Overview

About the property

Open Plan Cottage With 2 Bedrooms And Stunning Views Of Harbour And Gardens.

This home was created my parents, she a keen gardener from England, he an educator  and businessman who was raised in the community. They  retired here and created a  unique environment amid the rugged setting of an authentic fishing village.  The home is surrounded by hand-planted trees and gardens, and it offers fabulous views of Old  Bonaventure harbour and beautiful  Trinity Bay.     At the rear of the house a small waterfall flows into a stream which runs right under the  house and through the front lawn, providing a most relaxing soundscape for restful  nights of sleep and memorable afternoon naps.     The two double bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, accommodate four adults.  There is a large, well-equipped kitchen with double ovens, a five-ring stove top and a dishwasher, along with every imaginable utensil. There is a breakfast area positioned

beneath a skylight, and a more formal dining table overlooking the harbour. The comfortable lounge area is especially cosy with plenty of seating. It also features an inviting

Vermont Castings wood-burning stove with a supply of firewood. Wi-fi internet access

reaches all parts of the house and property. For entertainment,  there is a flatscreen TV with Bell satellite service. DVD and CD players are also provided, along with a Bluetooth speaker for iPhones, etc.  A landline phone is provided, with  Canada/US wide unlimited long distance calling. This helps offset the fact that, like most rural Newfoundland communities, Old Bonaventure is not serviced by any cell phone service provider.

The secluded garden features a pond and a wide variety of plants that provide  spectacular colour throughout the spring/summer/fall seasons. The harbourfacing side of the house has a deck (with a gas BBQ). On warm days,  this is a perfect spot to enjoy sunsets, watch fishing boats come and go, and to see  magnificent eagles soar overhead from their nearby nests. There is a glassroofed  conservatory which is perfect for enjoying those cooler days and for stargazing at  night. For the musically inclined, there is also a superb piano. For readers, there is a  huge selection of books that cover every interest. Finally, there is an ample collection of  board games and playing cards.    This inviting home is the ideal retreat for a restful and restorative holiday. And when  you are rested, numerous nearby attractions await to connect you with the beauty and  fascinating history of this special part of Newfoundland. For instance, the film site of the acclaimed “Random Passage” series is just a five minute drive. (Just one of four films  shot in this area in recent years.) Hiking trails take you to the resettled outports of  Kerley’s Harbour and British Harbour. The Skerwink Trail, an essential experience for  hikers with spectacular views, is just 30 minutes away. Boat excursions for  whalewatching and for glimpsing historic and enigmatic resettled outports depart daily  from New Bonaventure and Trinity. If that is not enough history to satisfy, the

500 year old town of Trinity is only 25 minutes away.

Newfoundland is famous for it's music and storytelling and there are many local concerts and festivals. If you are staying at Old Bonaventure House keep an eye out for our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Old-Bonaventure-House-783347731686141) where we regularly post local events for you to enjoy.

The options are endless...and the  comments of previous visitors speak for themselves! This is a holiday experience that  you will want to share with others.

Amazing, quirky house

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in this character house, it had everything you could possibly need. The huge kitchen is so well stocked with pots and pans and utensils and all four of us prepared and cooked together.

The beds are so comfy too with lots of pillows and extra covers.

The real bonus is finding a house for 4 adults with both bedrooms ensuite.

Fabulous place to stay.

We miss it already!

Exactly what my wife and I were looking for in order enjoy our 24th wedding anniversary. We looked at a lot of places around the island and elated that we picked the Old Bonaventure House! Very quiet, secluded, scenic and overall a "very cool" place to spend a few days. A perfect spot for two couples to visit for a relaxing time and spacious enough not to be in each others way. And if you like to cook, the kitchen is well stocked with just about everything you may need to get the job done. Looking forward to our next visit with some friends as this place should be shared. And thank you Dawne for sharing it with us. It was nice chatting with you and we look forward to seeing you again!

Charming and beautiful!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I were so happy to stay in this beautiful, magical home! It was absolutely stunning both inside and out. Dawn was an extremely kind and thoughtful host, and she left fresh flowers, coffee, and delicious chocolates for us. There is a great view of the harbour, a lovely in-tune piano (which we were very inspired to play), and soaking in the wonderful clawfoot bathtub after a long hike while listening to the waterfall out back is true relaxation at its best! The kitchen was wonderfully stocked with every kind of cookware and utensil imaginable. We saw whales in the harbour and had good chats with locals. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay for a whole week or more!!!!

Truly amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

It was breathtaking! We were greeted by Dawn who took the time to show us this beautiful, spotless property. There were fresh flowers everywhere in the house to greet us. Personal touches ... local coffee beans, teas &chocolate! The view!!! I could never tire of it! The whales playing just past the harbour... The walking trails we travelled each morning, the peaceful surrounds!! What a way to recharge ones soul! Had a lovely hike& chat with Heather. She was just as excited for us to be there as we were! She brought us a flower & bunchberry arrangement, so thoughtful. It was really hard to leave this place. If we come back this way, the Old Boneventure House would be my number 1 pic! Thank you so much for everything!
