OUR " ISLAND MILL GETAWAY" is the perfect spot for rest and relaxation and so close to everything the area has to offer.

Our circa 1829 limestone home was originally The Lonsdale Grist Mill. We're on an island in the Salmon River between 2 waterfalls accessible by one lane bridges on and off the island. We're just 2 hours east of Toronto and conveniently located between the Prince Edward County Sandbanks and Wineries and Kingston and The Thousand Islands, conveniently located to all our area has to offer as well as our property offering boating, swimming and cycling all included in your stay. PROVINCIAL PARK PASS IS INCLUDED FOR MINIMUM ONE DAY.

OUR COUNTRY SUITE OFFERS YOU:

A beautiful, second story, self-contained suite with a European inspired vintage decor. Boats and bicycles, abundant wildlife and gardens and all just 6 minutes from the 401 hwy and 12 minutes from Prince Edward County.

ROOM AMENITIES:

You will enjoy a lovely, large, comfortable suite with a self-contained kitchenette which includes a small fridge, microwave, toaster/convection oven, induction hot plate, french press coffee maker, tea, coffee, bottled water, all pots and pans, utensils, etc for light cooking. The suite has a French bedroom set with a queen size bed and a Tempurpedic memory foam mattress with top quality bedding, just perfect for falling asleep to the sound of the waterfalls outside your window. Toiletries, bath robes and towels are provided. The Country Suite has antiques, oak floors, carpeting and hand sewn silk lampshades.

SPRING AND SUMMER AT THE MILL:

You have full access to our patio by the waterfalls, kayaks, a canoe, peddleboat and touring bicycles during the warmer months and a riverside hot tub under the stars all at no extra charge. With waterfront on three sides, you'll likely want to spend some time on the river. Boats are provided from May until Thanksgiving weekend. Barbeque, dine and relax on padded swivel chairs under our covered pergola on the outdoor patio by the river.

Enjoying nature is the main occupation here. Lying under a willow tree beside the waterfalls, paddling up the river, or touring the countryside by bicycle can really eat up a day. You can also enjoy a refreshing swim in the waterfalls. A waiver must be signed prior to using the facilities due to the inherent dangers associated with being near the water.

We live in the very picturesque historic hamlet of Lonsdale which has been the subject of many artists and photographers. The river is part of an historic canoe route and many enthusiasts brave the rapids in May. The river quietens come June for relaxing paddles. It is the river that gives this place it's magical vibe and brings the wildlife in abundance for our pleasure. Great Blue Herons, Song Birds, Eagles, Otters, Beavers, Muskrats, Geese, Ducks, Swans, Turtles, song birds and many others are all happy to call Lonsdale home or stop by to say hi. You never know who is going to drop by next. The grounds are full of flowers and birds and the sound of the waterfalls makes this an ideal spot to just kick back and enjoy.

FREE minimum ONE DAY PROVINCIAL PARKS PASS INCLUDED SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY.

FOOD:

We encourage you to bring your own food and prepare light meals in your private kitchenette, as the closest restaurant is 6 km away and there are no stores in the immediate area. There are three grocery stores in Napanee , a 20 minute drive east or Belleville, a 25 minute drive west or in Picton, 30 minutes south. You may also use the outdoor barbeque. There are many nice restaurants and eateries within Napanee, Prince Edward and Belleville/Kingston areas. Regular and specialty teas, french press coffee, bottled water, milk, cream, sugar and honey are always available in your room. We also provide the little things for cooking that are difficult to transport such as cooking oil and spices. You are welcome to pick fresh herbs and salad greens from our organic vegetable gardens in the summer months. Please feel free to use our main floor freezer and fridge for extra food storage.

WIFI:

There is WiFi available for checking e-mails etc. We do not have access to unlimited internet so streaming and downloading movies is not available, however, there are free movie channels on the television.

FALL AND WINTER AT THE MILL:

WE OFFER A WONDERFUL FALL AND WINTER GETAWAY SPECIAL. BOOK ANY TWO NIGHTS AND YOU CAN STAY A THIRD NIGHT ABSOLUTELY FREE! IF YOU BOOK 4 NIGHTS, THEN YOU RECEIVE AN ADDITIONAL TWO NIGHTS FREE! Our offer runs from Nov. 1, 2016 until April 30, 2017.

Enjoy the outdoor all season hot tub under the stars by the river and waterfall. If the pond is frozen, bring your skates, snowshoes or cross country skis for fun right outside the back door. There are also several nearby cross country ski locations, walking trails, first class performances at Belleville's Empire and Kingston's Grand Theatre and many other seasonal attractions in our area during the cooler months.

LOCATION:

We are located 2 hours east of Toronto just 6 minutes from the 401. Picton is 30 minutes to the south, Kingston is 35 minutes east and Belleville is 25 minutes west. Kingston and The Thousand Islands, Prince Edward County Wineries and it's many Fine Restaurants and Sandbanks Provincial Park are all in a day's outing.

About Suzie Gutzman

We are a recently retired couple who love sharing our unique property with others.

