We loved sitting by the peat fire and relaxing by candlelight in the evenings. It felt like a step back in time. We would highly recommend Cottage Mary Rose to others searching for a traditional Irish experience.

Quintessential Irish House

  • 5 of 5

This is the house I think of when someone says Ireland. This cozy, quaint, but updated, cottage was perfect!!! Denis and Eileenmary made us so welcome. Eileen provided homemade soda bread and a huge Cadbury bar. Denis had a peat fire laid for us to just light, which we did! The hot tub was a nice modern update. Wifi was disappointing, but Denis warned us it would be slow. Really was unusable....but do you have to have internet everywhere? Very easy to find, but Eileen led us there...much appreciated. I truly loved this property.

Make the most amazing family memories here in this perfect Irish Cottage

  • 5 of 5

From weeks before we arrived we knew this was going to be the perfect stop on our ten day trip to Ireland. We stayed our last four nights in Cordal and they were some of our best. The owner, the caretakers, the people of the community showed kindness, knowledge and wonderful hospitality. When we arrived there were candies for our children and delicious brown bread amongst other treats. The cottage was perfectly clean, plenty of linens, towels and anything we needed to cook. We grocery shopped in Castleisland, went down to Killarney and toured that beautiful town, did the Ring of Kerry and explored the countryside of Cordal. We were even able to catch a G.A.A match down the road. Hughes Pub is a must stop. Make sure you say a quick prayer or two in the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Take the time to talk to people and get to know just how wonderful the people of Ireland are and take the time to listen. We would love to come back. I would highly recommend this to families, or couples. I can not say enough positive things about this gem in Cordal.

Even these lovely photos don't do Cottage Mary Rose justice, it is superb, decorated beautifully and caretakers Denis and Eileen are such warm, friendly people that you are assured the warmest of welcomes. Can't wait to return one day soon, hopefully. Thank you !!

Absolutely perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We loved Mary Rose Cottage. Such a beautiful cottage with so much history. The attention to detail was amazing, and the beds were soooo comfortable! We lit a peat fire every night and it was wonderful. Denis (the caretaker) built the first peat fire before we got there and it was a work of art. We followed his lead and built them the next 2 night! His wife made us some homemade brown bread and it was delicious! We had it for breakfast every morning. It was the perfect cottage and the best place we stayed on our trip. If you're looking for a quiet man type cottage or a hobbit hole, this is the place (only bigger.) We really miss it! Only downside was the wifi didn't work, but hey you don't stay in an Irish cottage just so you can sit on Facebook all day haha. So I really didn't mind the wifi not working. Enjoyed the peat fires and snuggling with my husband so much more!! Love love love your cottage and would definitely stay again if we make it back to Ireland.

Owner's Response: We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay. We were unaware of the WiFi situation and will address this asap. Our amazing care takers if called upon will be more than happy to take care of any issues at all. Yours Sincerely, William Harty, Cottage Mary Rose,

Cottage Mary Rose - Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

Cottage Mary Rose met all of our expectations. The old world charm made you feel like you were living back in time but with all the new world conveniences! Even before we arrived Eileen and Denis were checking in with us to make sure we had arrived safely and were on our way from the airport. When we got to the cottage they had lit candles throughout and set out fruit and homemade Irish Soda Bread. It was magical! I can't say enough about the caretakers. They sent messages throughout the week with suggestions on events in the area and to see if we needed anything. Denis even offered to stop by and setup another fire in the fireplace for us. The cottage was neat and clean and wonderfully decorated. I loved looking at all of the pictures and paintings as well as the unique old world touches throughout. We found the cottage was a good base for all of our travels and a short drive to many interesting areas. The hot tub certainly provided a nice respite a the end of the day. While the cottage is not near town (one of the benefits), we found good restaurants/pubs and larger well-stocked grocery stores in nearby CastleIsland. We would definitely return to Cottage Mary Rose and highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic 'Irish' experience!
