THE CABIN AND THE LANDSCAPE

Welcome to Summit Retreat, a peaceful and well-loved home perched above the valley, with open views stretching to the Seven Sisters range and Skinner House on Mount Holyoke. This is a place to slow down, breathe deeply, and watch hawks drift overhead at noon while thrushes sing at dusk. The land is alive with herbs, vegetables, flowers, and healthy trees, all lovingly tended. A flat lawn invites play or rest, with a shady hammock ready for a nap. Expect visits from deer, rabbits, heron, and even the occasional bear, while the sky shifts from misty mountain mornings to brilliant blue afternoons.

Once a Conservation Corps cabin, the home has been reimagined by a well-traveled anthropologist who crafted each space with meaning and care. The result is both poetic and practical—a place for conversation, retreat, and inspiration.

Step outside onto the stone patio to enjoy your morning coffee, a good book, or dinner al fresco. Surrounded by tall grasses and birdsong, it’s the perfect spot to unwind and take in the hilltop breeze.

Summit Retreat is both wild and refined—a home in harmony with the land, designed to welcome, comfort, and inspire.

-A Note About Nature-
This is a rustic retreat, where you’ll be close to the land and its rhythms. Cloud banks roll across the hills, sunlight warms the stones, birds call at dawn, owls croon at dusk, and coyotes may howl at night.

Because the foundation is original and the home was built to be in tune with the land, nature occasionally comes indoors. Despite our best efforts, you may spot a field mouse, beetle, or small insect—just quiet visitors from the soil.

We grew up this way and see it as part of the exchange between home and earth, though we understand not everyone feels the same. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need support. We’re always happy to help.

-A Note From Us-
We are both born and raised in Western Massachusetts, and this land holds our roots. Vivian hails from Williamsburg, just a town over, where her family has farmed since the 1700s. This is not a corporation—it is our beloved family home, and we open it to you with deep trust.

This land is part of our story: Josiah took his first steps on the lawn, and he brought Vivian here on their third date to climb trees. Now, we hope to raise our son here, so that he, too, can learn the names of the birds and plants, just as we did. In his love for the land, we hope he will take up the role of steward, growing into respect for the world around him.

Thank you for being here. We hope Summit Retreat brings you the same peace, inspiration, and belonging it brings to us and those who have come before.