Suzie Gutzman purchased this mill in 1986

Why Suzie Gutzman chose Ontario

We bought this property when we were young and naiive. It has taken over years and the journey, like all journeys has been difficult at times but very rewarding. The Lonsdale Mill has reached a potential even we did not believe possible in the beginning. The beautiful Salmon River with the abundance of wildlife and the lulling of the waterfalls is what keeps us here. Even though we're not located anywhere in particular, we're so close to everything. A short drive in 4 directions takes us to many towns and cities. We just can't imagine ourselves anywhere else.

What makes this mill unique

Opportunity to stay in an historic mill on an island.

Three types of watercraft and touring bicycles for your enjoyment at no extra charge.

Outdoor, all season hot tub under the stars.

Swimming in the waterfalls.

Dining, reading and relaxing riverside.

Great opportunities for viewing birds and wildlife, such as otters, beavers, turtles, great blue herons and songbirds.

A true getaway experience in a scenic and historic setting.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Truly wonderful, better than expected!

  • 5 of 5

When I first saw reviews from others who stayed at the Mill, I thought, "These reviews are all extremely positive...I hope they are all true!" Now, having just returned from a week-long stay at the Mill, I can honestly say that our holiday there was even better than I had hoped, thanks in large part to the generosity, kindness, and thoughtfulness demonstrated by owners Suzie and Jerry. I don't think there could be a better couple to manage this type of accommodation; they are amazing to watch as they easily work together to make your stay as comfortable and fun as possible while working to maintain the property, and while respecting the privacy of all of their guests.

The Mill itself, home to Suzie and Jerry, is a treasure inside and out. I cannot even begin to imagine the amount of work that went into the renovations and décor. A gorgeous stone building built in the early 1800's, it still maintains many original features while providing guests with up-to-date comforts. Located on a small island, it is surrounded by the Salmon River, which attracts many types of wildlife, including many bird species and a busy beaver, who often visits the willow tree near the peaceful patio. Suzie and Jerry have thought of every little detail to make you feel at home within their home. We kayaked, swam in the river, had bonfires, and strolled along country roads. Suzie and Jerry gave us lots of information about local sites and we popped over to Picton and Kingston when we felt like taking in some shopping and delicious lunches and dinners.

We will definitely be back, and having said that, I am not sure how Suzie and Jerry are going to fit in all of their return guests! My advice is to book early to avoid disappointment!

even more beautiful than the pictures!

I have nothing but good things to say about our 4 night stay at the Mill this week. The property was immaculate, the room itself was so clean and fresh, and both Suzie and Jerry were incredibly helpful and it was obvious that they wanted to do whatever we could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back again! A relaxing retreat to say the least! Thank you

Perfect romantic relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the fabulous Mill for three wonderful relaxing nights. It is a perfect home away from home. There is much to do or nothing to do.. whatever you need. The Country Suite is bright, spacious, clean and very comfortable. Suzie and Jerry thought of everything that you may need, want to have or just look at. They are wonderful hosts. We BBQ’d, sat in the lovely backyard which gave us views of the running falls, the calm river, the swaying trees, the beautiful nature, the extraordinary Mill. Such beauty. All I can say is this place is perfect for a quiet getaway. Picton and Belleville are each about 25 minutes away if you need / want to get into town but really, park your car and enjoy what this lovely Mill has to offer. PS... say hello to Sassy and Kitty :)

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your long weekend with us and that you were able to even get out in the canoe as our first couple this Spring. Meeting you both was a pleasure and having you offer to take care of our little cat while we were gone was indeed a bonus. Thank you again for sharing your positive experience with others and for your appreciation of our Island Mill Getaway.

Paradise

  • 5 of 5

The Mill is a perfect place to relax and unwind. Although it seems to be in the middle of nowhere you are just a short drive from "the County" where you will find wineries and great restaurants. Suzie and Gerry are the perfect hosts and have a very good knowledge of the area.

A True Gem

  • 5 of 5

This oasis was so much better than my wife and I could have imagined. We had the privilege to stay here for 7 peaceful nights during our spring vacation. It was a perfect opportunity to celebrate our anniversary. The mill is immaculate and the " attention to detail " is phenominal.....every day we saw something that we did not see the day before. Jerry and Suzie became our friends on this trip and look forward to visiting with them again. Thank you both for the memories.

We are located in the tiny, picturesque hamlet of Lonsdale. Your suite is in the Mill which was built circa 1829 and was the first building in the area. You can keep yourself very busy here in the summer cycling, walking and boating or by taking day trips to the many wineries, beaches, restaurants and shopping areas in Prince Edward County which is just minutes south of us. Kingston is also just a short 35 minute drive East and the town of Napanee is 19 minutes East where there are major grocery stores and chain restaurants and a pleasant downtown shopping area. The town of Belleville is 25 minutes West and has a nice shopping mall and quite a lot of restaurants and festivals during the summer months. Belleville's Empire Theatre presents world class acts during the year.
