Overview

About the property

5 BRs/2 BA with outdoor enclosed/heated shower. Sunny, happy, cottage-like home!

How often can you feel the ocean mist tickle your toes while sitting on a covered porch, over looking the Atlantic? Or yell up your lunch order from the sand and know someone in the kitchen can hear it and tend to it perfectly? Well, it's not quite that good, but pretty darn close at Back to the Beach on Oak Island. Our sweet, sunny, happy home is literal steps from the back door to the water and the closeness to the ocean creates an unforgettable experience for those who make it their home while visiting Oak Island. Everything just seems easier; no dreaded long walk dragging your every need for the day through hot sand, no fighting over who has to go back to the house to refill the cooler. And when the day is done, you can go straight from the beach to the shower with our fully enclosed, heated water outdoor shower(because -who really wants to clean sand out of tubs while on vacation, anyway?!)

Back to the Beach is a short 0.2 of a mile from Middleton Road, which is the middle of the island. To the East is restaurants, shopping, ice cream and putt putt . To the West , marina, fishing, crabbing, and watching the sun set so close to you, you feel you could reach out and touch it. The beautiful, new Lowes grocery store on 211 is just minutes from our house! And if you arrive on Oak Island from 211 South, you can count on shaving 25 minutes off your drive by cutting 'Long Beach' in half because of the new Middleton bridge.

If relaxed, carefree days with family and friends is what you are looking for in your beach vacation this year, then look no more. Back to the Beach has you covered - from amenities, to comfort, to making memories that will last a lifetime, it's all a few clicks away! See more photos at 'Back to Beach' board on Pinterest!

About Beth Bean

The owners of Back to the Beach are three families who love the Atlantic Coast and particularly love Oak Island with its simple charm and natural beauty. We all live within a couple of hours of each other, have been lifelong friends, and enjoy time together at Back to the Beach making lifelong memories.

Beth Bean purchased this house in 2010

Why Beth Bean chose Long Beach

We vacationed on Oak Island for years and fell in love with it's simple, small town charm, affordability and beautiful, clear beaches. We love how the island offers a perfect mix of ocean/sand/salt air and marsh/oaks/pines. And we find something new to enjoy from all of the wildlife, natural scenery and activity that both sides of the island brings, every time we visit.

Oak Island is one of the most friendly places we have ever vacationed. The locals here love the renters and it shows! We enjoy not having to wait too long for a dinner reservation or fight traffic to get where we are going. It's a family style, casual beach that treats you like one of the family and yet it is close enough to Wilmington and Myrtle that if you want the things larger beach cities offer, they are easily within reach.

We love the history, restaurants and shopping in Southport. On the island there is golf, tennis, a skate park, natural areas and walking trails, marina with deep sea fishing - Oak Island truly has it all!

What makes this house unique

When we began looking for vacation properties, Back to the Beach was the first house the realtor showed us. We looked at each other and said 'This will be hard to beat.' Its sunny, happy, light-hearted feeling captivated us from the moment we walked in. And when we stepped onto the oceanfront deck and realized we could practically FEEL the ocean on our face - we were sold!

We love the layout of the home and how the whole main floor is a panoramic view of the ocean. The bedrooms are large and spacious. And being on West Beach close to Middleton and the new bridge is a top spot on the island!

But what do we love most? How exclusive the beachfront feels in front of our house! Maybe it is the empty lot to the right of ours that makes us feel like we scored our own private beach on Oak Island? We don't know. But when we are here, we really get a sense that we have gotten away from it all and this little piece of heaven is all ours!

Wonderful view!

The accommodations were perfect for our family Christmas! The house was conveniently located, clean and has a great porch for watching the waves.

Beautiful Home with a Lovely View

  • 5 of 5

The house was very nice. We had plenty of room for the 10 members of my family. My mother loves Oak Island and enjoyed sitting in a rocking chair watching her grand daughters surf fish. We had a fire by the ocean two nights (don't forget your free permit for this time of year).

