Overview

About the property

Open Plan Cottage With 2 Bedrooms And Stunning Views Of Harbour And Gardens.

This home was created my parents, she a keen gardener from England, he an educator  and businessman who was raised in the community. They  retired here and created a  unique environment amid the rugged setting of an authentic fishing village.  The home is surrounded by hand-planted trees and gardens, and it offers fabulous views of Old  Bonaventure harbour and beautiful  Trinity Bay.     At the rear of the house a small waterfall flows into a stream which runs right under the  house and through the front lawn, providing a most relaxing soundscape for restful  nights of sleep and memorable afternoon naps.     The two double bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, accommodate four adults.  There is a large, well-equipped kitchen with double ovens, a five-ring stove top and a dishwasher, along with every imaginable utensil. There is a breakfast area positioned

beneath a skylight, and a more formal dining table overlooking the harbour. The comfortable lounge area is especially cosy with plenty of seating. It also features an inviting

Vermont Castings wood-burning stove with a supply of firewood. Wi-fi internet access

reaches all parts of the house and property. For entertainment,  there is a flatscreen TV with Bell satellite service. DVD and CD players are also provided, along with a Bluetooth speaker for iPhones, etc.  A landline phone is provided, with  Canada/US wide unlimited long distance calling. This helps offset the fact that, like most rural Newfoundland communities, Old Bonaventure is not serviced by any cell phone service provider.

The secluded garden features a pond and a wide variety of plants that provide  spectacular colour throughout the spring/summer/fall seasons. The harbourfacing side of the house has a deck (with a gas BBQ). On warm days,  this is a perfect spot to enjoy sunsets, watch fishing boats come and go, and to see  magnificent eagles soar overhead from their nearby nests. There is a glassroofed  conservatory which is perfect for enjoying those cooler days and for stargazing at  night. For the musically inclined, there is also a superb piano. For readers, there is a  huge selection of books that cover every interest. Finally, there is an ample collection of  board games and playing cards.    This inviting home is the ideal retreat for a restful and restorative holiday. And when  you are rested, numerous nearby attractions await to connect you with the beauty and  fascinating history of this special part of Newfoundland. For instance, the film site of the acclaimed “Random Passage” series is just a five minute drive. (Just one of four films  shot in this area in recent years.) Hiking trails take you to the resettled outports of  Kerley’s Harbour and British Harbour. The Skerwink Trail, an essential experience for  hikers with spectacular views, is just 30 minutes away. Boat excursions for  whalewatching and for glimpsing historic and enigmatic resettled outports depart daily  from New Bonaventure and Trinity. If that is not enough history to satisfy, the

500 year old town of Trinity is only 25 minutes away. The options are endless...and the  comments of previous visitors speak for themselves! This is a holiday experience that  you will want to share with others.

Great Newfoundland hospitality

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. The cottage was very roomy, well equipped and comfortable. Gwen went out of her way to make us feel welcome. The view of the harbour was great! We enjoyed the scenery, icebergs, seafood and various tours in the area. Thank you for a great vacation!

Solace for the soul!

  • 5 of 5

We loved it here. As soon as we walked through the door it felt like home. Open concept yet cosy, accented by the charm of the wood-burning stove. An oasis, complete with a natural waterfall, surrounded by lush gardens. Perfect for us in so many ways, including the peace and quiet, overlooking an active harbour. Dawne was a knowledgeable and attentive hostess. We'll be back!

Excellent house. It was and cozy and extremely well kept. Owner was very nice and she was there to greet us. Great community, secluded and scenic. With lots to do in the surrounding area (during the summer).

Warm and welcoming

  • 4 of 5

Our group, two couples and two dogs, recently spent thanksgiving weekend at this lovely spot. All of us immediately felt embraced by a homey atmosphere, like we were being welcomed into the home of well-loved relatives. A wonderful place to either relax indoors or to explore this magical part of the world. We will definitely be back again.

Hidden Paradise

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful get-away! My wife and I stayed in NL for two weeks at 7 different places and this was by far my favourite stay. The listing description was totally accurate regarding the location, layout, amenities, etc., and the property was and cottage were well-maintained ? The cottage was exceptionally well-prepared and equipped with lots of small details added. It was clean, homey, comfortable, had beautiful views and was absolutely enchanting. It's in a very quiet and quaint setting and a bit out of the way but perfect for a few days away from it all. Dawne the owner was terrific and provided excellent customer service. Excellent value for the dollar and very highly recommended!

Excellent for a quiet get-a-way

  • 5 of 5

An excellent property in a beautiful little community. So many small communities in the area to explore. A superbly equipped kitchen that inspires you to cook at home. The pictures did not do justice to the property. We stayed for 2 weeks and wished we could have stayed longer. A wonderful retreat and a wonderful hostess. Thanks for everything.
