This catamaran has a great charter pedigree and is a former Cruising World Boat-of-the-year. She features three lavish queen-sized cabins each with ensuite heads and showers, and electric toilets. All the cabins are air conditioned. The saloon has CD and Ipod connection, DVD and TV as well as plenty of games. Her tender is a 12-foot rib with an engine powerful enough to pull you or your guests around the bay. She also has a two-seater kayak, stand up paddle board and noodles and floaters for the less active guests. She has enough snorkels and fins for everybody and for the more adventurous Scuba diving and windsurfing can always be arranged.

Some of the best diving in the world is in the BVI, which includes the wreck of the RMS Rhone, which featured in the movie “The Deep”.

There is a wide choice of walks and National Parks to be explored. there are numerous attractive beach bars and restaurants around the Islands.

Whether you are looking for a fully crewed, all inclusive vacation with gourmet meals and drinks provided, or a Captain Only vacation that allows you take over in the galley or dine shore, we guarantee our Leopard will be the perfect choice for you.

Bambi is a gourmet chef with more than 20 years experience. In the all inclusive and half board option she will create delicious daily menus for you from your detailed preference sheet which we receive before your arrival.

Your Crews

Geoff and Bambi as seen in "Owner Story" will be your crew from January to Mid April.

Theo and Augusta van Rensburg will be your crew from mid April to season end in mid July.

Theo and Augusta van Rensburg. ( Pic in photo gallery)

We, Theo and Augusta van Rensburg, are South Africans (and Namibians!) who love traveling (either by sea, overland with our 4x4r, or by bicycle). Theo was a financial advisor at an Insurance Company, and also had a career as a Solar Engineer. He holds a Yachtmaster Ocean ticket and we have more than 15 000 sea miles under our belts. Augusta is a registered nurse, and also loves cooking and entertaining.

We were married in 1998 and shortly after our 1st anniversary were invited to a marriage retreat, where of course, the dream of ‘going sailing’ was born. Just 18month later, the boat was bought, the house was packed and off we went! We crossed the Atlantic Ocean on our sailboat “Plumbob”, a 30 ft monohull. After 6 months of cruising, we met Geoff and Bambi in Brazil, while sailing on their Catamaran “Alexis”. A fond friendship developed quickly and as it happens with sailing friends, sailed off in different directions.

We spent time in Trinidad, Tobago, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico, Bahamas and then ended in Florida where we fell in love with the American lifestyle, and Theo completed his Yachtmaster Ocean course. We then had the opportunity to Captain and chef/hostess aboard a 70’ Azimut motor yacht. Our yearning for the islands took us back to manage Eustatia Island for American owners in the British Virgin Islands. There we met up again with Geoff and Bambi who were chartering Cool Runnings, and we spent the next 7 wonderful years on Eustatia in the North Sound. It was our home away from home. We made wonderful friends and gained extensive knowledge of life in the Virgins, the sea, the islands and the anchorages.

When the island was sold, we moved on and used the chance to cycle from Ushuaia in Argentina, to Santiago, de Chile. We returned back to South Africa in 2013 and for the next 2 years, worked on establishing a cheetah conservation farm, bordering the Namib Desert in Namibia. Once the project was completed, we returned back to our home base in Cape Town, where we once again got back on our touring bikes and took off on an extended trip that will take us right through South Africa and Namibia. While temporarily back in Cape Town, we met up once again with Geoff and Bambi during their off season break, and we all discussed the possibility of relieve crew duties during the charter season. Since we really miss life in the Islands we decided to join Cool Runnings as crew from the 2016 season and are looking forward and extremely excited to be returning once again to the blue waters of the Caribbean and sharing the beautiful islands with you on your sailing adventure.

About Geoff and Bambi Alexander

Geoff and Bambi were born in Cape Town, South Africa. Geoff has a Building Science degree from University of Cape Town and had his own building company for 25 years. I started out as a nurse and after the children were born entered the food arena, I had a catering company for 15 years. We married in our early 30's and share 5 children, at this stage we have three lovely granddaughters.

Geoff has always been into boats and loved dinghy sailing, once we were married he received a brochure in the post advertising a flotilla sailing holiday in Greece. After a quick deck hand sailing course we flew off to Greece and experienced our first keel boat sailing experience. We were hooked and before long had a small boat of our own. Once all their children had completed their education, we set off across the Atlantic in our 34 foot monohull called Alexis, we sold her in America after being seduced by the Catamaran. We built our second boat Alexis 2 a 38 foot catamaran in Cape Town and sailed her once again across the Atlantic to the Virgin Islands where we chartered for 5 happy years. The cruising bug bit, and we decided to sail across the Pacific to Australia, enjoy the exotic South Pacific islands and then hang up our sailing shoes and return home to be the best Grandparents ever. The trip was a dream come true, we wallowed in wonderful adventures and eventually sold Alexis 2 in Sydney.

