Lots of room for our family of four. Hot Pot was amazing and we even saw the northern lights one night. Location was great - about 30 min drive from Akureyri in a quaint little town right on the water. Beautiful. A couple of small quibbles - the beds are very firm, the wi-fi in the living room is dreadful so you cannot stream or cast onto the tv, the espresso maker is finicky, and make sure to read up on the trash procedures ahead of time - it’s a distance to the main bins. But like I said - very small issues for an overall wonderful stay in a great house. We’d stay here again in a heartbeat.
This host has a modern place with everything you need. Including a coffee pot and microwave. The hot tub was warmer than the previous place we stayed which was nice. Only things I’d add is ice cube trays. Location was great and view amazing.
Beautiful location overlooking Eyjafjorour, our stay was made even more amazing watching the Whales from the dining room window. Property was clean and warm, a little too warm for us. Had an amazing time plenty to see and do
We were so pleased with our time at Vallholt! Our family of 5 enjoyed the layout of the house, the view, and the quiet town. We were able to drive and explore the surrounding areas with ease and then soak in the hot tub after a day of exploring. I could not imagine a more perfect place to stay.
Everything was wonderful… very clean, all the dishes we needed to cook in, plenty of room, even had a drying rack for items we didn’t want to dry all the way.. many sights to see within 1.5 hours driving, making it our perfect base to explore the north..

A super place with a very responsive remote host. The house is big and extremely well-equipped incl. outdoor hot tub (view over the lake) and top-quality kitchen with the same view over the lake while cooking and eating. A little way (30 mins) from the regular Ring Road but a lovely village and area to explore, including some or all of the Arctic Way. For whale-watching it’s close to Husavik for and even closer to Hauganes, which can be seen from the house and exceeded all expectations for us. (We even saw the whale activity across the water the next day once we knew where to look … take binoculars!). Thank you Thomas!
Myself and a group of friends made the trip to Grenivik for Spring Break, and had a wonderful time in town thanks to the Vrbo provided by Thomas. Everything from details about amenities in the house to fun things to do around town were provided by the host, making this experience absolutely perfect for myself and my friends.
Honestly, this place is a remarkable gem, in an adorable town, set in an unforgettable region of Iceland.
We LOVED every second here and coming back to this house after a day of exploring felt calming.
Bring groceries, have a seat in the hot pot, enjoy the view from a bunk bed, stay a while!!!
We really enjoyed this stay. The house was clean and well equipped. There was lots of room for all five of us - very spacious!
We truly enjoyed the view from the family room. We found the location handy to explore parts of northern Iceland. Thank you
It is a grate Place for People they love Snow.
Very small Village, but everything you need. Hope it will not change if the new Hotel opens next season.
Very nice house in a great location, with everything you need
We enjoyed the very spacious house for 9 days, we didn't miss anything. Great communication with the landlord, answers to questions were always very quick. We can only recommend it.
A wonderful stay in Grenivik, spacious and comfortable house. Loved to sit in the backyard and watch the water. Such a beautiful view! Convenient to Akureyri with a short scenic drive. Was a great proprty and a great relaxing stay. Thanks!
The house is beautiful and comfortable. It was so nice to have a washer and dryer to do laundry.
We also enjoyed using the Hot Pot at the end of long days hiking.
The village is small and quiet.
Plan ahead form groceries and supplies as Akureyri is about a 30 minute drive for groceries…..
The setting could not have been more gorgeous at this house, set along a lovely fjord with crystal blue ocean waters. We spent hours relaxing in the Icelandic "hot pot" (hot tub) in the rear of the property, soaking muscles and clearing our minds. (Unfortunately we were not as lucky as other reviewers and did not see any whales, but we did spot a seal near the local harbor.)The house was clean and spacious, easily big enough for 4-5 people. Owner Thomas emailed us a very helpful, 30-page guide to the house and surrounding region, with advice on local attractions. If you like to kayak, I'd recommend checking out Cape Tours, which is based a block away, and whale-watching in Hauganes, directly across the harbor.Grenivik is a bit out of the way. It's about a half-hour's drive from Akureyri and adds that much more time to trips to Lake Myvatn, Dettifoss, Husavik. etc. But to us, it was worth it to enjoy the beauty and isolation. We loved our stay.
I would only suggest that there be a house number on the building , slightly confusing and moving the stereo in the back dresser and putting a small sofa against the railing! Give an area to relax in.
It was a nice house, very spacious. The view over the bay was beautiful. Everything you need was available. Communication with the owner was excellent and there was very good and useful documentation. There was a construction site next to the house, but because we started early every day that was no problem.
House was clean and very spacious. Plenty of heat and hot water.
Being right on the water was wonderful. We used the hot tub almost every night. Our first night there, a pod of whales swam by while we were in the hot tub.
Grenivik is a lovely location, a quiet town about half an hour from the city and all its amenities. It was a great launching point for all the local attractions.
The hosts were super helpful. We left an important bag behind with laptop, passports, medication, etc. and they mailed it back to the States for us.
Property has a rather unusual layout with the lounge in the basement. This means the best views are always from the Kitchen on the first floor. The only downside is there is a new property being built next door. This was not a problem during our stay but as it grows I suspect the noise will become increasingly intrusive during the day.
Really great place to use as a vase to explore North Iceland , both locally and a bit more widely.
House was everything we hoped for.
My daughter spotted whales out in the bay but declined to tell anyone till the next day! So remind your group to tell everyone if they spot one!
If you are really tall (I’m 200cm) mind your head on he beam downstairs!