The pier was very close, so the guys and my niece didn't have far to go to fishing.

There were puzzles, games, cards for entertainment at night. Books in every room for anyone interested. Redbox is right down the street if you wanted to rent a movie. The grocery store and ABC store are right down the street, also.

Southport is very close to Oak Island. The Christmas House is beautiful and has very inexpensive ornaments. Mr. and Mrs. Clause were on the corner for picture taking and candy cane giving. Lots of little shops, and wine tasting too.

We would definitely go back to this property!

The owner, Beth Bean is wonderful to work with. She responds back to you within 24 hours, usually sooner. She let us know that the house is sprayed every 3 months, and said if we saw an abundance of palmetto bugs to give her a call and she would get someone out their ASAP. We saw one palmetto bug and one carpenter ant (that is basically nothing - we used to have a place at the beach and you can always expect palmetto bugs). I asked Beth if she could recommend some restaurants for our stay, and she was more than happy to provide us with a list.

Suggestions and FYI's:

1. Queen bedroom downstairs did not have any pillow cases (no problem for me because I brought my own pillow with pillow case, so I did not contact Beth, but feel sure she would have gotten some over there right away, if I had notified her).

2. The exhaust fan in the upstairs bath does not work, just and FYI.

3. The TV remote for one of the bedrooms upstairs is missing (it's either the twin room or the queen room - almost positive it is the queen room).

4. My mom is 87 and decided she wanted to sleep upstairs. She has had partial removal of one lung and recently had a knee replacement. She wanted me to mention that a handrail going up the stairs and a rubber bathmat in the bath would make it easier on the elderly, and safer, also.

5. There were a lot of flys, screen door and screens put back in the windows would take care of this situation.

6. Just and FYI, there are two thermostats, one downstairs and one upstairs. The one upstairs is inside the twin bedroom. It is set at 55 degrees.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to host your family and we are happy to hear you had such a wonderful time! Thanks for the review. Housekeeping is checking out the missing pillow cases and remote control as I write. Thermostats are left on 55 when guests check out, but incoming guests are free to raise and lower the temps on both units to their comfort level. The TV in the living room is a smart TV so Netflix, Hulu and the like are available if you don’t feel like leaving the home for a movie. Future guests - there is no exhaust fan in the upstairs bathroom. There is a heating and air vent in the ceiling that may have been mistaken for a broken exhaust fan. We are working on replacing window screens that have corroded through the years due to salt air. They will be up again soon! Winter is a lovely time to stay on Oak Island! We do hope you will come back!

OUR BEACH HOUSE!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 11 has vacationed at Back To The Beach for several summers. We love the quiet location, the wonderful porch, the outside shower, the overall comfort of the house and the chance of witnessing the miracle of a sea turtle nest hatching! The owner is easily accessible and accommodating. We feel as if we are renting from a good friend! Our only regret is only being able to spend one week a year there!

Awesome! We really loved everything about our stay...except maybe the weather.

  • 5 of 5

Loved this beach front home. We spent most of our time outside even with all the rain. We felt like we had our own personal beach out front. The deck was big (kept us out of rain a lot of the time) and the rocking chairs were great. The house had plenty of room, the kitchen was the best supplied kitchen we have ever seen, loved the big dining room table (great for meal gatherings) but also awesome for playing games. The location was great for walking, bike riding, and for easy access to stores, shopping etc. We would definitely go back.....hopefully they will have a new grill by then... thanks for a great week at the beach.

Our family had another super vacation at Back to the Beach! Love the new floors and shutters...and thank you for adding the Keurig coffee maker. This was our 6th or 7th year at this awesome house and I've already booked it for next year's week of July 4th!

Thank you for sharing your home!

Map

213 W. Beach Drive, Oak Island, NC. Our house is not far past Middleton Road - perfect location! West Beach, quiet, family area, but right in the middle of the island, where either side of the island is easy to get to. We have an empty lot beside us, so the beach is practically all ours. Access is literally at the bottom of our walkway. You will love how easy things are at Back to the Beach!
