About Joy or Julia

We purchased this cottage in 2010 and loved it so much that we bought a house two doors down and moved here permanently.

Joy or Julia purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Joy or Julia chose Michigan

We really feel that this is one of the best kept secrets in MI. Lake Huron is amazing providing us with beauty, petosky stones, beach glass, boats, freighters, sunrises, kayaking, standup paddling, snorkeling, sand and sun! Yet, we are conveniently located to shopping, restaurants, casinos, antiquing, etc. Detroit is an hour away which offers a major airport, sporting events and more.

What makes this cottage unique

We are conveniently located near a state park, trails, and cute lake towns like Lexington. The 'Sunrise Side' of Michigan is really it's best kept secret!

A fantastic, quiet getaway

  • 5 of 5

We (family of 4) rented the cabin for a 4 day getaway that was close to home but had an up north feel and this checked all the boxes. I won't reiterate all of the other comments shared by others, but I echo all of the good qualities for the place and the owners. If I had to find any flaws its the amount of newer construction in the area but you tend to forget about it once you've settled in.

We will actually be back in a couple weeks. Thanks for everything Joy.

Relaxing and easy

  • 5 of 5

The owners thought of everything and the house was filled with necessities and felt like home (maybe even nicer :). They were so accommodating and the perfect hosts! Two adults, three kids and a dog enjoyed the kayak and cart filled with beach goodies. We brought our bikes and enjoyed the flat, easy ride to the nearby park. We will definitely return.

Best Kept Secret.....absolutely!

  • 5 of 5

Great cottage, great owners! 3 hockey dads and 3 teenage hockey players could not have had a better place to stay during the Little Caesar's Labor Day Invitational. Owners made us feel truly welcome, and the cottage was immaculate. Great job on your renovations! Looking forward to coming back again.

This was our second year staying at the cottage, and we have already booked for next year!! As always, Joy and Julia are amazing to deal with. The cottage is truly a home away from home, the beach is wonderful for relaxing or rock collecting. The location is fabulous, only a couple miles from Port Huron and all it has to offer for food and shopping.

We had family visit one day and borrowed a long table from Joy, as always was no issue and whatever we needed to make our stay more enjoyable they are there to help. And us from Boston and my Sister and Mother from Florida we literally had our suitcases and nothing else. The cottage is fully stocked and has everything we needed for our visit and more!

This was my sister's first visit and she was as excited to book for next year as we were as she also fell in love with the homey and comfortable feel of our home away from home. The wine and flowers greeting us was so appreciated. Thank you again to Joy and Julia for sharing your little slice of heaven with us. See you next July!!

Perfect Summer days

  • 5 of 5

Joy & Julia are perfect hosts. They make every effort to meet your needs and expectations before, during and after your stay. Beyond their wonderful hospitality they are also very considerate and conscientious about the rental. During our stay there was some unexpected work being done in the neighborhood. When Joy realized this she called me before our stay to let us know and to reassure us that they would work with us to make us that our stay would not be ruined. We had a wonderful week and I would be comfortable recommending this rental to any of my friends.

Lake Huron

This is Thomas Edison's boyhood home. The riverwalk is amazing! It borders the St. Clair river with Canada on the opposite side where a casino awaits any who dare. The annual Port Huron to Mackinac sail boat race is my very favorite wknd. The boats take off opposite our beach and are beautiful! Also the 3rd Sunday in August is the annual Floatdown. This event draws thousands and allows the opportunity to float from the lake to the St. Clair river and beyond. Port Huron and Lexington are both cute towns with quaint shops and restaurants. There are also many festivals, county and art fairs throughout the year. With nearby trails, golf, shopping, swimming, boating etc, etc a good time is just about guaranteed!!