Back in Cape Town with the family we enjoyed fun times and did indeed become excellent Grandparents. But.... the inevitable but.... we missed the life on the water, the wind, the sea and the freedom and fun of sailing, we missed the interaction of meeting new people and finally decided to share the time between home and chartering. We purchased the beautiful Cool Runnings and returned to chartering. This is where you will find us now we charter in the Virgin Islands from November to July. We invite you to join us, we will sail you to exquisite islands and stunning anchorages!

Geoff and Bambi Alexander purchased this yacht in 2011

Why Geoff and Bambi Alexander chose Road Town

Why the Virgin Islands? Well, they are simply made for sailing. They are set like a string of jewels sparkling in the sunshine in safe protected waters. The yacht Cool Runnings acts much like a turtle shell, carrying us and our guests to safe anchorages, a different island, beach or Cay every day. (without having to pack luggage and call taxis!) So very comfortable and when the wind perks up there is some exhilerating sailing !

The beaches are pristine, our favourite being Anegada. (check out Cool Runnings Charter Yacht, our Face Book page and our article on the beautiful Anegada)

Snorkeling and diving is an absolute delight in warm crystal clear waters where inquisitive fish are so friendly they escourt you while you snorkel!

There is a good bit of history too concerning Pirates of old and if Robert Louis Stevenson could be inspired to write the classic Treasure Island while on Norman Island then just imagine how intoxicating the Islands can be!

We love the laid back (lets live today) atmosphere and have experienced and also seen how theraputic this can be for our guests, who usually only have a week with us but are so revived and envigorated almost as if they have had months of holiday. So far, we have not had one person who would not return in a flash!!

What makes this yacht unique

We have mentioned above the unique convenience of a yacht, comparing it to a turtle shell, this aspect can not be over emphasized. Imagine visiting these islands, there are 40 of them and having to pack up your belongings everytime you moved on. This would either be highly irritating or you would opt for remaining in one or two places. The yacht affords you a one time unpack session and then a restful vacation. Everything is brought to your doorstep and yet you keep moving. At the same time you have the benefit of walking, touring or exploring the places you get to by dinghy or if you're not feeling so energetic then just fall into the warm velvet water and float watching the palm trees ashore gently blow in the breeze.

Add to this the very best gourmet meals, cocktails and drinks if should so choose without having to dress and go out.

Before ever considering chartering our yacht this is what captured us, the freedom and ease of travel with out baggage!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Bambi and Geoff,

Thank you once again for a fabulous week in the BVI’s ! Brian and I

were confident our family members would enjoy this vacation as much as we did our first time. But it was great to witness their amazement and pleasure with your exceptional hosting and execution. We enjoyed seeing familiar sights as well as experiencing new islands and snorkeling spots. Geoff is the BEST Captain, bar tender, dinghy driver and sous chef ever.

Words cannot describe Bambi’s incredible cooking, presentation and overall caretaking. The only concern we have is that wae are not spoiled, and all future vacations elsewhere will pale in comparison! We are truly thankful and hope to see you again in the future.

Great family trip

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and our two teenage children had a great vacation aboard Cool Runnings in March. Theo and Augusts are two extraordinary people - they have a very adventurous spirit and they made our vacation easy from start to finish. The boat is beautiful and kept very clean. The food was delicious, and they did an excellent job with the detailed provisions list we provided before the charter. Unfortunately, the weather was not perfect for snorkeling, which we will look forward to doing more of on our next trip. I am learning to sail, and Theo was very kind to let me take the helm from time to time and I enjoyed learning about the boat and docking, etc. This was our first time to charter a boat, and we are usually a fairly private family, so we were a little apprehensive about being with strangers on a boat. But Theo and Augusta were so warm and welcoming and allowed us all of the privacy we needed. We loved taking out the paddle board and swimming off the back of the boat. My advice to others taking this charter is to do a good job filling out the provisions list and do not be shy about letting them know what you like and don't like - they really do want to make your vacation a great one, and the more you let them know about you, the better. The tipping at the end seemed awkward to me - again, new to all of this, and it would be nice if there were some more guidance on tipping (i.e. how much, tip then or send in later, etc). I hope we are fortunate enough to sail with them again in the near future.

