and Certificate of Excellence for 2014.

A SPECIAL PLACE

Discover Cavalier Cottage B&B, a pet-friendly home away from your home and an attractive alternative to conventional hotels, motels and B&B’s. We warmly welcome visitors who come to this beautiful and diverse area of Western Massachusetts with or without their companion animals.

PET-FRIENDLY WAS THE IMPETUS FOR OPENING

Since opening the cottage in January of 2012, I’ve welcomed more guests than I could possibly have predicted or hoped. It seems that Cavalier Cottage has answered a need for truly pet-friendly accommodations. I could tell you stories about the wonderful four-leggeds who’ve enjoyed country walks here, not to mention their terrific two-legged companions. I could not have imagined that I’d meet such a variety of interesting people when I opened the cottage this past winter.

Nestled at the base of the Charlemont hills and located on a very quiet country road, Cavalier Cottage is spacious, bright and comfortable. The live-in area is simply but graciously appointed, featuring ceiling to floor windows, newly installed oak laminate flooring, a queen size bed with a deluxe Simmons plush-firm mattress, private entrance and private deck. The fully equipped kitchen has an eat-in area with a full size stove and refrigerator (in case you want to cook-in), and a private bathroom. Relax on the private deck and enjoy the country view. For entertainment, you can access Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and Acorn movies & shows, Dish TV with over 200 channels on a 28" flat screen TV, or play classic board games. To stay in touch with the outside world, the cottage is equipped with Wi-Fi. Park your car in an enclosed garage if you need to. Amenities also include a delicious Continental breakfast with Pat’s English scones, a small but growing library, and a CD player with a collection of jazz and classical CD’s.

CENTRAL LOCATION FOR ALL W.MA ATTRACTIONS

Cavalier Cottage is conveniently located to the Mohawk Trail (Route 2) and many outdoor activities: There are great hiking trails, river rafting, tubing, zip line canopy tours, horseback riding, tennis, golf, biking, snow shoeing, rock climbing, downhill and X-country skiing. The beautiful Massachusetts countryside, with its many quaint villages and towns, is also home to a great variety of iconic educational and cultural destinations, including MassMoCa, the Clarke Institute of Art on the Williams College campus, and many more. The area is a four-season vacation destination, from foliage time in the autumn, through ski season into spring hiking time and summer holidays. Time here is sublimely tranquil and peaceful.

A few more special features:

~A new exclusive cottage amenity:

~Tarot by Paris

Now available by appointment: Insightful, intelligent tarot readings by Paris Finley. You can schedule a reading at the cottage for only $35.00. Readings run 30 minutes to an hour.

~Our guests are now eligible for a 10% discount from Zoar Outdoors (just a few miles from the Cottage) for all their great outdoor activities including the very popular zip line canopy tours, kayaking, white water rafting and rock climbing!

~For dogs (and their human companions, too) who love to swim, we offer a map featuring three wonderful river and lake areas.

~Berkshire East ski area, just 15 minutes up Rt. 2 from the cottage, offers our guests $10.00 of each lift pass on a daily basis. Also during ski season the delightful West End Pub in Shelburne Falls provides cottage guests a 10% midweek discount (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) for dinner.

Please note:

As more guests have visited, many potential guests were unable to come because the dates they wanted were already booked. Because Cavalier Cottage can only accommodate one party of guests at a time, we highly recommend that if your desired dates are available, you secure the space by submitting a deposit (through the cottage website) or by booking it on-line on this site, in order to avoid disappointment. Cavalier Cottage, a cottage for all seasons, is perfect for week-long vacations, weekend or mid-week getaways, writer’s retreats, house-hunting visits, and temporary lodging for relocated executives.

We look forward to continuing to share our cozy and comfortable cottage with guests from around the world.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any comments or questions.

A very warm greeting awaits all who visit Cavalier Cottage.

MORE THAN 2…

~ Choice of two 39'x 80' Japanese futon mattresses or an Intex Queen Size airbed with air-filled base, both very comfortable.

~ Children 12 and under stay for free

~ 10% discount to military personnel and senior citizens

~ Payment for a reservation deposit is made via credit card on the Cottage's website via its PayPal account. The balance is due upon arrival either by check or cash.

About patricia butterfield

I have lived in the Pioneer Valley for the past 15 years. Before embarking on this semi-retired passage of my life, I owned and managed a private career school for cosmetology and esthetics (skin care) education and opened the first full service day spa, both Northampton-based. I have been involved in animal rights and animal welfare for many years.

