About Bruce Cantrell

My wife and I were both born and raised in Alabama. My wife in Cullman and myself in the Birmingham area. We are both retired now and live in the Trussville area. We have been married 40 years. We have two beautiful daughters, two awesome son-in-laws and three wonderful grandchildren. We are a close knit family and we get together every Thursday evening for dinner and family time. We have been doing this for 18 years when our oldest daughter started college. Everyone, especially the grandchildren look forward to this special family time. We would highly recommend this to everyone that has the opportunity. Family is everything and this keeps us all very close.

Bruce Cantrell purchased this house in 2002

Why Bruce Cantrell chose Alabama

My wife always wanted a house with a covered porch, real dormers, two bedrooms upstairs and the master bedroom and living area downstairs. When we found this house it fit her dream home perfectly. We are new to VRBO but our home has been in a vacation rental program since we purchased it 14 years ago so we are not new to renting and knowing what makes people happy.

My wife goes beyond expectations in stocking the kitchen. We have had many rentors write in our book that they brought lots of cooking utenstils, etc. only to find they had everything they needed already here.

All of our beds are very comfortable and offer a great nights sleep. All three bedrooms have a tv, dvd and dvr capabilities. Same for the great room. We have many movies on dvd that can be viewed and we have a bookcase full of books to read.

What makes this house unique

This home has a 12' x 28' private pool with a large 25 x 40 sunning deck. The deck was shifted to the east to offer unobstructed views of the Gulf of Mexico. If you have guests with you that don't prefer hours in the sun, they can sit on the covered front porch in the swing, rocking chair or deck chair in the shade and enjoy a book or just enjoy the fantastic scenery. The entire family can enjoy a meal on one of two picnic tables, one on the front porch and one under the house. There is a large enclosed outdoor shower with hot and cold water under the house. We also have a very nice stainless steel park grill for outdoor cooking.

If you enjoy birds, we have a large colony of Purple Martins just to the north of the pool deck. They arrive in March and travel back to South America around the middle of July. They have a beautiful song and eat lots of insects.

One of our favorite things to do is sit in the swing on the front porch or on the pool deck in the mornings, drink coffee and watch the dolphins play in the gulf. It is so peaceful and makes everything seem right with the world.

Great family getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful experience, it exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed having the private pool and ease of access to the beach. We look forward to the possibility of staying at the "Shore Thing" again in the future. Will definitely recommend to friends and family. We found the owners to be accessible and great to work with. Thank you

Beautiful house, beautiful location, awesome weather!

  • 5 of 5

We have been vacationing in Fort Morgan for about 15 years. Shore Thing has the perfect setup...awesome views, and a pool to enjoy when you "tire" of the sand!

In a word...."Perfection "

  • 5 of 5

Our family loves EVERYTHING about "Shore Thing"! The location is away from the crowded "touristy" areas but close enough to all those activities to partake and still have plenty of "beach time". Ocean viewing is always present. The pool is amazing warm salt water that is perfect for adults and kids. The house is a perfect blend of beach and "homey" atmosphere. Kitchen has ALL the needed tools to cook for/serve a family. And, lastly...the owners...Bruce and Frances Cantrell are kind, gracious, efficient, and and sincerely want the best for their guests. Thank you for sharing your treasure with us!

Beautiful and well kept home with a great view of the gulf from the front porch. We loved it!

  • 5 of 5

My siblings and I all rented property in Gulf Shores and Shore Thing was overall the best. The pool, the concrete driveway and under the home less sand brought into the home

The property is just as the pictures show and we enjoyed a great gulf view as we sat on the porch. We had nine staying at the home but we never felt cramped and with pool ( a definite must even with his just feet away) everyone had more options of how they play wanted to spend their day. The only thing grumbling came when we tried to use the sofa bed. It was very uncomfortable but we were able to rearrange the sleeping assignments and everyone got a good night's sleep. We all agreed we had a great vacation in no small part to my good luck in renting this property.

The Shorething is the best place that we have ever stayed ...including Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Panama City! The house is "home away from home!" We loved the covered front porch with a bench swing and rocking chairs! We loved the private pool as well as beach access! Given the fact that we were there when Tropical Storm Cindy came through...with 10 foot waves on the beach....we were still able to enjoy the pool!!! And we felt very safe in the house during the strongest winds! The owners are wonderful!!! They even checked on us during the storm to see if we were OK! We plan to make Shorething our vacation spot next year!!!

A big THANK YOU to Mr. and Mrs. Cantrell!!! You are awesome !!!! And so is Shorething!!
