You've never seen anything like it. Let's start with the house; an eccentric, artistic, retrofit of a barn and a standing vernacular home connected by a greenhouse/hot tub room that makes you feel cozy and in the middle of the wilderness at the same time. Artisan touches include exquisitely carved beams, functional metal sculpture, a 'wildstyle' fireplace and hearth, a spiral staircase picketed with apple and pear limbs, an outdoor swinging bed (the dream machine), and other details too numerous to mention.
Summer or winter the gathering spot is the huge kitchen/dining/living room area where kids can play, adults cook, and slackers can pull books off the well stocked shelves and ride the plush couches or comfy chairs. In summer you'll move out from there to the giant wrap around decks complete with two hanging beds, for cocktails and river viewing. And in winter you'll retreat the opposite direction to the Fred Flintstone hot tub room for a soak in the unique hot tub.
Upstairs find a sleeping loft furnished with a queen sized bed and two twin beds in an very cozy alcove. Open the window in the summer and let the sound of the river take you down, down down... The master bed and bathroom are also on this floor, both airy and oversized, with a star gazing deck perched off the bedroom. The bath is equipped with a steam room and his and her sinks. There is also a bunk room adjacent to the master but not separated by a door.
Down the back stairs there is a bedroom furnished with a queen sized bed and another bedroom with a queen and a set of bunks. Both are paneled in warm pine finished the old Scandinavian way- sans trim. Beautiful! The downstairs bedrooms share a bath equipped with a 6' claw foot tub accessorized with shower hardware. The floor is limestone pavers which feel great in bare feet- especially in winter when the hydronic heat warms them. Downstairs further is a T.V. room with a large sectional which can serve as two twins and a twin futon couch . On the porch are two hanging beds, the most sought after cribs in the summer. We have slept six (kids) on the king sized bed. It has magnificent views of mountains by day and stars by night. The other bed is a full and has a view of the river!
In Summer slip out the back door to explore the Magical Methow. The property stretches along 1500' of riverfront with many shady nooks to view wildlife from (you will see many many deer, otters, and various other critters here) or write in that journal you've always promised yourself you'd be attending to. And fishermen- seize the day! This stretch of the Methow has a huge population of rainbows, cutthroats, and, in the fall of the year, steelhead. Flies only please! In winter you can traipse along these same byways with only the hush of the river and shush of your skis to accompany you. Birdwatchers also take note- the Methow Conservancy surveyed the property and found the highest concentration of migrating songbirds in the entire valley here.
If your objective is sheer relaxation, wander no further than the paradisical pond, complete with huge decks, a gazebo, and a pure sand beach, that lies to the north of the house.

Hot tub was too hot (all 12 guests agreed). Not very clean but most of us didn’t care (some did).

It's funny because the hot tub temp is like the Slim Jim test: everyone has a different opinion. Almost everybody calls me after they arrive to ask me how to turn the tub up or down. I'm sorry this group didn't, it's an easy fix. I always think my house cleaner does a good job but I would definitely love to hear details. We're always trying to be better.
Such a beautiful property and charming, cool house. We felt very at home. Peter responds promptly to all questions and makes everything so easy. We are coming back next year for sure!
We had an amazing stay with a relatively large group (22 people). The house and grounds are the perfect size for a big gathering; we brought a lot of lawn games and highly enjoyed those on the beautiful front yard. The kitchen was generously stocked and big enough to accommodate cooking and eating for a group our size. The bedroom and bathroom layouts aren't ideal for tons of privacy so if that's super important then it may not be your cup of tea, but we didn't mind and it was great.
We really enjoyed our stay. The house was large and artistic. It has some quirks like needing to oas through bedrooms to move between wings but overall a great stay.
We enjoyed our vacation in Twisp! There is ample space for guests to spend time together in the kitchen, dining and living rooms, as well as nooks to get away for alone time. The view is peaceful and accessible for skiing and town activities.

Mice
Mice, flies, dirty, broken windows and screens, washed some of the bedding before we slept in it, not a safe place for small children, found mice dropping in chairs and food, used joint…
This home made for an incredible for a group of 10 adults, and quite honestly could have fit more as we didn’t even fill all the beds. Tons of space and privacy for everyone. All of the amenities were high quality, and the interior design is truly breathtaking. The pictures honestly don’t do it justice!

