Casa al Frate is your perfect home in Tuscany. So close to the city and yet deep in the countryside, it makes both exploring the region and relaxing at home easy and fun.
Close to Chianti, the Crete and the Montagnola, from here you can as easily go winetasting at our neighbouring wine estate Montechiaro, hop into town for a tour of the Lorenzetti frescoes and a great meal at Boccon di Prete or sightseeing in Pienza. And if you prefer the beach Marina di Alberese, a natural reserve within the Maremma region, is only one hour by car. Plenty of signed hikes all around us, north and south and many good meals to be had in our little hill top towns of San Gusme' or Monteriggioni. If you are interested in relaxing at home and getting immersed in the culture we can easily arrange for italian language instruction, photography workshops or art history mini-courses. Just tell us what your expectations are and we will do our best to make your holiday at Casa al Frate the best way to experience Italy!
I was born and raised in Siena and after studying in Cambridge, UK and living in Prague and Paris and then Florence and Rome for a number of years I came back to the place I started from! This is indeed the most beautiful place I have ever lived in and I love to be able to share my family's property with our visitors.
Casa al Frate was part of my grandparents' property and it is now my responsibility to look after it and make sure it provides the most comfortable place wherefrom to explore Siena and the surroundings
The views of Siena from Casa al Frate are what I most look forward to whenever I come back from a trip abroad. There is nothing as perfect as them. Sipping wine with friends on a balmy night, smelling the grass and the spring flowers while watching the sun as it sets behind the towers of my city... this is what life is about!
We loved this apartment! This is an old family farm, shared with the owner who resides in the other half of the house. Amazing views of Siena and the surrounding area from inside, or outside the apartment. Sitting in the courtyard with a glass of wine, watching the sun set over Siena is breathtaking. Miriam had provided guidelines on travel in the area as well as dining options. Each recommendation exceeded our expectations. Centrally located as well, so we were able to easily travel to Assisi, and Volterra and back again daily.
After the hustle and bustle of Rome, this was a beautiful, serene location to enjoy Tuscany and the rest of Italy.
We are looking forward to returning and spending more time exploring the area and enjoying this lovely house.
The house is quite large and spacious with beautiful views of Siena and hills out each of the large windows. The front half of the house (living room, dining room, kitchen, fireplace) is separated by a door and corridor from the back of the house where the two bedrooms are situated with a very large bathroom in between. Thus each of the bedrooms are insulated from each other and from the common living space. This is great if you have smaller children that need to be put to bed early, or teens that like to stay up late and sleep in late! The house is spotless and nicely decorated with ample sitting space in the living room and very comfortable beds with extra bedding/linen. There's a lovely sitting area outside with a garden and an olive grove - it's Tuscan living at it's best! House is only 5 minutes from grocery store and key amenities - 10 minutes from Siena and all the lovely restaurants. Perfect place to stay for cyclists, as the road is paved with less traffic. We hope to be back for a much longer stay next time! Miriam is such a generous and lovely person and amazing to deal with.
We absolutely loved this apartment! The apartment was exactly what was pictured on the listing. The apartment was also spotless and equipped with many amenities. I was unaware the apartment came with a washer which is a definite plus when traveling with kids. We had not trouble communicating with Miriam. Miriam also recommended nearby towns to visit. We would recommend this apartment and would gladly stay here again!!
The appartment is accurately described, has beautiful views of the countryside and a distant view of the towers of Siena . There is a sitting out space in the garden and
magical fire flies in the olive grove around the house in the evenings. We found it spotlessly clean and has a well equipped kitchen. The sitting room is comfortable and has a
good selection of novels and guide books. A lovely peaceful place to stay.
Lovely, as advertised--what a perfect, peaceful location! A short distance to the city center but situated in the iconic tuscan countryside with direct views of the "skyline" of Siena in the distance. The Spacious apartment is clean and well maintained and comfortably accommodates a family. Space to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The property owner is easy to work with and very helpful with questions and concerns. You can get to city center using a "buxi" (bus/taxi) service that runs a few times during the day, but best to have a car. A most convenient point to depart for all the best this wonderful region of Italy has to offer!
The apartment is charming; clean, bright and spacious - and the garden enormous with a spectacular view across the countryside to Siena on the horizon (you can see the tower and dome of the famous Duomo!). Miriam could not be a more gracious host, always available to help with local information but not intrusive. She obviously has people that come back and stay year after year and I will now be one of them! could not recommend more highly.
Casa al Frate is literally 10 mins away from Siena but also on the edge of both the Chianti region and the Crete Senesi, two of the most spectacular areas of Tuscany. A 20 min drive to Monteriggioni, a 40 min drive to San Gimignano or to Pienza, Montepulciano and Montalcino. Everywhere you will find both 13th century paintings and gorgeous Tuscan wines and cheeses, small romanic churches and golden fields of wheat. Our famous horse race - the Palio - is of course a must-do and I will be happy to provide you with all the insider knowledge you need to understand and appreciate its intricacies!