A Dream Family Christmas Trip

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I along with our three children(ages 16, 13 and 11) spent an amazing week aboard Cool Runnings celebrating Christmas, 20 years of marriage and a blessed life in general. Geoff and Bambi were wonderful. Geoff was so knowledgable about every aspect of sailing/boating and all of the many islands. Bambi was a fantastic chef extraordinaire...every meal was absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. Not only was Bambi an excellent cook...she had tremendous compassion for our three children and made sure everyone was always happy and well taken care of. We now feel very blessed to call Geoff and Bambi our friends and hope to sail with them in the years to come. Cool Runnings yacht is impeccably maintained and stocked with everything you need for a perfect vacation. A week sailing on Cool Runnings is the ultimate trip of a lifetime and one we would highly recommend.

An amazing getaway that is equal parts relaxation and fun!

  • 5 of 5

I was apprehensive about booking this because it was our first time sailing and I have two young kids ages 6 and 8. I was concerned that the accommodations wouldn't offer the kids space to be kids and also considered a variety of "what ifs" that would make your head spin. However, our family appreciates adventure and we don't like to stick to standard vacations and love to try new things. I'm so glad I went for it! This is the way to travel and I will want to do this again as a way to explore island destinations. From the moment we arrived, Theo and Gussie were very accommodating and patient with our kids. They made us feel at home and safe at every moment. We sailed to Leinster Bay, Francis Bar, Cinammon Bay, Cruz Bay and Caneel Bay and each one was paradise. Each morning after coffee and a yummy breakfast prepared by Gussie, Theo would take us ashore in the dingy to explore and play. Each place felt like paradise and we enjoyed swimming, snorkeling, hiking and kayaking the crystal blue waters of St. John. They provided all of the gear down to the cooler filled with refreshments to take ashore. Once back on the boat from our morning adventures we would eat another delicious meal prepared by Gussie. Then it was time to just relax on the front of the boat enjoying the breeze and sun which usually resulted in a nap which was surprising because normally I can't nap! At sunset, the grown ups got a refreshing island cocktail and the kids got to sound the horn or blow the conch shell as another beautiful day turned into another amazing evening of dining and star gazing. The stability of the boat also surprised me. We were prepared with sea bands and Dramamine but did not need it at all. The weather was perfect even though June is considered hurricane seasons. Days were sunny, breezy and in the 80's. We got a couple of light sprinkles that only lasted 5 minutes at a time. The size and accommodations of the boat were just as expected and very well maintained. I would recommend this experience to anyone looking for a true getaway that allows you to disconnect and reconnect with loved ones in a setting that is breathtaking. We even saw a full rainbow about 50' from the boat. Incredible!

An Adventure For the Whole Family!

  • 5 of 5

We spent an amazing week on Cool Runnings with Theo and Augusta... and our 18-month-old boy! We were a little apprehensive at first about how he would do on a yacht, but he absolutely loved it. He really learned to love the water, running on pristine beaches, and shooting the breeze on the trampoline. Seeing the BVI on a yacht is truly a wonderful experience, and Theo and Augusta are excellent hosts. The food was exquisite, and the hospitality is unmatched. I would recommend Cool Runnings to anyone - even the little tykes!

A great Adventure

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from a trip aboard Cool Runnings with friends of ours for our birthdays. I just want to personally thank Theo and Gussie for being the best host and hostess. We felt right at home from the second we stepped onboard. The boat was very clean and spacious and we did not feel on top of each other. Gussie is a fabulous chef and every morning we woke up to the best crunches that I am still dreaming about. Although the last few days we did encounter a bit of rain, we felt very safe and comfortable throughout our journey. Theo and Gussie gave us fabulous suggestions of where to eat and what to do on the islands. I am confident that we have made friends for life and I can't wait to sail again with them. They truly know how to guide you on how to have the best vacation possible no matte what the weather brings.

Car: not necessary

Cruising in the Virgin Islands is like sailing through a treasure trove of beauty. (One, the pirates left behind). A sailing dream of constant warm trade winds, pristine waters, forty perfect islands, cays and hundreds of gorgeous anchorages. Topsides there are lush green hills and mountains, sparkling white sandy beaches, a rollicking history of pirates, treasure and rum, beach bars, restaurants and shopping. Down under there is a world of staggering beauty, coral reefs and a tantalizing colour kaleidoscope of tropical fish. This sounds like a tourist promotion, but there it is, all true, now that you have the picture, a perfect, perfect paradise.