Since moving to the Charlemont-Shelburne Falls area, I’ve become acquainted with Leslie and Ed Grinnell, owners of Eddie’s Wheels . Leslie and Ed custom design wheelchairs for disabled companion animals and provide them and their care givers valuable guidance and support. I volunteer at Eddie’s Wheels and have the privilege and opportunity to meet many wonderful dogs and cats who seek wheelchair assistance to regain mobility.

Leslie provided me with the inspiration to launch Cavalier Cottage as a place where her out of town clients, both 2 and 4-legged, could spend a night after a fitting for a wheelchair.

In addition, I am a major animal person and there are not very many lodgings in the area that permit pets. And it's always a delight to meet new and interesting people.

After living in NYC and working for the airline industry when I was single and young and then married for a 15 year stint, this venture now provides me much pleasure as I strive to grow Cavalier Cottage!

I look forward to warmly welcoming you to Cavalier Cottage with or without your companion animals.

Why patricia butterfield chose Greater Springfield, Franklin County, Mohawk Trail

This area of Western Massachusetts offers great tranquility, natural beauty, many diverse outdoor, educational and cultural activities.

The people of West County are extraordinarily kind and caring.

What makes this apartment unique

I share space at Cavalier Cottage with my marvellous rescued dogs and cats. Neighbors and other community members have made me feel very welcome and it just feels so right. I enjoy and value the peace and beauty this area provides me.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Cavalier Cottage offers an immaculate, spotless, fully-equipped two-room “home base” for you and your pet(s). A little way up a quiet country road (directly off, and a straight line from, Rte. 2); a gracious, welcoming owner to greet you and make wonderful scones/biscuits for you every morning; a marvelous queen bed; full roomy kitchen with all the amenities. Though it may be a cliché to say so, we were reluctant to return to our “real life” when our stay ended. Highest possible recommendation.

She loves four legged guests!

  • 4 of 5

We wanted to see the Berkshires area and chose Shelburne Falls for a couple of days. Having a Cavalier, I was drawn to Patricia's home. The accommodations were roomy and in a very quiet location with a road that was virtually empty allowing safe walks. The town was close by with all the comforts. Patricia was a gracious host who provided a great start to the day with scones and a great love for the 4 legged guest. Thumbs up!

Perfect dog vacation

  • 5 of 5

I was playing for a nearby festival and was so pleased to find Cavalier Cottage. It can be very hard to find a pet-friendly, affordable, quiet place that will rent for a short 2 night stay on a holiday weekend, much less one in such a beautiful, idyllic location. Bonus, there is ample breakfast provided and cruelty free cleaning products. My dogs loved being able to lounge on the couch, the couch being covered with a supplied cover to keep things nice. It's really a lovely place and Patricia is a lovely person.

A charming, pet-friendly treasure

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I needed pet-friendly accomodations near Shelburne Falls, MA because we had a morning appointment with Eddie's Wheels for Pets. The staff at Eddie's told us about Cavalier Cottage. Humans and dogs alike were greeted by the owner upon arrival who made sure we were well aware of the layout and amenities of the cottage and, was happy to offer suggestions for dining and area attractions. A photo of our dogs was taken to add to the 4-legged guest section of the website. In the morning, we were treated to warm scones with a variety of jams and fresh orange juice. Although our stay was brief, I would definitely stay again if back in the area, and would recommend to others. The charm of the cottage and graciousness of the owner far exceed the generic experience of staying at a chain hotel.

Awesome place to stay with your pup.

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is clean, neat, cozy and well equipped. We stayed three nights here while waiting to move into our new home. Pat was kind and helpful and we loved the peaceful setting. We were close to all amenities while being in a peaceful setting. We loved the fully set up kitchen so we were able to cook as well. Ellie loved the setting as well and was given nice walks and play time with one of Pats cavaliers. We would highly recommend this cottage.

Best canine friendly lodging!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is a perfect getaway, no matter the season. The cottage comes equipped with cooking materials, lots of blankets, games, and just about anything you could need. Situated on a quiet country lane, peace and relaxation is easy to achieve.

Most importantly, however, is the welcoming our corgi received from Pat the owner. She loves dogs and the lodging definitely caters to your canine best friend. We had such a great time, we plan to go back in the summer and take advantage of summer activities in the area.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was lovely. Its spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. Its on a very quiet country road. Extremely welcoming of my 100 pound pup. There are two rooms a large living area with a king size bed and large sitting area and a large kitchen. Patricia was gracious and welcoming. Truly worth the trip.