Fun in Twisp!
The house was our favorite part of the trip - a family reunion across 3 generations. Lots of space and interesting features including the hot tub and ice skating rink. Our only wish was to know more of the house’s story! Would definitely recommend for larger groups staying in the Twisp/Winthrop area.
Uniquely enjoyable space for our group of twelve. Lots of room for three families to gather to cook, eat, play games, read, sit by the fire, and spread out for rest and quiet time. Amazing views from living spaces and bedrooms. Convenient location between Twisp and Winthrop. Anticipate returning next season!
We had a wonderful time at this property. The photos don't even do the place justice. The design aesthetic is amazing. The house is HUGE but every room is well cared for. We were with a party of 15 people. The kids and grown ups had a great time. Peter was easy to work with and very accommodating. We would definitely recommend this place!
A few families stayed here for a trail run weekend. The house has a huge kitchen, amazing porch with two bed/porch swings, plenty of beds, and an expansive view of the river and valley. We loved every moment. Mostly great for kids, though there's no way to cover the hot tub, which is sunk in the floor in the house -- might make parents of very young kids nervous. Thanks for a great escape this weekend!
Funky house with river views (no easy river access) and a river fed "pond." Second time here and the house and yard looked much cleaner. Appreciated the added screens so windows could be opened in the cooler night time. Pond was cold and perfect for the triple digit temps!
We loved exploring this home which has space and rooms great for families and teens! We opted to hang out fireside overlooking the river and often deer and turkeys. Location allowed easy access to Loup Loup as well as Community Nordic trailheads in Winthrop. Driveway was plowed reasonably promptly after a 4 inch snow though it’s a little steep near the road - needed the AWD for sure.
So A Magical Place By A Magical River is very much that. The fiery sunsets we saw were incredible, deer walked through the property on several occasions, the swimming pond was a welcome oasis from the heat. The kitchen and communal table were perfect for our large group of 14. When the bbq gave out on us on our second day, a replacement bbq was at the house within a couple hours. The entire place has a custom quality that is totally unique. Easy drive to Winthrop or Twisp off the main highway. Recommend!

Quirky, spacious, comfortable, well-stocked and well-used
A large one-off modern, rambling ranch had been added on to the back of a small, old but neat two bedroom house to form a 7(?) bedroom space. Rooms were large and small, new and old, with and without doors and full of interesting, personal and crafty objects. There was a lot of space and it was well-equipped but things looked a bit tired, worn and in need of a good washing. A good place for a bunch of guys like us who aren't too particular about how clean or updated things are but perhaps not for thosse who are more particular about those things.
It was all open when we got there and wasn't too clear how to clean up but we did the best we could. Wifi, water and heat seemed to come and go. Great setting though and location. It worked well enough for us.
I don't like leaving bad reviews, I know they can affect a person's livelihood. We had a terrible experience. We had a 3pm checkin and showed up about 6pm, expecting to roll in and start making dinner. The place was completely unready. None of the laundry was done (bedding for 20 people?) and the place wasn't cleaned. Laundry piled everywhere, stuff on the kitchen counters, garbage not taken out, the hot tub was drained, clutter in many rooms, lots of food in the fridge, ... It would've taken hours to clean up.
The host was not reachable, out of town we found out later. We waited a while but had to move on, the kids were hungry and we needed to find a place to stay that night. Brit, the property manager, showed up just as we were leaving. We couldn't get a consistent story out of her for why the place wasn't ready. She had no way of contacting us (just decided to show up I guess) and I was never given her number as a backup. So the host didn't make adequate backup plans for when he was out of town. For $900 a night, we really expected a lot more.
With the place cleaned up, I can see why a lot of people would like the property. It is a bit quirky, though, and needs some maintenance. No locks on the doors (coming from the big city this was a surprise), a lot of personal photos and belongings, the hot tub was drained (something about a water problem?), and there doesn't seem to be river access (river cut into the bank, you'd need a ladder to get to the water).
My wife and I rented this property to stay with our friends and family after celebrating our marriage. The owner was was responsive and helpful, the property was beautiful and the house was clean. I would recommend this to future guests
